(re: xitter screenshots above, in case you don't recognize the name, Andreas Kling is the project founder and main developer of the Ladybird Browser, he's the guy you see in the Ladybird Browser update videos)

I've said it before but Andreas Kling genuinely seems like the nicest guy in FOSS. I have nothing but good things to say about him.

Good. I've been donating to show support and I desperately want competition in the browser market, since there is practically none anymore. Was worried that the dude would turn out to be a fag but so far that doesn't seem to be the case. I genuinely hope this succeeds for him and all of us.

im willing to try this eventually but MAN will it be hard. Im entrenched in Firefox since what 2004 and netscape before that.. ive been browsing using the "same" engine since like IE3 or so....

The plug in ecosystem HAS to be there, and early. The launch of this browser teeters on users like me and you. Techies. If a mate sees it and you say "yeah its decent but..." they won't try it, and those who don't even ask will be harder.

Despite all the google and MS shit etc getting my mum off chrome is gonna be a complete shit show and ladybird have basically 1 chance w the public.

I wish so fking bad they'd add manifest v2. Idc if some of the functionality is built in - they need full fat ublock, youtube adblock and sponsor block, the big guns like proton etc, id love if they had a Firefox sync that was even easier to self host, so do many bits people wont live without...

While many noobs may not even know how to launch word, we've all set up their browsers w the features we know they'll like, adblock, etc. Your nan, your aunt and your mate Gary might think his operating system IS (firefox/chrome/ew edge/brave etc). They are not gonna wait 24mo for ladybird to mature into these features. They don't care about the mission enough and they'll hate you, their techy, for hindering them.

I like the project but they have one chance to not fumble the ball. Im sure they're working their arses off.

I should try a dev build soon.

I have tried to be optimistic about Ladybird but after a while I have reached the point of not caring very much, if it works I'll probably use it over Brave but Ladybird doesn't really solve anything about the web browser problem for me and the only true solution to that is to dismantle the w3c, a very large codebase developed by different people doesn't solve the very large codebase problem, especially for how basic 95% of what people use browsers for really is.

As a related note as to why I also have very little faith about this working out long term, this screenshot should explain it.

I really wonder why nobody has ever learned from the countless failures of non profit software organisations, I don't know how they formed this in 2024 either (along with plans for more board members !!), it's just incredibly naive optimism and walking into the same rake for the 500th time as the lead of the project gets ousted and everything crumbles. I feel like there's so many people that are just hopelessly idealistic to the point of never being able to accomplish what they want because they're failing to understand how hostile the world can be and how easy most people crack under pressure.

Not trying to be hostile to anyone in here who's hopeful for it, I would like to be proven wrong but I feel like this will get a couple of years into a full release then people on the board do a hostile takeover and we go back to square one.

Cool idea in general, the world of browsers these days is far too incestuous and gay. But the "Windows users are so mad we're not developing for them" attitude isn't going to win any extra friends and supporters. Yes Windows and Microsoft are shit, but guess what, the general population aren't firing up Linux on their personal and work computers.

So I assume this browser will block any farms addresses as they're still an imminent threat to human life? And of course report any farmers dumb enough to log in with this? I'm sympathetic to there being no good browsers but you would need to have profound mental retardation to use this.
