Hey guys. It's been a while since I last checked on my favorite tranny on this site, so as one of Voidy's biggest fans I decided to watch through her Giant Bomb content, to see how she's been handling her new job six months after her first collab with them. I unfortunately only half-listened to the Bombcasts she's in, because frankly those are a bit too boring even for me and VB barely says anything relevant there anyway, so I'll just focus mostly on the videos where she has a more prominent role.
Spoiler alert, she's not doing too well.
Spoiler alert, she's not doing too well.
These were the very first videos she put out on the site and THE show she announced on her youtube channel, where the premise is Void sitting in front of a green screen and doing a heavily scripted rant for half an hour. There are only two of these out on Youtube and the most recent one was five months ago. There's nothing else about it on youtube or the GB website, so this series was immediately discontinued despite how excited VB was about it.
And looking at the videos, it's pretty easy to understand why. The topics she chose are painfully uninteresting (the first one being a rant about the first Mario Movie from 1993 and the second a defense of walking simulator games that comes a good ten years too late) and she spends the entire video trying to put on a calm, chill voice that really just sounds morose as fuck so it's hard to even use those videos as background noise. Jess also has zero charisma and speaks in a pretty condescending tone even when she doesn't mean to, so she can't carry a half-hour video just by herself. It feels like she watched a few of NakeyJakey's videos and immediately decided she could do it just as well.
The first video also has a couple of unfunny skits, which further proves her sense of humor, just like her mental age, has advanced very little since 2010. Those skits also give us this masterful shot which somehow is the most interesting thing in the entire show. The saddest part of all this is that these two videos are the least terrible ones she's put out.

Holy shit, if you think that first show had a boring premise you're going to love this one. For this show Void gets a co-host to play Silent Hill (of course) for the first time while she laughs like a horse and provides very little commentary. That's it. "Spotlights" featuring the "best" moments are released on youtube, but you can also choose to watch the whole barely edited hour-long videos on Giant Bomb, if you're willing to play a yearly subscription fee of $50. The spotlights help a lot, in that they show the peak gamer humor in these videos. Surely after watching these intense moments of high octane entertainment you'll want to get yourself a subscription to watch the whole thing, right?
Look, I don't need to tell you why these are bad. If Void fails to be interesting when she has prep time and a script to work with, I don't know what makes her think she can be funny and witty and interesting on the spot. I can only assume her GOTI syndrome causes her to believe she's far more entertaining than she actually is.
The spotlights posted on youtube have been consistantly getting the lowest numbers on the channel every week since they started coming out, so I doubt they'll keep it going after the first game is done this week. It's a real shame that the internet won't get a chance to see Voidburger commentate a let's play of Silent Hill 2 for the tenth time.

At this point the issues with her content might be pretty clear. Jess is incapable of carrying a show on her own, and has zero chemistry with nearly every other member of the team. Jan is the one she's seen with most often, but whenever they're together in a video it seems like Jess can do little more than make awkward attempts to continue jokes he starts.
To be completely honest, it's not like the rest of the Giant Bomb crew oozes with charisma or anything, they're honestly all kinda bland. But jesus christ, VB outdoes them all. Her insistance on talking about games and movies nobody cares about, as well as her obsession towards the first two SH games, are both traits that are tolerable for a niche Let's Player but don't really work well with a gaming news website. I don't want to say she's only in the team because they desperately needed a token female for their gaming sections, but I'm going to heavily imply it.
Overall it's a shame, I'm pretty disappointed. You'd think the mastermind behind hilarious gamer humor such as this would be great at improv comedy and commentary.
