Lime, a popular electric scooter and bike rental service, has announced it will be implementing a “no-go zone” around a crosswalk painted with a large Pride flag mural in Spokane, Washington. The crosswalk has become the center of much discussion after the arrest of multiple teens for making skid marks on the painted pavement.

On June 6, the Spokane Police Department announced the arrest of three teenagers on charges of 1st Degree Malicious Mischief, all in relation to the alleged vandalism of a Pride flag-painted crosswalk at the intersection of Howard Street and Spokane Falls Boulevard.

According to the press release, “911 received a complaint advising multiple subjects on scooters were causing damage to the newly painted Pride mural.”

The release continued: “Officers observed widespread damage as black scuff marks consistent with scooter wheels were observed across the entirety of the mural. The area is clearly marked to keep traffic away as it was just re-painted to repair previous damage.”

Attached to the release were two photos demonstrating the extent of the damage, both of which showed faint black marks on the street painting consistent with thin tire marks.

The alleged vandalism, which was claimed by many to be motivated by homophobia, resulted in an outpouring of condemnation from Spokane’s LGBT community and those purporting to be LGBT allies.

One journalist from a local media station, Adam Schwager, went viral after complaining that he had witnessed other teenagers running over the pride mural crosswalk while he was doing on-site reporting.

“A group of five to six kids just started doing donuts and creating skid marks on the Pride Mural. Right in front of me as we’re reporting on three people getting arrested for doing the same thing last night,” Schwager said, accompanying his post with a video of minors riding on what appeared to be rented Lime scooters.

But the arrest, along with the seemingly minimal damage caused to the crosswalk mural, has also prompted widespread mockery on social media.

Many users on X (formerly Twitter) posted in support of the teens arrested, while others questioned why a mural had been painted at a busy intersection if it was never intended to be scuffed by tire marks.

While discussion surrounding the incident continues to rage on, the scooter rental company at the center of the alleged “acts of vandalism” has now issued a statement.

“All of us at Lime condemn these vile acts in no uncertain terms,” Lime Director of Government Relations Hayden Harvey told The National Desk. “At a time when our teams at Lime are beginning pride celebrations around the globe, it is disturbing to see the hate taking place in Spokane.”

Lime has now implemented a “no-go zone” over the crosswalk, meaning scooters driven over the mural will be remotely shut down. According to the company’s website, entering a “no-go zone” will cause a Lime vehicle to “gradually come to a stop,” forcing a rider to walk their scooter until it is outside the zone.

The incident in Spokane is not the first time an individual has been arrested or investigated for “defacing” a pride mural painted on the street.

In February, a 19-year-old from Clearwater, Florida, was arrested after being caught on video doing “burnouts” with his truck on a pride crosswalk in Delray Beach. Dylan Brewer turned himself into the Delray Beach Police Department after the video began to circulate online. He was charged with felony criminal mischief over $1000 and reckless driving.

I've never understood how a special-interest group manages to get these murals (or whatever you call it) slapped on a public road. In my city, there's a gigantic BLM stencil painted in the heart of downtown, much like the pics that quaawaa posted. Who sponsored it, how was it rammed through the local governance, and what funding block did it come out of? Does this mean that, if I bribe the right people, I can have a "TRUMP 2024" stenciled on the street right in front of City Hall?

Teen- clearly over 18

Imagine a confederate flag or a giant swatzika on the road, there would be a bunch of retards showing up to sieg heil at it and other retards showing up to deface the “hate” symbol.

Putting a politicol symbol up like this is just asking for someone to fuck with it. I hope they have a neverending surge of retards with trucks doing doughnuts all over it honking their horns at max volume

Can anyone help me manufacture tires with custom "14/88" mirrored pattern treads?
I mean you wouldn't just use paint stripper and paint something inappropriate and then wait for people driving over it to actually remove the paint. That would just be horrible, really people do not do this.

I don't see how they get away in the first place with declaring something a crosswalk that doesn't comply with the legal definition of one in terms of color, as all road signs/markings must.

If I ever got a ticket for damaging/defacing one of these, that'd be my argument....

What crosswalk? The vehicles code says they're white striped markings of yea width and yea length, all I ran over was some runny rainbow-colored thing that I thought was just graffiti.... you can't expect me to know the 50 permutations of all the road signs they've invented for "representation" - signs exist to meet a standard for easy identification.

(This is essentially why they got rid of all those special interest license plates and forced them to conform to the color scheme of the home state, cops legitimately said it wasn't reasonable or safe for there to be 5,000 different colors or overly-decorated backgrounds (some of which were completely unreadable) when the whole point of a plate was to be readable and home state decipherable at a quick glance...)

Hypothetical: I'm not into this kind of thing, just using it as an example.

Peeing on someone while doing weird sex stuff isn't illegal. What would the public opinion be like if golden shower enthusiasts made their own flag? Or tried to worm their way under the LGBTQ umbrella? "Better Pissed on than Pissed off" their shirts would say. People in adult baby diapers reading to kids using the excuse, "I was afraid to tell people I liked getting peed on when I was a kid. This is showing kids it's okay to pee on each other". People writing articles about how animals pee on each other so it's completely normal. Schools taking kids to piss shows. Special bathrooms built for urination on others.

Wouldn't fly. Yet homosexuality and transgenderism are both equally disgusting sexual practices that we are supposed to respect. No matter how they try to spin it, these are sexual deviant practices.

If that's your thing, do it in private. Don't paint it on the road and tell us to like it.

There is already a flag for it. You can paint it, you just need orange, white, green and blue for the wagon wheel.

I really hope this is like a bat-signal for the hoards of coal rolling dualies lurking in the wiles of Eastern WA, because if these fags think tiretracks from fucking e-scooters is bad...

E:
How to bypass this terrifying issue:
  1. Rent a Lime scooter
  2. Go to the progress road cross (you know where you at since the scooter will stop)
  3. Leave the scooter in the middle of the road
  4. Walk away.
This is funny, buuuuuut, how does this differ from how people already abandon the scooter after use tho ;)

Google Maps captured the "damage" done by trucks before they repainted it and the scooter kids showed up:
