🥝 Community Kiwi Space Station 13 Server (2024 edition) - Space Station 13

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Is making a null Ian an option that seems funny and thematic

First playtest is tomorrow at 6PM ET
Yeah, Null's server had a Slobbermutt mob. If you look through the github you could fish out the code+sprite for that. IIRC it didn't replace Ian; it was actually the captain's dog. Personally I think that's even funnier, particularly given how hostile he apparently was.

gaming is for losers
Yeah will being a nigger is for niggers, didn't think of that did you

Anyways plan is I'm going to hold in lobby for like 5-10 minutes after official start time to wait for some people to accumulate, then I will do a blob event where you all die to the blob (I did adjust balance a bit to give you more of a chance). After that I'll just run a relatively normal rotation for a couple hours so people can learn and stuff if they want

OK that was a decent start (peaked at 9 people) but definitely the biggest problem is a lack of things to do during low pop, and second biggest is improving performance.

I have secret plans for this that I will announce when they are more complete. I think the idea to move the start time to after the MATI stream ends might also be a good idea. Does anyone know how to re-do a poll to vote on that?

Not the most glamorous grand opening, but still good time!
I do think it is a good plan to have open server and pop events. Since the open server with deadpop is probably great for autism experiments.
As for more things to do, I personally like VG code, maybe you can steal some things from them. Might be a pain in the ass so I won't feel bad if you don't.

I've always been interested in SS13 because I love games with autistic as fuck mechanics, but when I gave it a try a few years back, couldn't find any newbie friendly servers (despite several of them advertising as specifically noob friendly).

My big question is how well does it deal with high latency players? I live in a shitty south pacific country that gets at best a ping of about 200ms, specifically to Californian servers, and anywhere else in america I'm looking at 400+. Euro or Asian servers I'd be looking at 600-800.

Is SS13's gameplay slow enough and is its netcode robust enough for me to still have an okay time of it, or is a ping like that going to result in multiple commands layering over each other and me otherwise constantly desyncing?

I messed around in the server for a bit when it first launched. Will try to stop by now and then if others are on especially during the weekend. I suck at SS13 but still really dig it. It's a one-of-a-kind game and I won't forgive janny tranny nolifers for damn near killing it entirely.
