Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

Played TOTK for about ~9 hours now, thought I'd give some thoughts for those looking for different opinions. I'm not a Zelda fanatic, I've played through some of the games and enjoyed them. I wasn't too fond of BOTW; started out excited enough for me to buy it after playing someone else's copy for a few hours. The developers obsessively compared it to Zelda 1 because you can go wherever, and I became disappointed as I slowly realized the other main aspect of Zelda 1 was not here: there aren't cool dungeons and items hidden around for you to find when exploring. Shrines are not that, not even close.

That's really the main thing I wanted: mysterious dungeons & temples scattered or hidden throughout the world, each with some different lore, containing some cool treasure or tool. Imagine the Goddess Temple in that valley or that dragon's mouth in the jungle but they were actually dungeons, that sort of thing. No set linear questline or 100 cutscenes like the series eventually became. So, I wanted a modern 3D version of Zelda 1. Like they claimed it was. Crazy, I know.

So far, my opinion on TOTK is:
  • It's closer to Zelda 1 than BOTW was (in some aspects), but it's still not close. There aren't dungeons hidden around to find when exploring, just more Shrines, so I'm not interested.
  • The temple I did (after a big required Questline) was okay, it wasn't a big fucking robot and actually had some enemies in it, so that's nice, but still lacking. It did feel like a mysterious temple, I like that.
  • The beginning is quite a slog, and once you get to Hyrule make sure you start doing the main questline shit, otherwise you won't have the paraglider or towers activated.
  • Not too fond of building things, kind of finicky to get working properly, just not that interested in the concept.
  • I really like Fusing, especially Fusing Zonai to equipment. It feels like you have cool items, but they all look like utter shit (many of the weapons look black & tarnished, then you put a fucking rock or another shit tarnished weapon on top).
  • Combat is still kind of crap, but I think I'm willing to play around with the cool Zonai stuff enough to make it fun. Still needs more enemy types, where the fuck are stuff like Darknuts, Dodongos, or those Sword & Shield wyvern things from TP?
  • The user flow for Fusing weapons or items is long and so fucking tedious (e.g. Elemental Arrow = Arrow + Elemental item: must manually open the menu for every single arrow, resets if aiming is cancelled, choose item from the ENTIRE materials category organized in one endlessly long line).
  • It feels much more tedious in general: Stamina takes longer to recover so it's longer to get around, the game interrupts you every time you pick up a new item (including every weapon fuse variation :O), lots of other UX shit like that.
  • Even not playing the death out of BOTW and not playing it for a while, the map feels a bit too similar to me. Maybe just the specific places I've gone though, some have felt different.
I don't know, it does feel partly different, but not quite enough, and just doesn't have the things I want from it. BOTW 1.5 really feels quite fitting; not the same, but not radically different. Starting to check out, not sure yet. Just want cool dungeons/things to find and explore without an entire linear questline in order to do every single one of them. I'm not the norm at all, but thought it was worth providing a different perspective.

Did you get all the tears in your playthrough?
There were some anons on /v/ saying that Zelda would only return if you got all of them, but I don't trust anonymous motherfuckers and I also don't believe Nintendo would give players a bad ending were Zelda is stuck as a dragon for eternity

I'm disappointed that they didn't have those points be secret dungeons, Where you hear a rumor at a stable that hints that you need to retrieve something or perform a special action like cook four apples with salt in front of the statue in order to open the dungeon.

There was also the Master Sword Trials DLC
How far did everyone get in the master trials? I did the first stage, then realized I could just use the sages sword or the Fury sword when I needed more power, and the ancient chainsaw with the armor bonus for the rest.

Lol no I'm not doing another fetchquest, only had 2 tears.

comments are open. Also they don't even do anything with Botw's existing story so no idea why they posted this

The guy who makes the 30/60fps mod for TOTK is a troon, he included the comment "TransRightsAreHumanRights" because god forbid you do anything without bringing the fact you have a stickditch into it.

Hey guys! Missed you all and hope you are okay.

What are we fighting about now? Is the game just DLC? Are we mad about the day one patch? Or do we want to fling shit over the game's poor performance (which is fixed by aforementioned day one patch) and also be annoyed that the way Nintendo fixed it is bad or something.

Need to close with something unnecessarily inflammatory... ahhh... Oh! Okay.

Emulator fags BTFO with Nintendo's patch!!! (Don't mention that the patch was ripped and can be used on the emulator or our side will lose ground in this vital war)

I missed you guys. :heart-full:

There's a day one patch? didn't know, not being able to complain about the game for a few days made me sad

Woah hey a day one patch, who could have seen that coming?
I've noticed an increase in performance, especially in some areas and so far no more of those long stutters while traversing the open world. Not perfect by any means, but better than it was, especially considering the area I'm in has a lot of effects.

Replaying Twilight Princess HD. Just did the carriage quest and off to the water temple.

Been replaying Wind Waker HD, Thank god they trimmed down the fucking Trifoce fragments quest, it is even somewhat enjoyable now. I really wish we could have gotten the lava and ice dungeons instead of the little island

I like the change but also never had much of an issue with the original. Always felt like a case of some game journos complaining and gamers changed their minds to agree with their never satisfied opinion.

I also don't understand the issues with day-one patches. As long as it isn't 50GB or some absurd file size. I remember eagerly waiting to download 50kb patches for TFC and Tribes. Good times and my game got better.

Put a few hours into Tears, so far it's okay. I'd had the impression from Epoch that getting into the underworld took a long while, but there's a chasm right by Hyrule castle and I took a dive into it pretty quick and enjoyed that. Haven't done much of anything in the sky outside the newbie island yet, and am not really loving the overworld. For all that a lot of people were "lol it's a copy/paste", it seems to me like there's a lot of landscape that's shittier than in BotW, annoying hilly sections that make moving through them tedious and I don't recall them being thus before.
Also, there're building caches like every fifty feet, but without a steering wheel part I can't make any useful vehicles with them.
I'm already sick of weapons being broken dogshit and having to glue things on everything.
Performance is perfectly fine, I haven't encountered any problems in smooth gameplay.
