Level-5 has virtually halted operations in North America - Sources say Level-5 International America, Abby have been running with a "skeleton crew" since August 2019

Guess I'm never getting that Yokai Watch game on Switch then. 😭

Seriously, I never played Ni No Kuni or Snackworld, but the Yokai Watch games, particularly 2 and 3, were just lighthearted RPGs with tons of shit to do to keep you playing daily. They even had the audacity to change up the combat system, something most other RPG series never do. Yokai Watch 4 on Switch was set to be a dimension-hopping adventure with full 3D live action combat with all previous generations of Yokai patched in. And now it'll never be localized. Maybe if the workplace culture wasn't so toxic Level-5 NA wouldn't have ended like this. I remember seeing some terrible reviews posted from their Glassdoor page, but they seem to have been scrubbed. 🤔

lmao Japan needs to be protected and isolated. American culture is so toxic that it needs to be considered a quarantinable Biohazard. How fitting for the times. Fix your culture already yanks!
Except Japanese people don't buy console games in sustainable amounts.

If they strictly appealed to only the Japanese nothing would exist because they want mobile phone games and gatcha. The whole western hemisphere is where 90% of the sales happen.

Not only that but many Japanese business practices are very retarded, especially when it comes to pricing and believing that sales are bad. Japan also isn't this bastion of anti-woke nationalism. Japan from an economic standpoint is very connected to the US. That's where the phrase "If America Sneezes Japan gets a cold" comes from.

They don't like what China is doing with Id Pol infiltrations and will try to counter that in the future with their own. Hell places South Korea already has a fuckload of libtard shit due to K-Pop and they have the same level of ethnic majority in their country.

Nintendo will likely give them the GAMEFREAK treatment if it ensures they can keep a stranglehold on future Layton entries beyond mobile
Their latest game was on the 3ds, and it was about Layon's daughter. Don't give it a try though unless you can stomach the "GURL POWR" that oozes from it. Even her sidekick is a wimpering idiot.

I fucking loved their ps2 era games. Then they made White Knight Chronicles which was complete shit, and while the first Ni No Kuni was pretty good the second was just meh and didn't seem to know what it wanted to be.

On portable it was similar, their first Layton trilogy was fantastic, the second trilogy felt pointless and repetitive with the puzzle. The last one they made was just plain bad.

Hopefully they improve this generation.

Hope they continue bringing their games over to the US somehow. I need my Dragon Quest 8 crafting systems!

Rogue Galaxy is their best game.

Will this affect the English releases for the Layton mobile games? I've always really liked that series, and I was enjoying replaying the first trilogy they've rereleased in HD (:_( I was hoping they'd put the second trilogy on mobile too (even if it's not as good...).

Rogue Galaxy is never getting a sequel, that's ok with me. It's their only decent game.

I remember behind closed door footage of WKC leaking out from E3 2005 and everyone being shocked at how great the graphics were and that the game wasn't demoed on the main stage. Then it came out and was given meh to bad reviews across the board.
