He cheated on his wife with some 19 year old proto-THOT. She agreed to have sex with the famous rich basketball man because of course she would at 19, but then didn't like some specific sex acts he did without asking within the overarching context of the sex she consented to (presaging the current phenomenon of it being literal rape if you don't get 'enthusiastic consent' before each individual thrust) such as being bent over a chair in an uncomfortable way, so claimed rape. She played fast and loose with some relatively minor details with the detective because "she was afraid he wouldn't believe her" otherwise. State arrests Kobe and charges him because even if the victim was lying about some minor stuff to make her case more believable, there's actual physical evidence (non-menstrual blood from the victim, bodily fluids, 3rd party witnesses saying she left his room looking upset) that the crime itself took place. Victim files a civil suit in addition to the state's case. Kobe issues an apology saying that while the sex was consensual, he understands the victims view that she didn't want to do some of the acts therein and he did them anyway without asking. Victim... I guess accepts? because she drops the civil case and then refuses to testify in the criminal case (which could be because she was satisfied with the apology or could be because a criminal case would open her up to perjury charges if she lied about anymore stuff after lying about the other minor stuff already) and that was basically the end of it.
TL;DR dude cheats on his wife with a dramatic teenager who cried rape after getting fucked in an uncomfortable position, lied to cops, filed a suit, was issued an apology, dropped her suit and refused to testify. He's dumb for cucking to a teenager and admitting any wrongdoing when he probably could have beat the charge with ease and for the initial cheating, she's dumb for trumping up awkward, uncomfortable sex into a rape case, lying to detectives and for wasting everyone's time by dismissing her own case and torpedoing the trial.
