This thread is place to keep my Let's play autism contained to a single thread. Like the Ao Oni one that came before it, but for different games.
The First game planned is.
A EU only game. Very loosely based on the 1999 movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis of all people. The movie isn't that bad. Worth a watch if you want to turn your brain off, but nothing too special.
This game on the other hand. Ohhh boy, it's a stinker of a game. Thankfully very short as well.
I will be playing this on DuckBox emulator, as you can enhance the graphics a lot, and make it look bearable.
Here a long play of what it normally looks like.
And here's a gif from what it looks like for me.
According to Wikapedia, Cryo Interactive, both developed and published the game.
If you wondering why that name sounds a bit familiar. Civvie11 covered another game they published
Here the intro that plays when you first boot the game up.
Doing something a bit odd this time around for me. Recording a video for this (no commentary just pure gameplay) and then taking screenshots, and gifs out of it. Then going back and supplementing with extra screenshots from outside the video if need be.
I will also link the video on youtube in the post, encase any of you don't give two shits about my inane ramblings and just want to see and hear the game in action.
My Next post will be The first update.
So has any of you ever heard of the movie, and or game before?
Virus: It's aware update 1: Only way to be looser based, is to add "based on a true story" to the game.
These background images are taken directly from the movie.
This is about as all the game has in common with the movie setting. There was a boat, something EVIL from outer space infected it computer systems.
So they cyborgs?
That's right we start off with a sewer level. Let me tell you, if this is considered "safest way" I hate to see how hard the other ways would be.
Here the first level's music ripped from the game. "Enjoy"
So on the hud, we have your basic stuff. HP bar, Inf ammo gun, and a taser that acts less like a real life taser, and more like a bootleg Syphon Filter taser.
You might wonder what the yellow bar under the Ammo is. We do have a second gun, that bar shows how many clips we have left. We get more into that later.
Here is our first enemy. They move way to fast to see what they look like well, and jump and explode when you get near you
Thanks to the power of duck station.
It's a THE THING head crab.
Are we fighting cyborgs or the fucking thing?
Further along we find our first opening door, but the green panel is sparking blue. Getting close to it.
Our partner will come out of nowhere.
How does he even know this?
Guess how many times This "puzzle is used" Far less then you might expect.
He then shoots it open for us.
Here a speed running tip(hah) You can shoot the button before trigger this cut scene to skip it.
When we get inside the door shuts behind us and this gas (white lines) begin to fill the room(It doesn't) Slowly hurting us in like 5 seconds.
All you need to do is press the green button and ta da you beat the trap. This virus is fucking awful at killing. How the hell did it take over this hotel?
Oh right, it has "cyborgs".
As you can see the taser just keeps a enemy in place, while you can still move(didn't need to) and shoot during it. It doesn't do damage, nor can you hold the button to burn them. That be too cool.
This is the basic of basic mooks for this game. I have no idea if any of these enemies have official names. But I am just going to call it Shawn.
Don't mind the blood and Joan being inside of it. I had to go back into the game with cheats on to get a good picture of this fucker.
After dealing with those two, we start getting shot at from the side.
That lighting is powering a Cyborg( really just a fancy human turret). A few shots at the thing on the right makes it disappear.
This is what it looks like close up. You can't get a good look with out cheats.
Killing it, an the shawns does this.
The game has a real nasty habit of teleporting you, and enemies for cut scenes.
Two more shawns spawn on the otherside of the room, that not counting the one that spawns behind us off screen.
You can easily just skip these guys by rushing the ladder.
Close up we look like a god damn monster when we climb.
Maybe the real evil WAS US ALL ALONG.
You starting to see the pattern yet? This how this game plays for most of it. You to room, kill things, go to next room, repeat. There are a few moments that are different, but we get to them when they happen.
Here a cool(debatable) hidden thing. If we turn around after killing those shawns 3 headcrabs will spawn one at a time behind us.
Killing them.
has our cop friend show up, and do this.
That poor head crab wasn't even moving, and this evil cop turns with a gun pointed, and thanos snaps it. Of course there is a gunshot sound, but did any of you see a bullet?
So you shot it? YOU FUCKING SHOT SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T KNOW, AND WASN'T MOVING? Sure this place is infested with cyborgs, but maybe that was the only friendly one.
You monster.
Medkits fully heal you, and are super rare. Like there maybe 1-2 in the whole game. All given in cut scenes and used the second you get them .
More like Shitter.
As soon as we go up that ladder.
The game also likes to make you take damage with bullshit like this.
Thank god for save states.
You have to ignore the shawns in this room.
This johnny cab looking fucker here heal them with a taser shot( no idea how that works) if you damage the shawns too much. He also shoots at you.
This is what him healing them looks like. Killing them opens the way.
BY BLOWING A FUCKING FLOOR HATCH UP.
In the movie the evil virus
dies by a giant explosion.
I have no clue how these fucks can survive doing this.
And yes it teleports you like that.
After doing the deed
Shitter janky walks in.
This is how he walks, doesn't help he stopped fast.
Yeah, but I think it being blocked is a bigger problem .
Here a better look at shitter.
And us, we look like a fucking cyborg.
Ps1 can be ugly sometimes.
Hey remember that hole that exploded open?
Didn't know we was james, and this is silent hill.
only one way to make this better.
Shitter trying to talk Joan De shart out of joining the 41% viva hole.
We sadly don't die jumping down, but we are ambushed by 4 headcrabs. I hope you was holding backspace.
Did you catch that?
For a split second. He is just standing there. MENACINGLY
And two also spawn behind us.
Hey look a blue spark, I wonder what happen if we don't shoot it?
I Don't know what better. How goofy this looks with her flopping over before it even hits her, or how her body disappears a few seconds after.
Shooting it keeps you from dying. That might be a fate worse then death IMO.
on the other side we take a left and look a ladder.
Uh oh look out The cleaning looking sewer water.
AS long as you reach the ladder you wont die.
But what happens if you turn on inf HP cheat and get hit?
Can't blame the devs for that one, After all you need to cheat to see it.
Up the ladder is.
Another split second MENACINGLY STAND.
I like to call this guy Jason X.
Look at him. roided out Jason X.
This is how you beat him. You can see me using the second gun there. I don't think it does anymore damage then the inf ammo gun.
For your enjoy meant here a good song that is sadly not in this game.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHAT DOES IT EVEN MEAN?
A call back to before I guess. Joan being sassy(lol).
Then it just fades to black, and level 1 is over.
Only way to make it better is if you play
Right before the fade.
Next time, more jank, more noob trap damage, more bullshit.

Cryo did so much more. I can't hate on them despite being shit because they had ideas. They usually just didn't pan out but there was often something to them.
The game Civvie11 made a video about, From Dusk til Dawn, is just a cheap cash-grab reskin of The Devil Inside. That game is also shit but it had ideas. It was a... "reality tv" type of game, sort of like Smash TV with a hint of Manhunt before Manhunt. It's a third person game, the third person camera is an actual camera game(like Lakitu in Mario 64) and the camera man can die. There's bullet time before Max Payne, but it is obvious that it was an afterthought that was quickly cobbled together by devs that were impressed by the Max Payne trailer because it doesn't really have any function in the game other than being a checkbox feature.
They did lots of stuff. Adapted Ubik into a, uuuuh... I mean they tried something. Megarace was their smash hit during the CD-Rom era, that game is honestly impressive to this day.

I think I'm the only person on this forum that played that game. Maybe not. But I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on this forum that have made several posts about it! Honor and glory...
Yeah, I don't know why I'm still defending Cryo, I hate more or less everything they have done, but you know... If you do know please tell me because I don't!

Megarace was pretty huge at the time on PC and I think there was a kickstarter to get the hosts together for a new game. I'm not disputing what you say, but they did an impressive thing with that game even if it seems trivial now.
I'm not defending Cryo, I'm just saying they were interesting in a way.
edit: what I'm trying to say is that they often tried to do something different, and failed. Again and again. I admire them for trying.

!00% Got to admire the charm for wanting to keep trying something new, and doing it despite failing making good goods. The results not so much, they should be mocked for what awful games they ended up as.

Their games should be made fun of in a way because they made strange, strange decisions and it didn't work. In a very real way Cryo could be where Atari(corpse Infogrames, bigger than Cryo at the time) is now or even Ubisoft(Cryo was larger than Ubi at the time) if they didn't fuck it up consisently. Ubis Beyond Good & Evil is sort of like a Cryo game if competent people made it. But, you know... You should play their game Dreams.

Dreams into Reality. I would suggest the PC version in a (virtual) Win98 machine with software rendering. No hardware rendering/3d acceleration. It's one of the games I call "MMX as hell". I've long been intrigued by how it looks.
You guys like teasers? Here a "speed running" trick teaser. Update will be out sometime today or tonight.
I might also make a habit out of making a clip or two from the full video if I feel like a gif might not work. ( it was a problem with the first update)
