Friendly note of advice to take away.

We aren't 4chan or /cow/.

Treating us like such is a good way to get 12 Dumb ratings and a ban.

Welcome to the Farms. Try not to be autistic next time you post.

Thanks for the welcome.

Is there a place for me to learn how "not to be autistic"? A wiki or something? I'll bone up.

Since I'm not autistic, I'm not sure why my posts are being misconstrued as autistic?

And I agree that it's very nice to see organizations taking an interest in being supportive of kids who are different.

And then there's this place - making fun of people who are different.

You're missing one key component. This place, and its members rarely make fun of people for being different. This place and its members make fun people because they're assholes, or they use the fact that they're different as a shield, or they engage in fits of rage, lashing out at others without empathy.

I very transparently explained the entire process while being abused for being a sock puppet.

You have to admit that some suspicion, in a thread where the topic of discussion is known for sockpuppeting, is warranted when you're a brand new user and you make your first post here. Doubly so when you make the first post you did espousing on what's best for the site despite being new to the site.

We don't make fun of people who are merely "different." We make fun of people who have a particular kind of difference: anti-social behavior. Like Len Shaner. He is an exceptionally anti-social individual with no regard for the needs, feelings, or indeed legal rights of others.

So, the question remains: Why do you care enough to post in this particular thread when you clearly don't think highly of our site?

Plus there have been so many damn sock puppets on this website in general, and you acted pretty similar to them. You could probably understand our suspicion.

We don't mock people who are "different".
We mock people who are total assholes, performing inexcusable acts (often which violate the law), and once confronted will say that their being "different" excuses them.
I won't judge you based on race, religion, sexuality, whatever. I will judge you if you act batshit insane, and I'll judge more if you sink so low that you use being "different" as an excuse.
I hope that clears things up, @Fixible.

@Saul Goodman has posted the number before, I believe, but it's estimated that around 40% of the "farm's" userbase is on the autism spectrum. We have members who are dealing with, or who have dealt with, just about everything listed in the DSM. Again, it's not about being different, many different people fit into society just fine, even if they don't conform to all the rules and retain their individuality. We make fun of those that don't fit, by choice not design, especially when they expect everyone else to conform to their normal.

As I'm answering a lot of questions today, why not this one?

I'm studying sociology and am in the midst of writing a thesis paper.

I wonder if the subject of this thread was like one of those kids on the train on the Facebook page 40 years ago, an autistic downs syndrome kid, wouldn't he have been the subject of positive remarks for managing well with the help of the adults around? And then when that kid grows up and there are no services and no parents, as appears to be the case here, and obsessive and compulsive behaviors are not managed how does society deal with that? What help is received, what hurt is inflicted?

Why is it when the autistic kids like trains that's considered cute and ok but then there is an entire site is devoted to bashing autism and obsessions like with trains where you say stuff like:

"....there's a place where autism is rampant and that's trains. Rail fans, a.k.a. foamers, can be some of the most autistic and horrible people you can meet."

It's fascinating watching how various groups deal with adults who have special needs or have mental disabilities.

How about I get to ask a few questions?

Does this group assume that there's nothing that can be done to help mentally challenged people with anti-social behaviors?

Could they not be helped to have regard for the needs, feelings, or indeed legal rights of others?

Does this group believe that luring these adults into being Lolcows is helpful to them or hurtful to them?
