Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I don't understand the justification for setting up a new website where you're not allowed to disagree with the leadership. There's no reason Voidburger and the others can't just maintain their own youtubes and block comments. This is redundant.

I mean, I know the real reason is that they feel legitimized by having a Vichy-SA they can be the "leaders" of, but I'm sure they're too passive aggressive to admit it so I just wonder what excuse they'd give if pressed.

They would say it's so they can have an alternative to SA for free speech or some shit, and alternatively to have a repository for "all the good LPs" to be in one place. They kind of did the same thing with the LP Archives but the archives just link back to SA.

I suppose they'll try to keep up the goon tradition of "we invented lets play, only we are allowed to do it". Retroactively amended to say LPs that continue on the real SA aren't legitimate anymore because SA were a bunch of meanie doodoo heads to Voidburger.

I'm still not sure why DDoS protection is a concern for this new forum. Why would anyone want to try and take down a Let's Play forum?
They're freaking out over DDoS protection (and security measures in general) because there's a concern that SA members might come on there to "bully" the members, a word which here means "point out the facts of what happened, challenging the narrative of Let's Play Zone members being victims who were unfairly harassed and banned for no reason."

The LP Archive actually does host the entirety of completed text/screenshot LPs on the LP Archive's servers (as well as a link to the original SA thread).
I'm skeptical that that's her. She's never had a real job besides the diamond industry thing that she quickly quit and she seems too meek a person to be a heavy drug user.

I'm sure SA will remember to take frequent breaks to call us monsters for doing the exact same thing to them.

Yeah, by that point the VoidBurger identity already existed for a while.

Meanwhile, our resident businesswoman engages in some newsjacking of recent Pewdiepie drama to desperately shill her brand. Bonus Jontron mentions.

In case you're not up to date on shitty youtber drama: a month ago Pewdiepie paid two Indians to wear a sign saying "Kill all Jews" not thinking they would actually do it. They did, controversy happened, he deleted the video and apologized.
Now, a month later, the Washington Journal contacted Disney to tell them Pewdiepie made this video. Disney immediately removes him from MakerStudios, their agency for all the big youtubers, and cancels his stuff. Now every news site is screaming "ANTISEMITIC MAN GETS FIRED FROM DISNEY".

The biggest laugh I get from this is that the media has been reduced to reporting Youtubers to big bad Disney for clicks.

Jesus christ, people with actual talent get views because we like their content, not because we agree with their politics. I don't think she even realizes this is the same as asking for pity views.

I'm skeptical that that's her. She's never had a real job besides the diamond industry thing that she quickly quit and she seems too meek a person to be a heavy drug user.

"Amphetamine salts" is the only technically hard drug that person had listed, and 20 mg twice a day is a low dose, and I would assume she's got a prescription because if she's taking it daily that would be a 60 day prescription which would be expensive as fuck if you were actually buying pills. One hallmark of ADD is actually poor impulse control and decision making skills, which she has shown. Quitting your well-paying office job to do LPs on the internet, because you dont like to commute on the train with the rest of the "rat racers" is a pretty impulsive, bad decision, for example.

She mentions taking phenibut as a replacement for effexor. I had to look up a lot of those things she's taking but apparently phenibut is a sort of unregulated "alternative" drug that is meant to help with depression, focus, and anxiety. I dont know exactly what a nootropic is, but Ive heard of the term and as far as I gather it's kind of meant to be an alternative to stimulants. College kids take them and when I was a goon, I used to lurk their drug forum every now and then and they would have threads for the "latest" drugs so you could get them before any attention started being paid to them, and they had a thread on nootropics and other alternative "mind enhancing" drugs.

Without powerlevelling too, too much, the medicines she lists there are actually a standard cocktail of medicines prescribed for ADHD: a stimulant, an antidepressant, a mood stabilizer, and an anxiety pill. Not all of them are real "prescribed" medicines, because I assume she actually doesnt have real insurance since she's made LP her livelihood -- but that's what her little cocktail is intended to treat. The rest of them are vitamins and weird holistic-ish alternative medicines. For instance, she's taking valerian root as a "sleep aid" because presumably all the other pseudo-stimulant medicines she takes means she doesn't sleep well, but I've never had problems sleeping with ritalin or vyvanse; I guess if you put on music or TV or something you can focus on that as white noise rather than having your thoughts bounce around in your head.

Honestly, knowing what I know of that sort of shit, her personality matches up with someone who has something like ADHD and is kind of ineffectively treating it on their own under the table and especially with weird alternative medicines where you dont know how they're going to interact with each other.

Ive never tried psychedelics personally because Im sometimes honestly afraid of what Ill find locked away in my own head, but Voidburger does strike me as the type of person who would be really into getting high recreationally. Chip, not so much, but in that post the person says it was their first shroom trip on their own, whether that means if was their first solo trip or their first trip ever, and they did it alone. But usually people who are inexperienced with psychedelics ask a friend to be a sitter for them, in my experience, so she could have asked Chip to sit for her. From being one of those sitters, mushrooms are not necessarily a super powerful trip, so it's possible she's done it before and moved on to experimenting on her own.
