Legacy of Kain Series

The sound in the first game is easily top ten of all games in history in my opinion. And you could argue is better than probably all but a handful of movies and shows as well. The acting, the effects of the weapons and spells, the music and ambient noises. Everything feels both powerful but also oppressive and defeatist and just grim.
Yup it was truly another era. People were really into exploring the darkness inside humanity, and the vampire/damnation story was just a vehicle for that.
Nowadays there's only zoomer cheese and kosher slop that has no emotional impact with the ultra rare exception.
I would be afraid if this saga gets another episode cause they will 99% fuck it all up.
I still listen to some of the songs during workouts, like this one:
Instead of draining people of blood you are killing foul creatures for their energy. Basically making the game PG-13.
The 3D Soul Reaver games had some blood too, cause Raziel has to fight human enemies like the vampire hunters and the Sarafan, even executions, but yeah he doesn't feed on them. Defiance will have Kain feeding on humans again, and Blood Omen 2 also has some sort of weird anime-ish Kain feeding on humans.
Anyway the 3D graphics were really in an incipient phase and it was half imagination half art.
First game is darker. Dunno, the more realistic you have to go, like 3D, the harder it is to create an oppressive atmosphere without being cheesy.

They had already killed it with Nosgoth, and those early previews of Dead Sun weren't any better. Modern day industry politicking being what it is would only guarantee a complete butchery. I'd rather they just give us improved ports to modern hardware for the mainline games and then fuck off. Plus, to be honest, I don't know how they could end it in a way that would be respectful and satisfying. Defiance ended on a really bitter but somewhat hopeful note and modern vidya writers would find someway to piss all over the tone it set.

Soul Reavers 1 + 2 are apparently getting remastered soon, if these figurines shown off at SDCC are any indication

I was replaying Soul Reaver 1 and using the DC port. I don't know if it held up. The graphics are fine and the resolution bump for the DC version is nice. The combat is good if a little bit clunky mostly regarding dashing. But the block puzzles... Whoah boy. It completely kills the momentum and then you have to switch planes of existence to complete certain puzzles and the game kind of punishes you for experimenting with that because when you do that you lose part of your health and to go back you need to restore health and then do it again which just wastes time. That and the first boss was very underwhelming but I'm sure it was revolutionary at that time to have a boss with a gimmick.

I hope they're just pure remasters with no bullshit. No surprise "re-recorded voice lines" or anything. And then I hope they do the same for Blood Omen 2 and Defiance then turbo fuck off forever.
I knw that trophies and archivements are a given because dopamine, but I hope they don't ruin the flow of the game with those.

The only extra that I can accept, is an art gallery with all the scraped content and concept art, or even a documentary-style interview with what's left of the original team (:optimistic:) about how the games came to be.

I don't like that the first thing before I looked at anything in regards to this was "I wonder how they're gonna fuck this up."

At least the original graphics will be present? I'm trying to be optimistic considering I have great love for the LoK series, but considering the recent trends of remasters, that's as much enthusiasm as I can summon.
