Haven't had a chance to play it yet so I can't speak to the context, but SW5 was a fujo game in all but name, so it's possible there's either been a deliberate shift in Koei's strategy to target the fujos (who, to be fair, were not an insignificant part of the hardcore fanbase) or they have a fujo on the writing staff.
Fujoshis are a cornerstone of Koei. The company has a surprising history. It was founded by Yoichi Erikawa (aka Kou Shibusawa) and his wife Keiko (the name Koei is a combination of their names).
I know about Koei's history but there is a degree of separation between Otome content and Fujos. Some might enjoy it but most women into Otomes would want a female protag to use as a vehicle to fantasize about their reverse harem, while most Fujos would rather fantasize about the reverse harem all sodomizing each other.
I’ve always equated them. It’s a thin line, especially when you start getting a company that intentionally hires women designers. They’re going to be unhinged.
