The first "Let's Player" was every single person who played video games from 1970 to the early 2000s. The reason it works is because it's familiar to every single video game player on planet earth.

Any two people who have ever hung out and played a single player game is what is a "let's play". Ever just hang out with your older brother while he was playing "Resident Evil"? Let's play. Ever sit on the couch and hang out while your girlfriend while she played some Final Fantasy game? Let's play. There's an entire generation of kids who grew up watching a parent, cool uncle, or cousin play a video game.

The real "inventor" of Let's play (as far as SA) is whatever poster wrote a post asking for someone to recreate that feeling, to which slowbeef just did "I did the thing you asked for". He's just the guy who saw it making money and was mad it wasn't him doing it.

A fun Pokemon "LP" was Satan's Accountants and Friends playing Blue. It amounted to a circle jerk of forum regulars shitting on each other and the rest of the subforum (redchocobo/somecoolguy) while grinding for Charizard in the first patch of grass, everyone was also reading an awful self-insert story of an autist in fantasy Egypt with his childhood sweetheart. This made me curious if Oyster was still posting on the forum since he was a guest and one of the first posts I see when I look through his history is him saying he lost a kid a few years ago which was not at all what I expected to see.

The Retsu of the first part of this legendary LP is a classic. Weirdly enough he managed to rope a real girl into doing the voice of his imaginary girlfriend halfway through it. MageKnight knows how to get the ladies.

Here's a quick rundown:

ritcheyz' claim to fame in the lp subforum was a full run of Dead Rising 2, a thoroughly enjoyable experience thanks to the presence of skoolmunkee. it was easy to think kindly of him - soft spoken, boundaried, good chemistry with his co-op partner, and a decent level of showmanship. i never followed what anyone did outside the forum, but even back then, following the LP, there were rumblings of what was going on with his life as posted on his twitter account. apparently he made threats towards skoolmunkee, geop, and others. don't quote me on the last two, only that he and skool had a falling out that isn't talked about. And, that he ruined his standing with everyone else for it.

back then, ritcheyz made it clear he was on and off medication. i'm certainly misremembering that a bit, though, but i can tell you for sure that he was seriously mentally ill and not going about it in a healthy, sane way. i couldn't look at the full list of pictures you pasted here. just the first few were enough horror. i don't have very strong feelings for him, but his situation is nothing short of traumatizing and i would hope society steps in if there really is no one else.

as for skoolmunkee, she's a bit scatterbrained but i've interacted with her a couple times and i can tell she'd be fun to work with. i never got the impression that she fell off the wagon.
