Because she's Atlas' goddaughter if I remember right. So it's an extension of the Atlas loyalty.
He also still clearly cares about Victor and presumably Mitzi but likely all because of their connection to Atlas. At least that's how I've been interpreting it.
He's very loyal to those whom he feels he owes a debt to but doesn't really give a fuck about anyone else.

I just don't see him as a serial killer type. A psychopath maybe, but he isn't killing for the thrill of it. He's only doing it because he's being paid and has an aptitude for it.

Perhaps I used the wrong term. From what I can see the creators say Mordecai is very much a sociopath.
Which tracks as he exhibits many sociopathpathic traits in the comic so far including side content.
