Let's Make A Rogue Trader House (using the lifepath from Into The Storm)

What about Necron Tyce? Is that even possible? Because it would be hilarious.
Probably about as possible as Skeleton Tyce. Now a human character that wears a metal skull mask talking about happy friendly Necrons and worships them, that's possible. Plus it comes with the benefit of him making Necron artifacts out of trash. Fuk the Arbitees and teh Gud Emprah. #Future Tyced

Necron Tyce as an utterly useless NPC would be pretty funny. Like, I can totally see him doing stuff like "Prank Calling the Chaos Gods". I don't care if that's against everything in the canon, it would still be hilarious.

Abbadon gets a mysterious phone call.
"Hello?"
"I fucked your mom."
"I-I'm sorry? Who is this?"
"Pranked."
And than Cadia is mysteriously blown up. Witnesses described a mysterious phallic-shaped necron device that appeared to have been looted by Orks.

I thought Creed already did that every night.

Gentlemen I present Bolter Nation.
Ultramarines Captain Jaceus OrbitalStryker Retired Wounded Space Marine occasional borderline heretic.
Necron Pariah Tycebot 9000 Former Ultra Marine Scout that got abducted by Necrons
Ogryn Elias Bearskin Absent mindedly follows the commander for rations.
Imperial Guard NCO Colby Fagson Deserter
Eldar Warlock Kalyll Weedwhispers Affiliate, only profiting from BN's existence.
Lord Inquisitor Inquistordude420 Really BolterPrimach420

Just like the real Deagle Nation they would they would turn on each other and kill themselves off. Alright I'll stop now, I'm sure we will run into bizarre enough characters already.

I have a non-silly question to ask.
What are lifespans like in the WH40K universe? Like, what's the age range I could make my character? Is it at a modern level, a medieval level, a "lifespan of hundreds of years" level?

It varies heavily based on your world and race. On an Imperial World or Noble world, 100+ is certainly likely. Primitive or Feudal World? Good luck getting past 40. Eldar can live thousands of years, functionally Immortal if their spirit stones work. Orks potentially immortal, Orks get killed so much no one knows if they can die from old age. Really crafty warbosses have lived a long ass time though. Dark Eldar are literally Immortal as long as they can keep bringing the pain. Tau have human-ish lifespans I think. This is Warhammer though, pretty much everyone has a short, brutal life that ends with a messy and/or horrifying death. Seeing as your dude is on a RT ship. We're probably rich enough to retire and live to 114 if we survive.

We're a party consisting of a young, arrogant, kid who talks his way out of problems and has a thing for xenos. Heir to a Rogue Trader dynasty founded on blind luck, fuck ups, and heresy. A semi crazy survivalist/bounty hunter, who ran with Ork mercs so long he may as well be one. And a Seneschal who toes the line between adviser and gangster. With a potential for two more guys.

We are so fucking high.

I reiterate my previous statement about empathizing over the workload and being willing to wait, but if we don't hear back from Surtur today I'ma go ahead and start the game without his character and we'll introduce him as soon as he's finished. It's a large ship (4.2 kilometers if you go with the Lathe-class) so it's very conceivable that one of the major players might be busy elsewhere for the first little while.

Edit: Also I'm going to go ahead and let you take the extra 3 ship points regardless of whether Surtur takes Child of the Dynasty, so if you like that Lath-class Monitor Cruiser I posted you can have it. It has lots of room for new stuff, a respectable weapons layout, and an evil cybernetics lab for turning dead/annoying crewmembers into zombie-bots.

I do like the sound of a secret servitor lab. It should boost worker productivity.

Thread is a thing.

Please post character sheets. @Surtur if you could just post anything at all just to reserve a slot then post your sheet when you have one that would be very helpful.

Once all this is ready we can get on with the show.

A note on the system:

Rogue Trader, with rare exception such as weapon damage, resolves everything with a d100 roll. If I say "roll X" and you think "I don't know how to roll X" just roll d100 keeping in mind that lower is usually better. I'm happy to roll for anyone who can't be bothered.

Now Rogue Trader is weird in how it uses modifiers. Instead of most games which either give primarily penalties for bad conditions, or uses a mix of bonuses and penalties to represent a range of situations, Rogue Trader primarily gives bonuses. So it might seem like having a 44% chance to hit with a gun seems like terrible odds for presumably the best shot on the crew, but you have to keep in mind you're adding +20 just for aiming, +10 for being within yelling range, and maybe another +10 from equipment or talent bonuses, and suddenly you're looking at 84%. Starting character routinely have target numbers for things they're especially good at in the 120 range.

I don't expect anyone to keep track of these modifiers; I have pretty solid system mastery so I know most of them off the top of my head (certainly all the combat ones, and the rest is more GM fiaty). Just keep in mind that your base target number (which is equal to the attribute associated with the skill) is usually going to be much lower than your effective target number.

Edit: Oh, also, OOC commentary can be put in blue, but please try to keep it to game-relevant stuff in the thread. We should start a communal PM for running commentary and jokes.
