I've been lurking the Multimedia board and haven't seen much of a Larry David thread, so I was wondering, what are your thoughts on him?

Personally, he's probably the most influential sitcom writers of all time, he is genuinely really funny and he wrote some of the most edgiest syndicated episodes of any sitcom of all time.

Seinfeld

Normally, there would be a background on the show, but I'll give a brief description. Seinfeld, a show made back in the very late 80s and ended in the late 90s, is still one of the most quotable shows and memes of all time. Larry co-created the show with Jerry Seinfeld, and wrote some of the most controversial and influential episodes in syndicated TV. Quotes include: "There was shrinkage," "NO SOUP FOR YOU!," and "I'm out of the contest." It's famously known that George Costanza is based on Larry David and Kramer is based on his friend Kenny Kramer. Larry cameoed as Franks Lawyer and was the original voice for Newman.

Larry David wrote some the greatest episodes of Seinfeld of all time
The Contest - Elaine, George, Kramer, and Jerry bet on who wouldn't jack it the longest
The Sniffing Accountant - Kramer and Jerry investigate Jerry's accountant only for Kramer to take a picture of him while he was shitting
The Stand In - Mickey (a midget) was heightening to avoid losing his job as a stand in, only for everyone to find out later
The Invitations - George buys cheap envelopes that kills his fiancé
The Dinner Party - The 4 try to go to a dinner party and shenanigans ensue
The Finale - The series finale where they all end up in jail

It's well known that Seinfeld is one of the most influential shows of all time, inspiring likes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Arrested Development

If you're interested - Here are some links to clips, some aren't written by Larry, but funny nonetheless.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

A show less known than Seinfeld, but Larry's second masterpiece. Curb is actually what Larry wanted Seinfeld to be: single camera, no laugh track, and improvisational. Larry plays an exaggerated version of himself, living in LA as a retired comedian and hijinks ensuing. Curb was a lot darker than Seinfeld (mainly because it was on HBO) and got away with darker storylines, cussing, and made little use of the typical sitcom. It ran from 2000 to 2024 and lasted over 10 seasons, while Larry made the use of his career mantra: no hugging, no kissing, no learning. I think it's even better than Seinfeld because it's a lot darker and doesn't involve much of executive meddling.

Here are some descriptions
Palestinian Chicken - Larry has sex with antisemitic Islamic woman
Larry vs Michael J Fox - Larry accuses Michael J Fox on shaking his soda on purpose
Happy New Year - Larry wears a MAGA hat so he doesn't have to meet with anybody
The Ski Lift - Larry pretends to be a jew to get a guys kidney while he's in a coma
Ida Funkhouser Memorial - Larry steals flowers from a gravesite
The Group - Larry accuses his uncle of molesting him to an incest survivors support group

Curb is so comedically out there, you just know it inspired shows to take on more darker storylines and pushed the envelope of comedy where It's Always Sunny carried the torch from.

Larry as of now is 80 years old, so his time is running out. What are your favorite Curb or Seinfeld moments? I know I didn't add further details about Curb such as Leon, Cheryl, Susie, but I wanted it to be about Larry's role in the show more than anything. Thank you for reading.

Scared the living daylights out of me for a moment, I hate surprise parties.

Maybe shocking considering the name, but while I enjoyed Curb, I found a lot of it too much for a second watch. Seinfeld I have watched front to back many times.

No question David is a genius. And I still hold out faint hope he may secretly be a Kiwi Sympathizer, at some level.

Larry makes fun of himself being a jew, I bet he would call himself a kike nigger if he were to sign up.

Always felt like the Seinfeld reunion season should've been the finale. Quality starts to noticeably dip after that. Also seemed like he divorced his character in the show just so he could write himself hooking up with various women. I also don't know how he didn't die of embarrassment and shame after creating an entire episode centered around sucking Alex Vindman's dick.

Ugh, with the exception of that obnoxious Vindman cameo (the modern day Deep Throat but even more pathetic) I think Curb's finale was pretty damn amazing. It became a finale to not just Curb but a 2nd sendoff to Seinfeld as well. I was so happy with myself when I guessed that they'd have Larry in a jailcell talking about a "Pants Tent" again.

The finale to Curb worked so much better because a court episode where flashback witnesses was really effective in Curb. Whereas with Seinfeld any real fan would have remembered pretty much all those characters. I didn't even remember Larry David killing a swan while golfing.

I think the season finale where they think Larry is gonna die after giving a kidney to his friend is some of the smartest writing in sitcom history. The whole show I think I ended every episode saying “poor Cheryl” because she always puts up with Larry’s nonsense and stays by her man. It was really sweet and I couldn’t figure it out because I personally would’ve hit my breaking point far earlier. However the second he dies Cheryl immediately starts to discuss issues regarding money and arguing with his agent about how much Larry owes him. It never even registered to me that she could be a gold digger and out about six seasons of interactions between them in a whole new context.

I admit I think a bit less of him ever since he agreed to do that Super Bowl ad for FTX.

Fuck that kike and his "haha I pissed on Jesus isn't it funny?" kike ass.
He's a gentile that talks like a kike

The way faggots worship these two kikes puzzles me, is it a gimmick?
Larry did some of the smartest sitcom writing ever, he pushed the boundaries with comedy such as making George not care about his fiance dying, Larry was on the pro Palestine side because an Islamic woman fucked him, and always tried to defy what a sitcom should be. Why else did shows like It's Always Sunny, Arrested Development, and even South Park to defy what should be written. As for Jerry, yeah I kind of get it. He is a good writer and did stick to Larry's ideas (for the most part), but the arrogance that comes with starring in Seinfeld made him a pompous douchebag. He isn't all that funny on his own (The Bee Movie is only good because its a meme, not because it was actually hilarious.) Everybody remembers Kramer and George because Jason Alexander and Michael Richards were committed in their acting and tried to be as unhinged as possible while Jerry was loose and didn't take it seriously.

Seinfeld is peak comedy for me, I could legit see a picture from an episode and know exactly what it is. It's the best combination of cringe, silly and witty possible. Curb Your Enthusiasm however was too cringy for me and I came out of episodes of it with a solid meh.

Curb was fine until Leon became a regular guest. I haven't watched much of it since then.

I agree they should’ve ended Curb after the Seinfeld reunion but this is still one of my favorites:

The Palestinian Chicken episode is a full hour of the funniest writing ever aired on Television.
1:12 onward always has me dying, hearing those words repeated by Bob Einstein never fails to have me on the floor.

What's funnier is that even 12 years later, people still don't get the point of the episode and think that it's solely making fun of Palestinians, and not Larry riffing on the Jewish community's attitudes towards Palestinians:

This guy is even told point blank to his face that the entire point is that Larry and everyone featured in the show is a bad person for the sake comedy and he still doubles down on being angry:

They even make the metaphor a billion times more obvious by the end of the episode where Larry's being forced to pick a side.

Main issue I had with Alexander Vindman is the guy can't act, no reason they couldn't have cast a actor in a role based on him if they had to have that plot line.

Also shame he never had the balls to do a episode based him shilling FTX Exchange.
