I read about him before but had it in my mind that he killed himself over losing a Michelin star but it was really just (probably means a lot more in these circles than it would for non-high-end chefs) Gaut Millau downgrading him from 19/20 to 17/20 according to Wikipedia. Damn.He is inspired, in part, by Bernard Loiseau, a real life French chef who killed himself when his restaurant's ratings dipped from "basically perfect" to "extremely good" amidst severe depression and debt problems.
