I intend to track this down and read this, sometime after I've finished the series adaptation. I also like that the author's surname reminds me of one of the Bravo Team Squad listed by Trautman in First Blood: https://rambo.fandom.com/wiki/Krackhauer, who were in this book, too... which, I can't remember, but I might have talked about before ages ago:

The man's gear is ancient, like, the harness seems to be from 70's, he has massive carabiners from 70's or 80's, while the 3D image seems to be more modern. Either is this method of imaging here longer than I thought, or they used old data, or the man fell while trying out vintage gear. The oldest occurence of this image I found is from 2013.

Unlikely to be a guy trying out older gear, while I'm not food hardy enough to be a recreational mountain climber "Authentic period accurate kit" is never that authentic, in my line of work you get a lot of people who want to be period accurate to whatever they are doing but it's never THAT accurate, especially if you have done it more than once.

In my line of work you get a lot of people pretending to be medivil, viking, roaman etc smiths but they always go modern / acronistic purely for quality of life, in my personal tools it's a proper mix of styles an technology i.e. my rounding hammer looks right out of the 14th / 15th century but I've hard faced them with O1 and the body is wrought iron and the handles are Hickory (an should be Ash) and I have a rubber band on the handles to adjust when i am fine tuning a swing for the job.

Thus was likely some poor fuck who had all the gear an found out the hard way gear doesn’t equate to skill or even random chance.
