Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

slowbeef's streams have gotten... weird(er) lately..
I think it's the SJW-flavored attempt at post-modern deconstruction "art." Problem is that SJWs tend to be young and not terribly bright, so most don't know what the fuck they're doing. It's all just weirdness for the sake of weirdness, with bland and obvious commentary hiding just underneath the surface being presented in a patronizing way that even a geriatric dog can see past.

This also perfectly describes Family Guy, which I'm sure they all love so that makes sense.

There was a huge series of layoffs at Volition today and Chip has lost his job. Apparently this comes only days after he got a new car so he's asking for Patreon donations.

Maybe Chip shouldn't have bought a new car when he saw how absolutely shit the reviews for Agents of Mayhem were.

I mean, this is his own dumbass fault for not keeping an eye on the state of his own company. I'm smart enough not to buy a new house when my company made a tremendously bad business decision and layoffs are inevitable. I don't even work in the video game industry and even I know that layoffs follow a flop 90% of the time.

I kinda like Chip, but anyone who gives him a penny for this is as big of a dumbass as he was.

Haha, I forgot about that game. They were marketing it as a spiritual successor to Saints Row. Looked pretty bland tbh.

The reason he bought a new car is actually because his old car kicked the bucket the other week. It's just a shitty coincidence.

Too late. Up by $100 in 45 minutes. But in fairness to him he said he'll use this spare time to catch on his LPs so it's not as if he's scamming anyone.

I was sooooo expecting this. "Video Editor" is probably the most unnecessary job you can have around when your company is tanking. Especially when, when the company isn't developing games, the guy just does (bad) streams with other Volition employees that no one really watches.
I'm sure the thousands of Patreon dollars for sitting around doing nothing won't hurt though.

OK, fair enough. Still, this new expectation of people giving you money just because life kicked you in the ass is annoying as fuck. I was saving up for grad school, got into an accident, and had to buy a new car about a decade ago. I didn't set up a GoFundMe or whatever, I sucked it up.

The key phrase here is "about a decade ago." Hipster welfare is all the rage now, son!

Crowdfunding also wasn't a thing back then. I'll defend Chip here and reason that if you have a legal means of relieving financial stress on yourself in between jobs, it's rational to exploit it regardless of if those stresses are directly or indirectly your fault. Patreon becomes a problem when it's abused to get something for nothing, but if Chip's going to spend more time producing the content it pays for until he gets a new job I think it's fine.

He has kept it open despite not producing anything in months (one of my frequent hangups with how Patreon is used) but at least he had an excuse. Most people won't think too hard about free money.

This is the hilarious thing to me. He was so proud of his job and everybody held him up as a true let's player success story but anybody with two braincells to rub together could see how his career there was not going to last.

To start, he worked at Volition. A company that has roughly one intellectual property that anybody knows about and the interest in it died down roughly six years ago. Each Saints Row game got progressively worse and you could see them trying to reach further and further each time and never getting where they wanted to be. I don't think anybody thought that Agents of Mayhem was going to be any good either, the writing was on the wall.

His job was "Video Editor" but he wasn't even the main editor for their trailers or anything. The dude was a livestream personality and managed their YouTube page. He did practically nothing for them that couldn't just be delegated to somebody else. I remember popping in on the Twitch at some point and it had like less than a hundred people watching.

There's no way that his job was going to last and I would really doubt if he could get something similar at another company. The people who do video editing often have a lot of other tasks they cover too and my understanding is that he's pigeonholed into only that. He was the definition of expendable and that's a dangerous thing to be when the company you work for is dying.

That's too bad for Chip. I hope he lands on his feet and gets an okay gig. I don't know anything about his specific skillset but maybe he can make money freelancing or something. Might turn out better for him to be self-employed.

The guy has kept me entertained for years, in fact his MGS4 lp was the first lp I ever watched. I got a soft spot for the guy, and hell I got one for Ironicus too. In fact I feel so conflicted about joking even tangentially at his expense that I have to spoiler it out of shame and empathy:

Now how will Voidburger support herself?

As well as these things, the guy that trained him left the company after working there a while and Chip was given the guy's job. I'm just speculating, but I think they wanted someone cheaper than the old guy so they took on Chip and made the old guy train his replacement.
He was just cheap labour.

Ironically, VoidBurger is now the only one of them that has a job.
I'm interested to see how their relationship will play out now that the power dynamics have changed; VoidBurger is an unstable nutcase with depression/anxiety attacks and she's now going to be supporting the two of them (unless their Patreons bring in more money or Chip finds a new job).

I'm expecting some anti-Capitalism and "America is fascist!" meltdowns from her in the near future.

Well he has a fan base and yes while fan bases are ridiculous so is money. So it's only natural that they go hand in hand. Maybe you could have gotten some moola during those retsupurae video stints.

So Kiwi Farms had some technical problems a few days back and ate my last post, so I'll make it again (with updates):

So, I've always been of the opinion that Slowbeef is indeed a lolcow, something that's been disputed in this thread. I'd like to add Slowbeef thinking that President Trump should be banned from twitter for using it to "declare war" on North Korea as further evidence to validate my opinion:

@jack and @biz are the accounts of twitter staff members, for anyone wondering.
Quickly, Slowbeef!: you need to also tweet #bantrump, do you want a fucking war to start?!
Note that these anti-Trump tweets are so retarded that they have less than 2000 likes, despite the fact that pretty much anything anti-Trump that goes viral gets at least 10,000; this is so retarded that not even the throngs of mouth breathers that mindlessly like anti-Trump nonesense will share it.
Slowbeef does market research:

Slowbeef is apparently still attending college/university and receiving valuable tutelage from his professor, Dr Magoo:

Slowbeef also retweeted a screenshot of Lowtax's recent twitter ban (I didn't bother screenshoting it). I'm not sure what Slowbeef is trying to say with this (possibly he's again pointing out that he thinks Trump should be banned and it's weird that he isn't whilst Lowtax is?)

So what video editing software were they using for years before Chip was hired there? And I guess the plan from here-on-out is just keeping the software open forever and never shutting down or restarting the OS?

These cherry-picked headlines certainly prove (that leftists are dishonest fucktwats)

These retards are front-and-centre whenever a Muslims slaughters people, screeching about "not all Muslims" and how they're forced to commit violence because of "western imperialism" and Islamophobia.
upload_2017-10-4_1-45-18.png

Here in the UK we also have mass rape committed by Muslim immigrants on an industrial scale, Muslims openly preaching violence without repercussion and native people being arrested for tweets. We also had a bunch of people murdered in the streets by Muslims on several recent occasions, so when are we banning Muslims from the UK?
I hate it when slimy leftist trash uses Britain as an example of being better than America; leftists sold out the people of Britain generations ago.

And, of course, VoidBurger also wants Trump banned from twitter.

Let's be real here, none of the people asking for Trump to be banned from Twitter actually want that. They spend all day monitoring Trump's account and immediately jump on any new tweets to say something like "Fuck you Trump!" for the free easy retweets and likes. People like Slowbeef and Voidburger's dedicate half their feed to just complaining about Trump for easy jokes.

We are talking about people with zero foresight when it comes to their actions, though. In the spur of the moment, they probably do genuinely want him banned, but would then soon realize that their life is that little bit emptier if he was banned.

They want Trump banned because they’re mad he's President and banning him from twitter would give them a victory when all they’re used to is being losers. Twitter will never ban the President regardless of who they are or what they do as much as it irritates liberal fee fees.

Edit: Also they think twitter, and the internet really, are only for leftists/liberals. Conservatives shouldn’t have a voice.
