I'm assuming it's this. He's mostly just talking to himself it looks like and all his current drama's on FB. The one guy who seemed to have gotten kicked out of this rail road thing with him seems to have stopped supporting Shaner too. I don't blame him since Len seems to be a pretty toxic person to be associated with.

I was curious about this too and since it's mind numbingly boring for me to dig through years worth of online train sperging I called my friend up again to see if he knew anything. So here's what he said happened.

Back in the 90's a huge quarry in Pennsylvania flooded. I think he said it was something like Dyer's or Dire's quarry. It flooded really fast supposedly only taking a day or two. They couldn't get their equipment out including a steam train they were using supposedly. The End.

Or is it? Now it's 2005 and wouldn't you know it someone claims to have seen the roof of a train cab above the water. Who do you suppose it was who saw it but the train worlds resident shit disturber Len Shaner Jr. He starts telling everyone about this because he's an attention whore who, like most cows, wants to be important and respected. Everyone get's excited about this because supposedly this train is quite rare, there's valuable history involved, etc. etc.

Shaner, being himself, starts pretending he knows government officials and then in his infinite stupidity starts making alt accounts of these officials so that he can hold conversations with them. Of course all of these officials are complete fabrications and don't exist. However, everyone's super excited and don't even think to question that Len might be making all of this up.

Things start getting way out of hand. Large amounts of money start to come in as word of the possibility of recovering this train from the bottom of a quarry pond reaches a head. Len, using his fake Park and Recreation Official's accounts, convinces some train group to invest a crap load of money into specialized diving equipment so some diver who was also into trains could go down and see if it was there and if they could get this thing out. Of course diving in this quarry lake would be unreal dangerous because the reason it flooded so fast was because an underwater aquaphor (where you drinking water comes from) had broken through. Basically, if the diver got sucked into that you're never getting him out.

So things are gearing up, people are getting excited for trains, and Shaner's feeling like the big man on campus because his lies are actually working. Then they stop working because all this attention get's around to the Federal Government. Real National Park officials start showing up and start asking who OK'd this project. Everyone refers them to Len Shaner's park official profiles and it's easily discovered by the real officials that all these guys don't exist and are actually Len.

The entire project comes to a screeching halt because of this, obviously, because no one actually had permission to check out this quarry and diving isn't allowed because of how stupidly dangerous it would be. People get real mad at Len, Len nearly gets federal charges, and Len gets banned from numerous rail related things.

I'm sure there's a thread buried in some train forum about this. Again this is just what my train buddy told me.

Wow. Just this incident alone would be enough to justify the entire train community's hatred of him. I'm actually surprised he didn't get charged for this. How'd he weasel out of that, autism card?

Now that you have all immersed yourselves in the foamy lunacy that is railfanning, I am here to fill in any blanks, and to give you a low down list of the RR institutions that Shaner has been banned from. Keep in mind that most of these organizations are completely volunteer run operations, and finding people willing to do all the things that go into running a passenger operation is really tough. From track crew to mechanical, to on board food prep and people management, this is not the most fun volunteer thing you can get into. So, on to the Shaner bannings!

Circa 2004, Strasburg Railroad/Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. Two separate institutions that work very closely together, Strasburg is America's very first tourist line, and a very popular attraction for the NYC/Philly metro areas. Shaner fancied himself Strasburg's "official photographer" and could often be seen along the line taking pictures and making a general nuisance of himself (foamers will yell at train crews and passengers for "ruining the shot"). Hardcore railfans also usually have a locomotive that they really love, in Shaner's case it is one that happens to be at the PRRM (Reading RR #1187). Strasburg restores locos for the PRRM once in a while, and Shaner decided that it was time they restored the 1187. He wrote a letter as the head of the mechanical department at Strasburg to the President of the PRRM, and vice versa saying that the time had come to get the 1187 back up and running. It didn't take either of these men long to figure out what was up, they then confronted Shaner and warned him that this behavior was unacceptable and that it was 2 of his 3 strikes. Shaner took offense to this, and set about getting some type of foamer vengeance on Strasburg. One afternoon Shaner sets up his camera and tripod along the one sharp curve on the Strasburg line, he then sets a couple of tie plates down on the rail in an attempt to derail the train and get it on film. What he didn't count on was that a track crew was out that day to go and fix a signal along the line. They hit the plates and pushed them off the rail (rail equipped trucks have brushes or flaps ahead of the rail wheels to keep debris from derailing the truck). The crew got out to check what all the track clatter was, saw the tie plates, and Shaner waddling as fast as he could back to his truck. No real proof that he put the plates down, but more than enough for Strassburg and the PRRM to ban him from the properties.

That last one is a page devoted to ripping Shaner and another foamer named Alex Gillespie. Facebook is the foamers medium, and Shaner's most of all. He LIVES on Facebook when his isn't chasing trains.

Honestly, I think what would help most with clarity is if you made a list of all of Shaner's aliases, and then a list of who the real people are and what their beef is with Shaner. I keep seeing comments about "you made threats" and "you made fun of my disability/wife/dog/auntie's dining room set" and I'm more intrigued by that. I'm totally willing to take you at your word that Shaner is behind all those alts. My 2 cents.

I'm assuming it was that. I can't say for sure since I've only been following this guy for less than a year.

Honestly, I think what would help most with clarity is if you made a list of all of Shaner's aliases, and then a list of who the real people are and what their beef is with Shaner. I do sort of have a list made in my first post on this guy where I break it all down right now I'm just putting together a good foundation of proof for fun and profit. I fear he's making me autistic since I'm getting such a kick out of comparing his aliases and pages for damning hints of manchild. Tomorrow I'm going to nail him to owning all these pages and then I'll hopefully be able to start finding stuff on all the crap the other guys mention about him.

I'll be honest, I'm surprised one of you guys showed up. I've got some questions and if you'd be ok with it I'd love to hear anything you might know about Shaner since I'm guessing you've met him.

Holy crap. So I only found about half his profiles then? I'll check them out and update the front page when I have the chance.

I'd seen the "Meet the Conspirators" page actually but there hasn't been anything lulzy going on there. Plus it looks like mostly personal info on people he's mad at so I didn't feel it was right to put any of that here.

@Wilhelm the term foamer is used by RR employees to describe railfans, the love trains so much they foam at the mouth. There is a video I posted on foamers above. In addition to being hilarious, it pretty much shows exactly how they act around trains. Foamers are also incredibly hostile to each other, and people who don't know about trains.

For instance, normal people would be like "Oh look a cool steam train! I better pull out my phone and get a video or picture! My kids will love this!"

Foamers will scout photo locales for weeks before a train comes through, then set up their tripods and wait for hours, yelling at people who wander by to stay out of the shot. Once the train has gone by, the foamers will leap into their trucks/suvs, (foamers never drive cars for some reason) and fly to the next photo spot, breaking speed limits, laws etc. to get there. Once there, especially if it is a public place like a park or old train station, they will commence to screaming at everyone to get out of the shot area, or be sued by "Journey Back in Time Productions" (Shaner's "company" name). This will often lead to altercations between foamers and normal people.

Sometimes foamers will also attack train crew, leaving locomotive doors and windows open ruin shots. Passengers waving ruin shots. Dirty rolling stock ruins shots. If the foamers perceive that the shot was ruined by the train crew, they'll usually seek some sort of foamy vengeance, Facebook attacks on the RR are most common, but calls to the office to report "unsafe" operations by the train crew are common as well.

Sorry to get long winded, foaming at the mouth over trains, generally terrible people. I've been around RR's a long time, and I've come to find that casual railfans are generally good people. Hard core railfans (foamers) are fucking awful shitty people.

That is some genuine hardcore autism. Have they always been like this or is it an Internet thing? Being a rail fan is a pretty old school hobby. I've known a couple people who were obsessed with trains. They were a mite peculiar but nothing like this.

Anyway, this is the coup de grâce for Leonard Shaner's profiles and the last bit of proof I'm going to submit. It's just getting redundant and boring at this point. He's really dumb and is making it too easy.

Here it is. Proof that this is mostly a one person (Shaner) effort of tarding out.

@AnOminous yeah, railfanning has always been a thing, but now the foamers can post their pics and videos everywhere and yell at each other for supposed "copyright infringement." I think the interwebs has given the dregs a much louder voice (as it does in all things) than they would have normally. "Online" gave the foamers a new medium, and like I said before, there are railfans, and there are foamers.
