Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

VoidBurger quote from BlueSpark's imgur screenshots:
I love the hypocrisy in VoidBurger, who rants incessently about people who don't want refugees flooding the west being evil bigots, getting offended at someone she thinks is an outsider criticizing her home city and then uses "you aren't from here, your opinion doesn't matter!" as an argument.

Isnt she a transplant as well, anyway? I could be wrong, but your quote about her moving away from the home city for college, I got the feeling that she was from some small town--like didn't she kind of drop hints that Chip was her childhood friend?

Especially after all that stuff about how much she hated New York.

Also, there's another incident I left out of my last post due to image limitations:

For context, this image was titled "The woman who started ShirtStorm was invited to talk at Google Ideas about 'Fighting Online Abuse.'"

1. Add "trying to escape from a conversation when it starts to go in a direction she doesn't like" to the list.
2. I left in the last reply to show that many of the replies on Imgur in general are surprisingly varied - a fair few people agree with her.

"I don't even wanna talk about this anymore"
"I'm losing the argument because people are posting evidence that disproves my lies, time to throw a tantrum and imply that responding to the argument I started is beneath me!"

I think that she's a born and raised New Yorker iirc. I don't think her and Chip are childhood friends, VoidBurger has talked to Chip about her childhood on a bunch of streams they've done and he was apparently learning things about her for the first time (and Chip isn't from New York).

Are you getting VoidBurger confused with General Ironicus? General Ironicus and Chip are childhood friends (they've talked about going to highschool together, I'm not sure if they knew each other before that).

She is a bit of a coward. I remember during one of the retsucasts(?) she goes on about how a group in the same bus as hers were making asian(?) jokes, but one of the friends was asian and he/she didn't care.
She doesn't say anything to the actual group however since she's not online where she can run away if they actually argue or debate with her. So the fight against racism only seems to pertain to twitter and imgur I guess.
Not that I could see her being able to actually have a sensible conversation instead of some snarky and condescending bullshit.

This is why she's OK with people screencapping and mocking JonTron, but not when we do it to her. It's kind of an extension of the olden "Oppression Olympics" concept.
The reason it's bullshit is that the definition of "power" changes to suit her narrative. People like her don't target bad guys who have power - they find someone they don't like, then rewrite the rules to explain that person has too much power somehow...

Don't blame on racism what can much more easily be blamed on classism.
...But when it's pointed out the amazing level of power she has because she doesn't even need to work to live, it'll always go silent. You'll get "I don't even wanna talk about this anymore". It's amazing how much these people will circle the wagons to prevent any talk of their own wealth and upbringing from becoming germaine to the conversation because they all come from overprivileged backgrounds. I don't think they understand "ask dad for money" is not commonly an option for most 30 year olds.

Hell, there's those of us where "ask mom/dad for money" wasn't an option at 12, let alone 30.

I always find it amusing when NEETs are the ones talking about the "superior future" when in any superior future they'd be forced to get off their ass and contribute to society via more than Twitter posts and Imgur comments.

I think in their mind - in the emotional, reptile part - they just don't comprehend the idea that the free ride won't always be forthcoming. They do not make that connection that someone else has to pay for it or the obvious unfairness of their entitlement.

Apropos of nothing, even after reading all of this stuff about how VoidBurger is a cunt, I feel the need to say The Dark Ids' Limbo of the Lost LP remains a favorite of mine from SA, and I remember losing my shit reading it.

Written LPs seem so much more labor-intensive and yet also a lot easier to pull off being funny in them because you can go back over your post, re-read and edit until you're satisfied, rather than flying by the seat of your pants and hoping you manage to land a zinger while recording. And hell, maybe I am a little nostalgic for an earlier era of internet humor where you had to convey the funny just through text and pictures.

It feels... purer, somehow.

The way I feel about screenshot LPs is that it's really really easy to do a shitty one, but if you manage to pull it off, it's almost always better than a video LP.

Also, not to derail this thread too much, but I'm just gonna throw out my recommendation(s) for the best SSLP of all time:
https://lparchive.org/Ultima-4-5-and-6/
https://lparchive.org/Ultima-VII-The-Black-Gate/
https://lparchive.org/Ultima-VII-Part-2-Serpent-Isle/

They're all by the same guy and basically continue one giant story. It doesn't really get good until towards the end of Ultima 5, but after that point every update is just really fantastic.

Edit: Shit, I forgot this one

https://lparchive.org/Martian-Dreams/

iirc it falls between Ultima 6 and Ultima 7.

Also apropos of nothing, it was weird finding out TDI's job was doing tech support for a PMC.

My fav noe has always been Chewbots Animal Crossing LP

Jerusalem's SSLP's of both GTA: San Andreas and Medieval II: Total War are very well written and a blast to read in general (though the GTA one ventures a bit into headcanon at times).

I also have a soft spot for the SSLP of Half-Life: Opposing Force written from the viewpoint of some OSHA grunt (basically the main gist of it is that it points out the many ways the level design violates OSHA safety regulations and cites the exact codes they all violate so you can look them up for yourself and actually learn something in the process)

Does anyone know what happened to DJB's XIN riffs ? They were my favorite thing hes done but theyve seen to have vanished so (shrug)

Some people would keep commenting that he was trying to copy Chip and Ironicus's shtick (Even though both of them recorded the last two episodes with him), but I can't say for sure whether he deleted those videos because of those comments, because he just didn't like how the videos turned out or a mix of both. It's still a shame that there doesn't seem to be a reupload of them anywhere on the internet, I honestly thought they were pretty funny.
