Dang. She has a body like Fred Mertz now.
Every time I see her being taken seriously by large media platforms, I cannot believe that she is anything other than a giant inside joke amongst the elite jet set. Much like the breathless Vouge coverage of her wedding, this HAS to be a joke or else I might go mad.

Lena is a brainless, fat, self centered idiot. When her thoughts are taken seriously by anyone with any sort of cultural influence, it just serves as a reminder that elites don't know anything about anything and that they huff their own farts all day while being in charge of the world via wealth. I'm very grateful that the Dunham girls have taken themselves out of the genetic pool via their lunacy, but there are so many other nepo babies out there breeding a new generation of village idiots who will continue to be in charge of humanity at large and I start to pray for an asteroid to take all of us out before any other intelligent lifeform finds out how stupid we are.

The tragedy here is that Lena ain't that bad at writing. She has talent for creating credible dialogue and fluid conversations between her characters. She happens to believe stupid things, so she writes stupid things.

I agree, Lena is a great writer (or was) and has star power. Girls was an objectively good show. Extremely fresh, easy to watch, great acting (especially from Allison Williams, Dunham, Andrew Rannels, and Adam Driver). It was such a mood and captured the 2010's essence more than any other piece of media.

However, she is still a complete joke in Hollywood because she's self harming levels of batshit insane. She's a Kanye West, but a weird fat liberal white woman version. That doesn't negate the talent and innovation she had at one point.

Rainbows on this one. She was an OK writer.

You know who's a terrific actor? Sean Penn. Thing is, he is a hopeless leftoid so he tends to choose projects highlighting his views, which are retarded. His talents then go to waist.

Same for Lena. She can set scenes and create realistic characters, but she frames them within his worldview of liberal progressiveness and feminism. Her characters and situations are real and feel real, but they're also unlikeable because that's how most people see characters like that. And she somehow knows that.

Shoshanna, at the end of Girls, decides she doesn't want to hang out any more with the other three. She says she's found girls with "good jobs and pretty bags" to their face. And she found a normal guy she's engaged to. When the other three try to drag her to their drama to solve their friendship, she's just like "no, I won't" and leaves because they're doing a scene during her engagement party. She also previously told Hannah (Lena) that she wouldn't want to be like her, always miserable and mentally unwell. She's considered the best character.

Funny how Lena has some self awareness that her life is a mess, yet she doesn't see that Shoshana's decisions are what make her life improve and those decisions are simply not being or act like Hannah or Lena or being near her. Lena wrote this character pretty well, she just won't follow her own subconscious advise.

Tiny Furniture is the same: we are told she was miserable when in college, she wasn't sure she liked graduating in film theory, and has no idea what do with her life. Then why she went to college? Because she was meant to go there. She's only happy having boyfriends, she would have been happy marrying since the beginning of her life (Lena, not her character) but her views tell her that was wrong.

The first scene in Girls I found fascinating because Lena wrote it making fun of how horrible she is...but then she has continued being Lena ever since anyway.
Her self-insert character "Hannah" gets cut off by her parents after making them pay all her bills for two years after college. She shows how out of touch she is, arguing that she's entitled to their never ending funding because she's their only child and at least she's not a drug addict.

The scene is framed to make her look like a whiny spoiled brat, while the parents are depicted as caring, intelligent and using tough love for the first time. Hannah is snotty and selfish.

There were other scenes in Girls, here and there, that were also pretty directly written from the perspective of Joe Blow middle class. In moments of reflection, Lena knows she and her buddies are horrible people. Yet she remains Lena Dunham.

It's like deep inside she is resentful for the life she has to live because it's her "role" as a modern woman.

In "Uptown Girl", Brittany Murphy character shows talent for designing and when she goes to apply for college, she's told that she doesn't need to, because she can get a job quickly with any of her famous friends. She says she wants to study because she wants to learn properly.

I feel like Lena is all the opposite. She only needed to tell her family she wanted to write and skip college. She did it because she had to. She's always letting us know how much her life sucks because of it.

Same as her personal life. For a feminist, she's very needy for a relationship. She wants a guy who takes care, she just won't admit it.
