Let's Play Raid: Shadow Legends - This thread is sponsored by Audible

As a way to combat the plague of Raid: Shadow Legends sponsorships, there is this extension for Chrome/Chromium/Firefox called SponsorBlock. It will skip the part of the video which contains the sponsor plug, as long as it's in the database. If it's not, you can add it yourself, so that you can save other people's time watching the video.

The only times I enjoy Raid: Shadow Legends ads are where Rebeltaxi or Internet Historian throw a reference to it in a totally different ad because they know how fucking awful Raid ads are.

Imagine if Manscaping paid as much as Raid for advertising so on everyone's Youtube channels. You would get the same jokes of the host needing to shave their pubes but censoring themselves for the public.

Not sure if it’s in the native YouTube app (I use a modified version on my phone) but the skip-10-seconds button works wonders on sponsorships. I hear an ad, I just tap the screen a couple times, listen and repeat until the ad’s done.

Oh I'm perfectly aware. Still, I like seeing what other site users have to say about it in terms of their own personal experiences.
Epic Warning: SUPER WALL OF TEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's an honest opinion as someone who plays gacha games ( i do play gacha while commuting )

Play Rai.... Nah I can't do this....

Anyway, as far as core gameplay goes, it is the same as other gacha RPG goes. It has all the same trappings as other gacha RPGs, gacha roll for the equipment and champions, level the equipment and champions, limit break their levels and go through the story and participate in PVP to get rewards

As for the story, it is basically the generic western fantasy epic. Nothing amazing, not too shabby either.

How does it compare to the gacha RPG game I play?? I play FGO so, my criticisms will be based on how I enjoy FGO
Disclaimer: I have only put 20 hours in Raid:Shadow Legends, and logged in 540 days in FGO
1. Champions(Raid) / Servants (FGO)
In Raid, basically you have to roll for the highest rated champions, and to limit break them, you have to fuse same rated champions. Many Champions are just plain useless, so they become fodder for sacrifice or fusion. That's the same when you get duplicates of the champions. I would say more than half of the cast is plain useless.

In FGO, even the lowest servant has its specific uses and have their niche gimmick. For example, Arash, the lowest ranked servant has a super that kills himself but deals huge damage to enemies, which is usefull for farming quickly. king Arthur, is a 5 star servant so it has high stats, but the evil king Arthur is a 4 star servant, but its super deals higher damage than the 5 star king Arthur. So, yeah, every servant has its niche that has its uses, and its up to you how to use it. also, the game gives away useful 4 star servants during events as long as you grind for it, and most of the time, they're very useful, like Bathory Brave and Summer Ishtar.

2. Battles
I have to admit it, I haven't delved enough in Raid to fully understand its battle system and its depth, but as far as my experience goes so far, its as basic as old FF or DQ games. As long as stats are high enough, you can win even in autobattle. so you can play it while doing something else and glance once in a while

In FGO, the battle system is a card battle system where you pick 3 cards from a deck, because of this, there is no autobattle, so grinding is tedious, most of the discussion in the community is making a team that can quickly farm a stage in 3 turns. There is also a class affinity system, so there is more depth to it than just going for the highest damage numbers. also, there is a cost system, so you are never going to be able to fill your party with highest rank servants, so you have to strategize a little bit.

3. Pacing/grinding/monetization
I'll start with FGO first. In FGO, the only thing you can buy is saint quartz, which is the currency used to roll for the servants.

In Raid:Shadow Legends. I would say, the game pacing is pretty slow. Your Champions level up very slowly (I mean in comparison with other gacha RPG games and FGO). and then the game basically says, you want to level up quickly? buy our special pack to increase the rate of EXP you get and other buffs, weapons and armor. then you can also buy shards for real money to use to summon high ranking champions.
Also, Raid has PVP in it, where highest rank players gets huge rewards, so you'll never beat the whales who spends so much money in it. FGO doesn't have it.

For me, I feel that Raid is really more grindy than FGO because there's so much to level up. And the real meat of the content is PVP.

4. Story
Both of the game's story are presented in VN style, so don't expect 3d cg cinematics.
I haven't delved really deep in Raid, so I can't comment on how good the story really is, but the story so far is competent enough.

FGO, however has a very weak opening. you have to read through 2 hours of text in the beginning, to get through the story. And most of the main story is a magical bus ride style story. The story only got serious when you get to Camelot. Now part 2 is starting and everything is suffering.
However, FGO story shines in events. These are basically fun short stories that are not-canon to the main story and the best time to grind for materials and exp. some are real tearjerkers and heart warming like Jeanne d'Arc christmas event, some are funny like the Paul Bunyan event.

In the end, I uninstalled Raid after a month. It felt like playing Gundam Wars which is very grindy, tedious and just PVP focused. I would rather play Langrisser mobile over this.

It still amazes me that when it comes to gachas the chinks are seemingly the most benevolent, while western developers are predatory to the nth degree

I think the straw that broke the camel's back that made me uninstall is the fucking constant in-game pop up ads urging you to buy packs.

At least FGO has the balls to shit on the player and the game.

I get the sense that Asian gachas are more about getting the player involved in the universe and buying $300 statues of their waifus and every single manga and Blu-ray box set, while Western ones only have the game on its own to sell.

GBF>FGO

Haha jk all gacha games are a huge waste of time and money don't make the same mistake unless it's Raid Shadow Legends, one of the biggest mobile role-playing games of 2019 and it's totally free! Currently almost 10 million users have joined Raid over the last six months, and it's one of the most impressive games in its class with detailed models, environments and smooth 60 frames per second animations! All the champions in the game can be customized with unique gear that changes your strategic buffs and abilities! The dungeon bosses have some ridiculous skills of their own and figuring out the perfect party and strategy to overtake them's a lot of fun! Currently with over 300,000 reviews, Raid has almost a perfect score on the Play Store! The community is growing fast and the highly anticipated new faction wars feature is now live, you might even find my squad out there in the arena! It's easier to start now than ever with rates program for new players you get a new daily login reward for the first 90 days that you play in the game! So what are you waiting for?

The merch helps, but most of the bigger games make millions of dollars a month just off of IAP, and the biggest make tens of millions. Gacha games are big business in Japan.

Most of what makes the games seem more benevolent is that a combination of laws and social pressure pretty much forced them to be that way. There was a whole moral panic about gacha games getting young Japanese kids hooked on gambling. Which, in fairness, is a bit of an issue; gambling addiction in Japan is way, way more prevalent than in most other industrialized nations.

This game is basically perfect. I can't tell you the number of times I've been playing a game like Witcher 3, Darksouls, or Final Fantasy 6 and thought to myself, "what's with all this fucking gameplay?, Why can't I just push a button and watch the game play like a poorly rendered cut scene?" Raid does that! No more of that annoying playing the game aspect of games.

Another problem is when I buy a game it's a complete game. Why should I be allowed to unlock things, and beat the game through time and effort? This game takes care of that too! I can just throw money at the game until I win!

Finally there's the problem that the games I play rarely crash (unless it's from Bethesda.) How do I know how to stop and use the restroom or get a drink unless the game crashes? Raid takes care of this for you too! It crashes before and after every battle and every time you click on any menu. Plenty of opportunities to take care of your bodies basic functions.

10,000,000/10 a must play for all ages!
