Koei-Tecmo's Warriors Series - DON'T PURSUE LU BU

Never played any of the Rottk games. Maybe a should look into them at some point.
I haven't played any RotTK games besides VIII but they're the sister series to the Nobunaga's Ambition games which I enjoy a lot. Every game in the series is much different from the predecessor in both focus and mechanics and in some cases the changes are so drastic that there's literally zero carryover of skill from one game to the other. There's also a lot of crossover between the two series, as in I've noticed that if a RotTK and Nobunaga's Ambition came out around the same time, then they're very similar when it comes to gameplay.

For Nobunaga's Ambition I personally recommend Iron Triangle and Sphere of Influence. For SoI there's also the Ascension standalone expansion, which adds playing as a vassal or retainer and a few new start dates focusing on Sanada Yukimura. Ascension also adds some other new things like better sieges but it also has several drawbacks, like if you play as a retainer your daimyo always fast tracks you into better positions no matter how hard you work for it or how good your stats are, and then afterwards it feels like it wants to force you to betray your daimyo all the fucking time once you grow influential enough.

Oh man, Musou. I have a fondness for the series but I will admit I started with Orochi 3, then played DW 7 and 8 (I borrowed Xttene Legends and did the stupid mistake, yes) then empires 7, then finally Definitive Edition of 8 so I have an extreme fondness for DW 7 and 8. Of Samurai Warriors, I really wanna play the earlier games even if it means losing the good Oichi (I hate that SW5 ruined her and turned her into a stupid brat again) but my experience with the series is Empires and 4=II because of Tokosatsu Naomasa. I could do without the objective system.

Also wtf is up with SW4s music? Anegawa sounds like I'm about to hit the Asakura nightclub and not slaughter the Azai.

Also they ruined the Nagashino theme. The one from the first game is the very best and really captures a dreary, oppressive atmosphere, especially for the Takeda. But 4 is just more weird nightclub shit.

Think I played their Hokuto No Ken games too once.

I got Orochis 4 but I'm not too hot on that one. I'm not touching DW9 or SW5.

I am curious about DWO but I am also autistic and sceptical because I'd like to play as Zhou Tai (I main him whenever I can) and not some self insert who appearantly dates everyone or something (hyperbole but you get the point)

But I can look past my biases maybe if the story is good and the gameplay is fun though I might be getting some Soulslike fatigue because of many hours put into Bloodborne and Elden Ring.

Actually i should get my hands on the older DW games too.

Which one of the Musou games has the most depth and best RPG systems?

Maybe even a satisfying endgame

I loved Samurai Warriors 5 but was disappointed when I maxed out the weapons and there were only the secret ones to unlock but since I one shotted everyone there was no real point to get them tbh

DW2 was the first PS2 game I ever owned (before I even had a PS2), and I have extremely fond memories of playing DW3 and 4 with my brother, who almost got beheaded for using the family printer to print out the entire GameFAQs guides so we'd know how to unlock all the secret weapons.

Yeah SW4 OST has this weird whiplash where there's both tracks/remixes that are absolute peak (like Siege of Osaka or Conquest of Shikoku) and some really sound out of place because it's club music, a lot of the tracks that play for the side that historically won the battle are especially like this. Then there's the track for the Battle of Yamazaki which sounds very sombre despite the fact that you can only play it as the winning Toyotomi side.

I haven't been keeping up to date with all the games, but recently I picked up SW 4-II and it kinda sucks. Everything feels unpolished, especially the UI. The levels are short and they've went full in with the objective system, interrupting your gameplay constantly. Also all voice lines are exclusively gook with subtitles. I can't believe they charge nearly $60 for this shit.
Are all modern Koei Warriors games ass or did I just get scammed by the naming? All their Steam releases seem heavily overpriced for a flashy hack-and-slash with little gameplay depth.

I remember PS2-era releases having more meat to the levels and a more paced progression. By the time it got boring you already played through all the campaigns and saw most of the content. Maybe I'm just remembering it as better than it was :(
You got scammed in 4-II in particular since that was the supposed expansion pack for base sw4 but the lawsuit happened so they can't do that, being led to getting this cheap final product. They kinda made a better expansion which was SoS but nowadays you can now base SW4 in pc with all its dlc included.

Honestly the RPG element always kinda sucked. Some games you can go through without paying much attention to it (like the original Warriors Orochi). Others, it's got diminishing returns unless you're really masochistic.

I think it's mostly due to the difficulty scaling sucking ass. You can choose between Normal, Easy and Gook. On Normal you only play the first couple of levels while you're still building your moveset and figuring out the weapon/character systems. Hard is for the latter part of the game. And Ultra Nightmare Armageddon is for when you've basically maxed out your save file. Maybe that's just my bias, but I don't really enjoy grinding the same levels over and over on a difficulty where you can get stunlocked by every enemy in the level.

The weapon and stat system doesn't really change how you play the game, i.e. by offering multiple play styles per character. It's just there to buff your existing character; but then you sort of get in this awkward spot between being too OP on your current difficulty but far too squishy on the next one you just have to ride out.

Man, I just remembered that Warriors All Stars exist. What a....weird game that was. Also cemented my increasing dislike for Naotora Ii. Fuck that ho.

If anything, it introduced me to the Deception series, which is really obscure but a neat little series if not a little droning.

Dragon Quest Heroes II is what you are looking for there.

Went back to DW8 and had no idea I put so much stock into local bitch boy of Jin Zhuge Dan Zhong Hui. I got him maxed out. He is by far my highest leveled character. Lvl 98 because I've wasted so much time in Ambition Mode.

I sort of dread going through Shu hypothetical route given how much the games and their source material, the lovely fanfic known as RoTK loves Shu - baby tossing not withstanding,

So for now, I'm just doing trial and error to unlock the hypothetical route for Jin. Battle of Xuchang is giving me gray hair.

You have to have unlocked all the stars in the previous stages, then when you talk to the guy to start the stage they're will be a second person with a different colored arrow over his head. Pick him and the stage will run where Sima Shi can't die

There's nothing you can do to get the stars except play the version of the stage where shi lives.

Seems they gonna remaster DW3. Doubt they gonna keep the goofy voice acting.

DWO is also getting more content. they seems to hint that you get to join the Yellow Turbans this time
It's more like a remake since they're using UE5 as it's engine when compared to origins which used their in-house Katana engine. Expect fps drops the ass. Hope they're keeping the OG dub.

Just looked up the lawsuit and wtf capcom? Thats evil. how tf else u suppose to unlock characters? Are they saying that if you have xyz data from a previous game you can't get things from it in next game? (Bayonetta 3 got you her guns from the first two if you had the save data for example)

The Nintendo Switch Pokémon games also have bonuses if you have save data from previous games, since the saves are now stored on the console itself.

And another stupid instance of a Japanese company patenting a game mechanic is Bandai Namco (I think) patenting minigames during loading screens.

They say on the ps site that if you watch the trailer you see something related to something recent
Origins? I see a scarf? Its after the title at the end

I got Spirit of Sanada and Warriors All Stars. I've heard very good things about Sanada. Hope Okuni, Noh, Motonari, Motochika, Koshosho, Kai, Hanbei, etc show up and can be interacted with.

All Stars has Atelier characters and some gambler girl im dying. And a cat Nobunaga Oda?!

As an aside am I the only one who adores the glossary and encyclopedia some of the games have? Its fun reading about the different characters and their historical records.

Oh and best team in WO3? Noh, Motochika Chokosabe, and Zhang Jiao. I'm serious. They have the most broken attacks its amazing. Use them. Seriously.
