A competent sysadmin will just spin up an nginx instance on some machine on the network that's mostly idle and call it good
Oh boy, how many times I saw that. Where a shit engineer/soydev, ended up creating a complex, over-engineered software to act as a directory listing, where it's something that you can do easier and faster on any good web-server.

For me the best example, is the amount of soydevs that uses firebase for they products, you can find easily a lot of angry people in forums/reddit complaining that they were billed 200+USD from google on their firebase project where a 10 USD VM would do the same and more for less

I'm surprised you think Mighty Car Mods hasn't lost that initial magic. I used to watch them back in their early days when they were doing those electric turbocharger mythbusting video and other questionable modifications with Turbo Yoda. Recently though, I'd say around 2017ish I think MCM certainly has grown very big and at the same time has become sort of corporate like LTT.
It's not what it once was, but they're still the same two blokes they've always been. Only now they're in their 40s and have a lifetime of accumulated experience, wealth and contacts to back them up.

Sponsors seem to throw themselves at MCM. Though the way MCM's sponsorships seem to work are more in the way of old-school product placement in TV and movies. That's why many episodes have a 5 second shot of Castrol products being poured into an engine and why a random Ranger or Transit turns up whenever they need to lug some shit around.

At least they're self-aware enough to not set up a Patreon. Seems like the merch, the sponsorships and the ad revenue is enough to keep growing the channel.

What I admire more about the MCM guys is that they're so private. They're not constantly hunting for self-promotion and they're not tweeting out every brain fart they have. Marty and Moog are anti-cows.
Almost everything they do feels formulaic and contrived and sometimes over produced. The video that comes to mind is when they hired a bollywood style dance group to dance in front of one of their cars as part of a really over produced gag.
That's just Moog flexing his mad music production skills. The musical numbers have been part of MCM since the early days.

I think some of their video series are even available for consumption on the entertainment devices of some Australian airlines, either Quantas or Jetstar.
Apparently MCM has been approached on more than one occasion to make TV shows for major networks, but they've turned these offers because they're worried about losing creative control. I think these guys are Wayne's World fans.

That said, apparently they did a deal with Discovery to make some clip shows of existing MCM stuff. I haven't had cable TV for at least 15 years so I couldn't tell you what these are like.
I think balance with the audience can still be achieved when one's channel grows very big with multiple sponsors pouring in the money. Some good examples of this are channels like Hoovies Garage, Tavarish, and Matts off road recovery.
Oddly enough, I think Hoovie's Garage is more contrived than MCM. Hoovie isn't anywhere nearly as dumb as he lets on (though he's probably almost as much of a goober irl as he comes across in his videos). As for the other two... yeah, I don't watch Matt's Off-Road Recovery and I kinda dip in and out of Tavarish's videos. I didn't mind the first few seasons of Car Trek, but that's feeling way too formulaic now.

Yeah they definitely aren't what they were. I don't find any of their new stuff interesting or entertaining at all because it's not relatable now that I own and work on several of my own cars. I'm aware Moog is a sound engineer and musician and have purchased some of his tracks but that still doesn't change my opinion on their current content. There are so many car project youtubers out there now that do lots of cool stuff. MCM has fallen on the wayside for me. I think their target demographic is still kids and teens who don't own cars yet.

I'm sure Hoovie has some sort of skeleton script for his videos so he knows what he plans to shoot. The end content though makes it feel like a fun discovery or new venture where he brings the audience along. I do agree the Car Trek stuff is very formulaic on Tavarish's end. Besides that, his normal content along with Wrench Every Day is pretty fun.

and then he went on to dye his hair pink in the 8th grade, after being nicknamed "faggot" for two years

Gee I have no clue why anyone would bully you, Linus

"Every car that I've owned, personally, has been second-hand, and, um... to this date, I've driven every single one of them into the ground, and it's not 'cause it gives me some kind of satisfaction to... sit in a vehicle every day with no air conditioning"

lmao how wealthy must you have been all along to talk about never having owned a new car and that's something worth sobbing over?

He goes on to say it's because he hates waste, but how many second-hand thousand dollar cell phones has he had?
This guy has the mindset of those who live in McMansions. Bitches about beater cars and what he is entitled??? Regardless of where ever a person is in life, this is the mindset of people that I will avoid.

The reasons are:

1. The seductive power of wealth to buy things just to show off that he has that particular wealth. Unless you have billions to burn the rest of us in the wealth bracket, including him does not have that option. It's great to buy toys and show off, unless you got a solid foundation of wealth this ability of buying things can not last forever.

I believe this is the reason why the wife wears the pants in the family. He comes off now too immature now... The type of "Safe Space and Snow Flake" type of immaturity that those will real power just laugh at in front of them. Wife controls the strings and he has become the Simp.

2. Choosing the level of wealth. It is obvious to me that he is chasing that level of wealth to look good. With that level of influence that he can milk his audience to live off of. He is an influencer now and not a geeky tech guy. He has chosen the Status symbol of wealth to be known through out the world. He has changed himself to fit in the corporate Digital society in the world of Goggle.

3. Politics. This fucker should have kept his mouth completely shut about the Summer of Love/Peaceful Protests of 2020. He showed his cards about how fucking woke he is.
His white ass Broke politics to sympathize with people robbing and stealing and BURNING DOWN THEIR OWN NEABORHOODS?

Well fuck him.

I used to admire him years ago. That geeky techie guy that knew his stuff and spread it to the masses along the way.

But along the way, going down the road to success, the seduction of money got to him and this is what we have now.

Just another cuck shilling his wares to his subscriber base.

With how many subscribers they have and how many people tend to come whenever they do an event I don't think it's too unreasonable that for $110 (or $6k if you want a front seat) that you have to bring your own equipment.

No, you don’t even get a tour for your CA$112.46. All that gets you is a seat and access to a 1080p 144 Hz monitor (which are most likely the cheapest gaming monitors they could find). You have to spend an additional CA$56.76 for the tour.

I like how the 6k seats are already sold out. Hope there are pictures from this. I want to see what kind of retard spends 6k to see some shills from YouTube.

It's even worse. The tour is only ~20 mins (they have a session every 30 mins). Almost 60 bucks for 20 mins of walking around a YouTube set and some generic open concept tech offices.

Linus must be hoping he can pay for his mortgage by scamming his fans.

They're doing the old lan party thing so bringing your own stuff will be part of it, it's part of the culture but this seems weeny as fuck.

yeah I get it, but at this point I'd rather just hop onto a random midrange gaming PC I'm sure they have lying around, log into my Steam account, and just download my cloud saves from there. Though I guess this is the perfect situation where a Steam Deck or a gaming laptop are ideal

Oh yeah, they're trying to emulate a Dreamhack or Gathering for sure. Events like that grew organically, Linus is turning the old "lug your pc" into a premium hipster thing of some kind for his ventures.

It's a CuckCon.

at 55:55 LInus mentions the backpack going on backorder, and that 50 backpacks were sold at their pop-up last week. They had 250 they were planning on selling last weekend. Linus says selling 50 was double what he considers to have been a successful pop-up, but compared to how he spoke last week you can tell he's adjusting numbers in his head and maaaybe this massive growth has real issues, it's very similar to how reality kept chipping in during his new warehouse tour a month ago. Even the soys in one of the gayest parts of Canada didn't think it was worth consooming over.

At 1:36:30 Linus addresses an attempt to cancel him, it seems someone is sending out an e-mail to all the LTT people and business partners that when Linus was 16 he raped a 12 year old girl (the person who wrote the e-mail claims to be the girl's father). Linus even puts the e-mail up. All Linus had to was just point out how it's a lie but then he does this short list of his romantic history where he names the woman he popped his cherry with, which seems in bad taste even for a soy canadian.

why would someone acknowledge something like this? especially in a public setting? why?

He is hoping he can get out in front of it and turn the online discourse early. It is one of the ways you can fight back without going the lawfare route. But it is a gamble, as it could snowball. As for him listing off love conquests, that was pure cringe.
I am not inclined to believe it, even soys like Linus can become targets for extortion attempts. Especially as he keeps bragging about all the expensive tech in his house. If it has meat to it, the girl in question will come forward. Not some my dad works at Nintendo Email. We could see a Linus cancel culture arc full of speds from both sides if that happens. But as this email was only sent to LTT staff and close business partners. My big think is that it is some angry guy he fired or had bad business with in the past. Does not fit the usual M.O of political cancel culture. But it could also be trolling ops.

That's like a negative value. Taking away 20-30 minutes where you could be calling LTT fans faggots in a LAN game?
