Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

Skyward Sword only sold something like 3.5 million copies on Wii
Yeah, but that game sucks for a 3D Zelda. Motion controls aside, the world is terrible, especially the surface. The land isn't even connected. The sky is Wind Waker but well, in the sky. Fi is a boring partner, way to robotic. She also has a simp robot that makes you want to obliterate the motherfucker.

The moles in Eldin are adorable, thought. Kinda wish they brought it back.

Echoes of Wisdom would probably be a decent game if someone at Nintendo remembered how to make a decent UI.

Scrolling through 30 pieces of furniture to pull out the bomb fish once a dungeon is getting on my nerves.
I don’t use it enough for it to be any closer on the other sorting options.

Just spam the stuff you like over and over for a few minutes and they'll end up at the top of the most used list. After doing that for the stuff I wanted the game became a lot more enjoyable.

I just beat Breath of the Wild. I liked it overall, but it's not gonna be my favorite anytime soon. I think I said most of my piece already, but here's a few more random thoughts:

- I have to disagree with my man @SSj_Ness. The world is quite dense with little things you can discover, even if it's just minor stuff.
- I used a guide to track down the last 30 or so shrines. I don't think there's any shame in that, some are quite well-hidden.
- Rain is fucking bullshit and whoever thought that it was a good idea to force the player to sit down and do nothing until it stops deserves the rope.
- Unlocking the Armor of the Wild and fighting Ganon with the Master Sword and Hylia Shield felt pretty good.
- Like, 90% of recipes are pointless because you can only buy the ingredients at certain shops three at a time. Also they're worth shit, why should I go through the trouble of making a fruit cake that recovers five hearts when I can just fry a radish for a full recovery?
- The ending feels a little abrupt, but the post credits scene is nice
- Also, it's kinda heartwarming that they credited Iwata as a producer.
- I had to edit this post four times because, apparently, I'm bad at typing.
- Five times, actually, because editing fucks up the formatting.

TotK is next. I kind of dread it. Not because I expect it to be bad, I expect it to be derivative.

Late and gay, but I just finished Echoes of Wisdom. It's refreshing to go back to the roots. I loved the fact that my Zelda was wearing the cat outfit through the cutscenes at the end. Also, it was funny that I could use Link as a meat shield in the final fight.

Overall, an 8/10. Would I revisit numerous times it like I have A Link to the Past? No, but it's enjoyable.

I'm a few hours into TotK and it already grates on me for two reasons: Firstly, it feels like I'm doing shit I've done before all over again for no reason, which is not great for a sequel.

Secondly, and it took me a while to realize that that was irking me, this I'd the first time a direct Zelda sequel undermines the end of the preceding game. The ending of BotW, with the Silent Princess, was really nice, and now there's suddenly another existential threat that's been there the whole time.

I am very impressed how well building stuff works, even if the mechanic feels really bolted on.

One thing that really gets my goat is no one knowing who the fuck Link is. Like 95% of Hyrule aside from the Zora and really plot critical characters don't know him by name or what he's done. He's just "Zelda's Bodyguard" after saving Hyrule just a few years back. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Echoes of wisdom is really a breath of fresh air after tears of the kingdom even with it's clunky menu. I miss getting piece of hearts and not doing 4 shrines for a heart container. Rate me autistic, but I dislike big open worlds. BOTW and TOK are way too long and a nightmare for a 100% completion.

So I’ve got time off over Christmas, so I’ve decided to get through the N64 Zelda games because they remain the only 3D pre-BotW Zelda games I haven’t completed before (as I was a poor child unable to afford a Nintendo 64).

Real hardware or emulation? There are PC ports of the N64 games now.
Emulation because the living room projector (if I want sound) is HDMI only. I was considering Ship of Harkinian, but I already had the emulator set up and I didn’t want to fuck around with anything more complicated right now.

Might be better to play through the 3DS remakes, but there's nothing wrong with the originals either. I actually never played MM3D, but I hear it benefited the most from QoL improvements, with OoT the draw is basically just better graphics and Master Quest being included.

I actually had the 3DS remakes, but never finished them. I’m not a fan of their art styles, and the MM remake infamously had its controls neutered from the N64 version.

I see. Yeah, I can understand that. I thought they looked fine, better in some ways, worse in others, and the 3D was a neat novelty at times. Never heard about the controls being neutered, just it making some kind of controversial content changes (not just controls or time travel stuff).

What controls were changed?
