lego really wend downhill in the last decade or two. I kind of feel bad for kids growing up with the overpriced shit they have out now
The past decade had some great stuff like Ninjago, Chima, and Nexo Knights. It feels like their quality has gone downhill only since 2020, when the AFOL/MOC dust collector set mentality began trickling down to the kids' sets and play features began disappearing for extra detail. Leave the detailed stuff for a few big D2C sets.
Also the lego friends stuff has to be the lowest point they've ever hit. That shits just embarrassing. I'm not even sure who the market is even supposed to be for that. Surely not kids. No zoomer baes or alphas would be paying for that shit. 40 year old autistic wine moms maybe?
Why don't you like Lego Friends? They're better City sets than City sets (except that period of 2021/2022 when City made actual city buildings with that road system, and the current 2024 Space sets). Lots of kids would like them. Kids, especially girls, love detailed buildings like in Calico Critters and Playmobil since it's basically an adult world in your own hands. If they generalized the sets and used regular minifigs they would be perfect.

It's been years since I've built anything Star Wars.

Had some Lego reward points built up, and I decided to get the newest version of the AT-TE. I always liked all the various Walkers. Just over 1000 parts, and I added 150 or so more. Didn't alter the basic design, just added a bunch of studless tiles to smooth out it's appearance. Has a full interior with decent detail. A fun build.

Finished up a project I started last year.

The 1/110 scale Saturn V model. Really fun build and at 40" tall, it's a big sucker. This is specifically the Apollo 11 version, and has a rather clever parts count of 1969. You can separate the different stages, and it also has a fairly good representation of the internal structure and fuel tanks as well as the LEM.

It's definitely not a fragile hollow tube. Some solid design work went into this one. It also comes with 3 tiny 1/110 scale astronaut figures that really give a sense of scale.

I have the Saturn V. I loved that build. I can't stand it up anywhere though, too tall. Great pictures man. You did good.

Thanks.

And yeah, it really was a fun and different kind of build. Techniques that are new to me. I have the space, but it's way too tall and heavy to display standing up alone. It needs something to steady it.

I've been looking at various fan designs for building a pad and launch tower as a steady display stand similar to the Artemis set. I'm going to use some existing ideas combined with my own. Should look something like this digital rendering I came across.

Another project to add to the cue. Bought the 1:200 scale Titanic. Had a bunch of reward points built up, so I got a pretty good deal on it. Supposed to be the largest Lego model ever produced as far as size, and the second largest by parts count.

It has 9090 parts, 56" long, and will weigh 35 lbs. Breaks down into three sections with detailed cross sectioned interior and working engines. The combined page count of the three volume instruction manual comes to 796 pages. Next largest set I've built is the Ferrari Daytona with 3800 parts, so this should be interesting.

My faithful assistant is ready to claim the outer box as her own new house.

Lego is shit now. They are preying on nostalgia and disposable income of 80's/90's adults for models which are too big, and nothing more than dust gatherers. They also stoke the whole 'LEGO IS AN INVESTMENT' shit for beanybaby style hoarding. I have a shitton of the stuff in my basement, including some very valuable sets (cafe corner), but fuck it...every year is more 'REMEMBER THIS FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD!'.

God, I wish they were doing that. If so, we would have more remakes of classic ships, but Lego refuses to meaningfully acknowledge any ships other than the Galaxy Explorer outside of minifigures. That said, Ninjago has taken the dust collector route this year to appeal to nostalgia-addled zoomers, which is sad, and Sonic is unironically one of the best new play themes alongside Dreamzzz and City (this has been one of the best years for City with the space sets, the double-decker bus, the biplane, and the harbour -- but I wish the harbour had more play features like and a more industrial feel, with the marina as a separate set).

They *are* doing that.
HAY GUYS DO YOU REMEMBER TRANSFORMERS HOME ALONE GHOSTBUSTERS THE SHIT YOU WATCHED ON TV AS A CHILD?! ZOMG LOOK A LIMITED LEGO CASTLE THAT COSTS A FUCKING FORTUNE!! GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN!!!
The only good set they released in the last 5 years was the big fucking pirate ship that was wrecked on an island, but you could rebuild the full ship if you wanted

Do children even play with Lego nowadays when they can just get their tablet and jump into Minecraft Roblox?

I picked up my first Classic Space set from eBay the other day, 6926 Mobile Recovery Vehicle. I've always liked the charm and simplicity of Classic Space, but haven't picked one up until recently because a lot of them are at prices I'm not comfortable paying. I got this set for $25 which seemed reasonable enough to me.

Had a couple of rainy days earlier this week, so I took the opportunity to build the new 1/8 scale Technic Apollo 17 LRV. Just over 2000 parts after my additions. I added some small details like power cables for the various cameras and antennas, and covered some studded panels with properly colored studless tiles.

Overall a pretty slick design that breaks down and folds up much like the original. Once unfolded and setup it has working 4-wheel steering and 4-wheel independent suspension. When broken down it has display stands complete with data plaques. It's big, and the overall dimensions are close to the original.

I ran out of time and good light so I wasn't able to take closeup pics of all the internal detail. There are multiple access doors and compartments that open up to reveal internal panels with a bunch of plated parts and high quality decals. There are layers of cool stuff underneath it all as well as a working removable drill and other geological tools on the rear rack. It even has a representation of the gyroscopic nav system under one of the front access panels. A magnetic compass would have been useless due to the composition of the Moon.

This one was a fun and fascinating build.

A pic from the Lego site of the LRV folded up and broken down on the display stands.

Licensed sets are cancer. Castle, Pirates, Space and City master race.

Also Speed Champions. Find me a man that doesn't rubberneck when passing the Lego car sets in the supermarket and I'll find you a faggot.
