Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

Shit, exploring the ocean depths with a submarine is a great idea, I'm surprised I haven't thought of that.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do get another game in the Wind Waker continuity one day.
I dunno. BotW feels like Nintendo is all in on this new era.

Maybe if there was a secondary system I'd agree but it feels like Nintendo is consolidating their series releases, to me.

You might be right, but a BOTW3 could likely take a decade to come out or at least a while, so they might want to tide us over with a spinoff in between.

Plus Wind Waker is almost 20 years old, there'd be plenty of nostalgia and excitement if Toon Link returned.

I've always wanted a Zelda game set after Zelda 2. Since it's technically no the original land of hyrule, there's not as much reverence to the goddesses. Wouldn't mind something a bit more tech (Not saying modern day, just something closer to Fable 2).

Damn, I've owned Wind Waker for like 10 years and I never once played it. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Lets see why so many Zelda fans jerked off to it. I've played Phantom hour glass but never finished it.
I recommend it but remember that 90% of the game is carried by its charm. It's the easiest of the series and has some of the simplest dungeons in the series.

It is largely carried by its charm, I suppose, which was easier to get sucked into when it was new, but 90% is a bit of an exaggeration. The exploration is fun if you aren't IGN (7.8/10, too much water) and it at least has better combat than OoT and TP (at least as Wolf Link, which I didn't like).

I'd also say that while there's nothing as complicated as OoT's Water Temple, it isn't overly simplistic. You can't turn your brain off, it can get tricky (most notably the bird people island one and the tower in the ocean).

The exploration gets stale because there's a lot of dead squares. I can handle the ocean stuff but the reefs are worthless and there are other areas that just don't have much to offer.

I can't agree with you on combat. The only enemy that ever gave me anything resembling trouble were Darknuts. The bosses, while damn good looking, were nothing to write home about.

And the only dungeon that gave me trouble was the earth dungeon (Korok one) and I think that had more to do with the fact that it's the only one with any real verticality

This is all coming from a big TP and MC dicksucker though, so take it for what you will.

That was my big issue with Wind Waker. Traveling around the map was so tedious to me. When I got the teleportation song (I forget what it was called), I actually jumped for joy. I don't think I've ever been so happy to unlock something in a Zelda game before.

I guess its made even worse by having to buy each square of the map individually through the very tedious process of getting the fish food to lure the fish out and buy it from him. The whole thing was just messy to me.

The rest of the game works beautifully. If traveling the map wasn't such a chore, I'd think much higher of WW.

WW could really used some larger islands so that you'll have more opportunities to use your sword. Even when I booted it up for the first time and was railroaded to Dragon Roost, the voyage felt like the rest of the game will be equally boring; and I was right.

Phantom Hourglass did the ocean better (considering handheld limitations). Smaller ocean with more unique islands and ship combat that felt way more fun to me. Only WW has over it is control.

Granted I think Skyward Sword did the traversal worse than any game. God I fucking hate SS.

I don't think traversing the sea in Wind Waker would have been so bad if it weren't such a pain in the ass to fill in the map. Like, maybe if you didn't have to specifically find the fish out in the water to get your map filled out, you could just throw fish food out in any random part of any square and he'd appear.

I remember when I first played Wind Waker and saw Windfall Island for the first time and thinking "Wow, if this is the first inhabited island in the game just imagine what the others are like!" Then I find out its the only island in the game that actually is a full town; even Dragon Roost is just a dungeon with a little post office despite being the homeland of the Rito. Then they hype you up for Greatfish Isle as another big island town only to have it completely destroyed. Then I find the frozen island thinking its the homeland of that eskimo dude in Windfall but its just a wee thing to acquire the iron boots. I love WW but the Great Sea felt sorely empty and underdeveloped.

It hurts a bit more after seeing the concept art for what became Fire Mountain island which would've been bigger and had evolved Gorons with an actual bustling settlement at the base of the volcano.

Some people say WW was rushed no idea of how true that is but i can see it from all the concept art and what actually made it into the game, it just seems like a typical case of bad scope like the devs idea of what they wanted to make was faaar too big and the clock was ticking so they just decided to chop off most of it

All the early gamecube games from nintendo were rushed, Sunshine has a lot of cut content, melee didnt have enough time for polish and Iwata had to come and save the project, and yes, wind waker was rushed and they had to cut two dungeons and a couple of islands

You could really tell with Melee too. There was so many little things from the original that were just little things you'd put in when the game was being polished up that were gone in Melee. Each character had the same entrance, whereas they each had unique ones in the original smash, there was no victory music, etc.

I finally decided to give Zelda 2 a fair shot after having my nuts destroyed by it as a kid. It's definitely still a ball-ache, but I kinda like it. I'm about halfway through and I'm surprised by how deep the combat is for an NES game. Really makes me wish the modern Zelda games weren't so easy you could beat them with your eyes closed.

You should try Breath of the Wild.

Personally I have a soft spot for that little volcano out in the ocean, it was really cool sailing past that the first time, seeing it out in the water, turning it into a more typical game environment would have made it less special to me, sometimes less is more.

The whole little side quest with the fire and ice islands is one of my favorite parts of the game because they're among the few unique things you can find out in the water.

Could Wind Waker have used MORE things in it's ocean? Sure, but the unique things you can find like the ghost ship stick out all the more because of their rarity.

Breath of the wild isn’t that hard unless you play master mode. Only slightly hard boss is that one in the fuckin desert, and it’s been awhile so I don’t remember the name. Naborus maybe? You can just cook a lot of food though and it makes it a lot easier. Ganon was also piss easy.
