There really is an appetite for edginess, especially on YouTube. Edgy content makers usually have a very loyal fanbase, unlike a lot of fluffy social justice channels that seem to attract a very fickle audience.

Social justice in practice becomes some sort of weird hyper politness, without the british tradition of being a hateful prick while pretending to be polite it's hard to be particulary charismatic when you're second guessing everything you say.

Why do they bother to do these? They get less than a thousand views apiece and all 10 or so of the comments are idiots asking them for Saints Row 5 who clearly don't care about the content. Is this what Chip gets paid the "big bucks" for?

When he had this job the last time he had a title that was something like "assistant video editor" or something similar, so presumably he edits videos for them like trailers or whatever. I don't follow Volition so I've no idea what they've done lately, but if they have gameplay footage out to advertise their games Chip probably has a hand in it.

It's probably something they have him do on the side when there aren't videos to edit - trying to get some type of community engagement going.

It isn't crazy - a lot of MCNs/studios/etc have employees try some level of engaging, on-brand content during downtime/for promotional stuff (ex - Rooster Teeth has a streaming division and you'll routinely see voice actors participating in it and Rockstar's Lazlow has all kinds of weird media engagement through his career)

That said, I don't think Volition is a large enough brand (or a brand that has much of a following post Saints Row 4/Agents of Mayhem) to build an audience. Chipcheezum (or Let's Plays in general) is also not the man who can build a large audience so it's never going to gain much traction. Chip doesn't have any "built in" audience as his videos don't get very many views (sub 10k over a months) so there are very few people he can drag over to volition's channel.

I remember one halloween stream they played some VHS game. And they had a really hot chick there. I only mention this because if I were Volition (and not trying to cater to the SJW crowd) they could've used her more in the streams. But thrn ShriekBurger would get offended.

I watched one or two of the streams when they'd play an old beta/unreleased game, but outside of that I can't really see the appeal. It's not a frequent enough thing to count as a traditional LP/stream series and because it is a corporate thing you can't really do a free style fun stream of a bad game. Because it is live, it also takes away one of the big draws of Chip's LP series (when he feels like putting effort into them) which is having edited videos showing off different ways to do a fight or different easter eggs and what not.

That being said, it isn't necessarily a bad idea they just need a better format/more unique draw.

Seems around Gamergate time he made a Subreddit and approximately 20 or so threads where he has strawman meltdowns at absolutely no one. Check the page out, it's basically 2 pages of threads with barely any comments or upvotes where he ironically repeats GG talking points to no one in particular.
Also his latest reddit post is "harassing"(that's what they'd call it anyway) a rando woman for misremembering something and making fun of his Sonic 06 skills.
