One possible detail that might be off was that bishops were spiritual men forbidden to shed blood, so that awkward detail was resolved by going into battle with a club or mace. Odo, bishop of Bayeux, brother to William the Conqueror / the Bastard, fought at Hasting welding a club. Later, that was ruled out of order, but for a time, it was a way a bishop might supplement his spiritual weapons with real ones.
