Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

Yeah I agree there. The game looks really good still, especially with upscaled HD textures.

It's making me wonder if I should give Windwaker another try. I've only played that one once as well when it first came out and I fucking hated it. It was really disappointing after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. It felt like a tedious, unfinished game and I'm pretty sure Tingle has to be my least favourite nintendo character of all time because of that game but I dunno, maybe I was wrong. People these days seem to think it's good.
HD remake on the WiiU “fixed” a lot of issues people claimed to have, regarding changing the wind’s direction and the Triforce quest at the end.
I liked the original in the GameCube, and thought a lot of the issues were an extension of people trying to criticize the art style. It also hits that perfect balance of dungeons seeming labyrinthine without the solutions becoming too obtuse like even the N64 titles ran into.

No I was just really butthurt about the triforce quest. They build it up like there's going to be a bunch more dungeons but actually it's a gay tedious fetch quest for a gay pedo fairy faggot. I actually liked the cartoony art style, that never really bothered me. That and yeah, the sailing back and forth across a mostly empty boring ocean. Unfortunately I don't have a way to play the Wii U version so it would be the GameCube one.

I mean, the game is unfinished, and I’ll admit that and an unashamed Wind Waker shill, it was Nintendo showing they could put a game out on a schedule. The Triforce chart and treasure hunting were definitely an undercooked concept, but dislike towards Tingle beyond what the narrative of the game (he’s explicitly a failure to launch in Majora’s Mask and implicitly taking advantage of family in Wind Waker) comes across as a juvenile opinion from 2006. He’s text on a screen and you should be dealing with him only in between doing other stuff.

Those Oracle remakes would be just the opportunity to update the clunky old games, and give Link 5 Ring slots. Consider me a lover of Roc's feather.
Was that in Oracle? I remember it being in LA, and it was one of my favorite items, even though the platforming was a little iffy.

So what's the general consensus on Twilight Princess?
Good but flawed, easy top 10 material, probably in the bottom half though. It has a very slow beginning, and even after you become a wolf and stuff it doesn't get interesting right away, I remember being very annoyed I had to hunt bugs early on.

It's making me wonder if I should give Windwaker another try.
You absolutely should, but it's one of those games that either clicks with you or it doesn't. Your perception can change over time so going back is worth it.

Personally, I liked exploring the ocean and didn't feel like it was as empty as everyone says. There's lots of little things to find, some are just curiosities but it's still fun. I definitely don't wanna hear about it being an empty ocean from BotW apologists lol

He's not just text on a screen. He makes weird faggy noises too. Majora's mask he was tolerable. Being forced to grind for thousands of rupees to pay his ass to finish the game is what did it for me.

Yeah I was thinking about it while I'm still in the mood to play Zelda, but Twilight Princess is kind of killing that mood fast and I've already got the HD texture pack for Metroid Prime downloaded and ready to go and it looks really nice.

When I played through it the first time I 100%ed everything and went over that whole fucking ocean fuck knows how many times. It was exciting finding things until you found all the things and then that was it. Again, I think it was more a disappointment thing. Here's this new console, with all these new capabilities and instead of a new bigger hyrule to run around in, they sunk it to the bottom of the ocean and gave you some mountain tops sticking out of the ocean, which otherwise, is pretty much a big blue void. I've never played BotW or the other open world one. I watched a friend of mine play through a bunch of BotW and it looked really boring and not very zeldalike.

Metroid Prime is another badass GC game, can't go wrong with that. But WW is way better than TP, so I wouldn't let TP kill your Zelda mood.

It really was a literally unfinished game patched up and sent out, so I understand the disappointment. The HD version was so lazy by not including the original cut content, fuck Nintendo for that.

Don't even bother, they're definitely boring and not zeldalike in the least. It's like a Zelda inspired knockoff from Ubisoft more than a proper Zelda game. It's probably fine if you're into what it offers and can take it for what it is rather than what it isn't, but I just don't like it much.

Metroid Prime is my favourite GameCube game by far.

That explains a lot. It's too bad because I do actually remember enjoying the dungeons and generally playing the game. Like I enjoyed it enough to finish everything. But after all the hype and the bullshit about the graphics and everything else it felt like a let down getting to the tingle shit and realizing, that was it. And fuck it I could always play up to the triforce quest and call it a day. Though, the ganondorf fight was pretty fun if I remember right.

I've been over open world games for a while now. Last ones I really played were skyrim and farcry 3. Farcry was kind of meh and the only thing I really liked was clearing out outposts and one day I was playing Skyrim and I realized I'd been playing for like 3 or 4 hours and all I'd done was craft items and rearrange my inventory and I realized I was done with that shit and haven't played an open world game since.

It's definitely up there for me, probably top 5. Something like WW, TTYD, MP, SSBM, and MKDD.

The dungeons are among the best in the franchise, very diverse and clever but not too tough, plus they all look amazing. Yeah, the Ganondorf fight is good, and the way he dies always stood out to me as particularly dark for the game. It's like damn bro, you really just sunk the sword deep into the mother fucker's skull in this cheery ass game lmao

Playing up until the Triforce section works, I don't know if you're against using guides or not but you could even use one just for that part alone. I remember finding the pieces was a bit of a hassle, but I did it blind. I probably would use one myself if I went back to it again.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I was never that wild about open world, though I do think it has its place. I think Skyrim was the only open world game I completed (not 100%, I stopped in a DLC dungeon with water raising mechanics which was more annoying than any Zelda temple). I've played plenty of them but lose interest fast. I almost finished New Vegas but similarly got stuck in a water temple-esque hellhole.

Not sure Gravity Rush really counts but I beat that. Might be semi-open world I guess. Excellent game.

If it doesn't look interesting to you, them don't bother with them. Some people love them, which is fine. Personally, I think they're the worst Zelda games on the Switch, and two of the worst overall. Tears is slightly better than BotW, but not enough to save it.

The worst game in the series that I've played (and I've played them all except for TotK), but that's not saying much since we're still talking about a Zelda game. It is more linear, but they take advantage of it by making it a tighter, more epic experience with some great dungeon design. It doesn't really hold up to repeat playthroughs though, I'm certainly not going to replay it anytime soon. Also, it's the first Zelda game where I gave up on 100%ing all the collectibles. The side quests kinda suck.

I ended up playing New Vegas backwards. I went straight to Vegas instead of doing the long windy loop in the beginning and something glitched out and I got a shit ton of money and experience and the game became kind of easy after that.

I took a break from it last night and played some of the A Link to the Past Redux hack instead it just reaffirmed how little fun I was having with Twilight Princess. I had more fun getting through the first two dungeons in Alttp than I had with almost 20 hours in Twilight Princess and that MSU-1 music is good.

There is so much LA in the Oracle games it ain't funny.

No 3D Zelda besides maybe Ocarina holds up to repeat playthroughs, that's a tired argument. NuZelda has you redo that tedious tutorial on the plateau every time you begin a new save, Majora's Mask has an entire cycle as Deku Link before the game proper starts, Wind Waker had the entirety of its opening, the pirate rope swinging, and arguably all of Forsaken Fortress with its bad stealth. The rest would be too tiring to deal with, like the guy who said TP's story is "mid"... Thankfully those opinions are as minority as a White in Zimbabwe.

I've played through Twilight Princess a while ago or tried to, with a randomizer so the whole world is open and despite how open the game becomes I still agree with Grub, game really does feel bland and a slog to get through
overworld is boring and barren with nothing interesting, every dungeon except lakebed and snowpeak suck or aren't fun, a lot of cool items that get very little use(spinner, the rod, ball and chain, slingshot becomes useless once you get the bow in the second dungeon, zora armor and waterbombs that are only used on an occasion) minigames suck, sidequests suck

I'd rather play any other 3D zelda game and the thing TP has going for it most is Midna, the combat especially the bossfights, music, and maybe the concept of some items
I know it's been repeated a lot but this game really does feel like a response to wind waker with very little else going into it

Echoes of Wisdom would probably be a decent game if someone at Nintendo remembered how to make a decent UI.

Scrolling through 30 pieces of furniture to pull out the bomb fish once a dungeon is getting on my nerves.
I don’t use it enough for it to be any closer on the other sorting options.

So what's the general consensus on Twilight Princess? I've only ever played through it once a couple years after it came out and generally I remember enjoying it except for the wolf parts but I've been doing a second playthrough of it and I'm finding it to be a real slog to get through. I just finished the arbiter's grounds and every time I play I have to get myself motivated to keep going.

The world feels bland and disconnected from the story. Like the story events don't really seem to have am impact on the characters in the world outside of story events. The Zora feel like their shoehorned in just for the sake of being there same with the gorons. In fact, the first three dungeons feel like they're only there because Ocarina of Time had a forest, fire and water dungeon.

The dungeons are ok. The puzzles are fun, but they all feel very linear and once you figure out where you're supposed to go there's not really much to them. Combat is fun and generally the improved game mechanics are a lot of fun. It's fun running around and doing stuff as link but everything around that just feels meh. The story isn't great. It feels like they tried to combine the stories from A link to the past with Ocarina of Time and kind of failed at it. I always thought the story in that game was pretty dumb. When I first played it, it felt like a ripoff of Metroid Prime 2 and it still feels pretty derivative.

The whole game feels kind of uninspired. Like it was made to address the complaints against windwaker but not much else.
So I think they hit a good formula for 3D Zelda the first time out with OOT. Then they used it again in Majora's Mask & Wind Waker, but changed them up enough that they didn't feel redundant. I think what happened with Twilight Princess was it was the fourth time they essentially used the 3D Zelda formula established on the N64, and it doesn't really do anything different with it besides have more realistic graphics. At the same time, they expanded everything, the world, the tutorial area, etc. So you didn't just get more of the same, you got much more of the same. People were so burned out on the formula after Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword only sold something like 3.5 million copies on Wii, a system with an installed base of over 100 million. I honestly think that scared the shit out of Nintendo and caused them to rebuild 3D Zelda from the ground up.

So you didn't just get more of the same, you got much more of the same. People were so burned out on the formula after Twilight Princess,
Since going back and starting a link to the past again, this seems true. Everything wears out it's welcome in TP before it's done. The dungeons are fun but they drag on. The segments between dungeons feel tedious and forced because they drag on too long. Twilight Princess feels padded out and extraneous in a lot of cases.
