Those protestors spouting nonsensical slogans threatening to burn their local precinct and stores down over a court case that happened on the other side of the country is something straight out of the Middle Ages. When European villagers got news that Muslims burned down a church in Jerusalem or whatever, they'd go apeshit and beat the local Jews or Gypsies. It didn't matter if they even understood that the two were completely unrelated, it was just a way to vent by attacking a socially-acceptable target.

The important difference is that back then the elites were sometimes concerned enough to condemn the violence. It's a bit disheartening that our modern ruling class seems to have less moral fortitude and empathy than people who beat eachother with swords for fun.

The comments make me realize that average Americans knew what was up and knew he was innocent.

Youtube probably is a far better gauge of actual popular opinion than social media. Not a good one, mind you, just comparatively better. Way more people watch videos than use Twitter, and it's not as easy to self-segregate on yt as on Facebook. The relative anonymity and lack of ratios probably makes it easier for people to be honest.

The average commenter is still a moron, but I'm more inclined to view them as human than I am with the copium addict lunatics that seem to make up 90% of Twitter's userbase.
