Oled itself is a bigger upgrade to normal Screens than 4k. i have an older plasma i use for videogames and movies and its so much better than most more modern screens.

the issue is that you have nothing to watch in that quality. some sub HD DVD from good companies look better than 4k Bluerays from mainstream companies...
I do like 4k for movies, but you're right that you really need OLED to exploit it. As for PC/laptop, 1080p is my go to, and for a while I was using a old Dell monitor on my pc rig that used that old white connector that came before HDMI, which with my modest graphics card, allowed for a high frame rate due to being like 800p or something weird like that.

old white connector
Lemme guess... DVI?

That exactly. The monitor I used still lives- its a dell monitor- and I'm thinking of hooking it back up for dual screens. But yeah. Mt quality standards aren't super high. I still have a horde of VHS tapes lol. 1080p is still very viable, and most of the movies I buy are just standard blu rays.

FUCKIN CHINKS TAKING MA LOGO I AM NOT MAD I AM LAFIN AT U
Okay whatever you say faggot. Also a really strange moment where they remove a globe from the background lolsorandumb
Oh good lord twenty seconds in and we got a ad reel and a intro. You aint filthy frank bitch. And he's mad the chinese stole his logo lol. Thats what chinks do.

Sorry if late, but what a big coincidence that the two best drinks in Linus' opinion are from big YouTubers! Everything else is apparently so disgusting, it never gets a rating above 4/10. KSI and Logan Paul must both have a PhD in food chemistry to have developed the formula for the only good energy drink in existence.

its funny how his crew makes fun of him beeing a midget.
also who buys "gamerdrinks"? just get yourself a mate or redbull...

Prime isn't a gamer drink, it's a gatorade wannabe. And I got one at the store not knowing it's the KSI/Logan Paul brand. It actually isn't bad, it tastes like they put more flavor concentrate in it than other sports drinks do. It's pretty much another version of the Body Armor brand of drinks.

This all seems like an excuse for him to make his own Fag Leafe brand of energy drink, with all his employees soyfacing for the can label.

My jaw is on the floor. That shit is IMAX grade. The hell you need that for, no one has a screen outside of a theater that can use that resolution?
The excuse is typically that you can easily reframe a 4k shot cropped from the raw 16k footage and you can reencode your videos in 10 years when everyone's phone comes with a 16k screen.

In reality, they just buy expensive equipment because they can and it makes them feel like they're real Hollywood studios.

Listen it's already getting hard to tell the difference between 4k and 1080, you're future proofing for a problem that doesn't exist. Even now most YouTube videos are in 1080. I agree this is vanity

They actually don't use the REDs anymore (which were 8k, not 16k), they've moved on to 12k cameras from Blackmagic. Those were only 10 grand a piece, instead of 50...

Also, drink water.

For youtube purposes, you should always upscale your video to 4k just so you can get a higher bitrate out of youtube. There's a clear difference in youtube's stream quality for 1080p and 4k, on a 1080p screen. Many channels that are actually centered around technical video production, like the slo-mo guys, do this. They've even gone up to 8k upscaled upload just to get a higher bitrate.

I got a OLED 50 inch at my dad's place, it's hard to notice 4k, specially when it's fucking compressed like youtube or netflix.
Wish shit like HDR/Dolby Vision got more traction, it's far more noticeable and you actually notice the difference.
At least most phones since 2020 with oled/amoled got it, so you can check the difference.
If you care enough about video quality to go with an OLED, you should be watching 4k blurays or 4k rips of blurays. If you dont youre basically pissing away the money you spent on said OLED.

I have a 65 inch Sony A85J and the quality difference between a 4k bluray and 4k stream is very noticeable.

The only valid space for it is Floatplane, which does full 4k support for all its creators - But floatplane is their own creation, so its just more on the ego pile.

That being said, the black magics aren't nearly as egregious. $10k for a good production camera is not really all that big of a deal, thats two months cost for a mid salary employee (Canukistan employment taxes are brutal). The 12k is only a grand a pop more than their bottom tier (A 4k as well), and as mentioned it can offer some editing benefits for when your crew is retarded and can't aim the camera very well.

The REDs were just a stupid ego trip, which seemed to have been an effort to make content from them. I don't think the RED videos did particularly well, at least not outperforming the usual random slop, and cost a small fortune. No surprise they'd walk away from that.

Still, I don't see 4k taking off for major streaming consumption anytime soon. Simply put, its too expensive to serve. Floatplane tries to get around this with their subscription model, but really its just burning money for marginal benefit, 4k's additions are mostly lost to compression hell. And streaming 4k raw is a pipe dream.

4k is really only viable on disks or downloaded straight to your hard drive; via the internet you need fiber, which I'm sad to say, isn't happening everywhere for a very long time. Good for me, my personal hobby is disc collecting and the occasional disc drive repair, but for many its a pain in the ass which I fully get. Even then like has been mentioned, in order to get out the full image in 4k, you need HDR, OLED, and Dolby Atmos doesn't hurt seeing how many movies now come with it. 1080 is still king and will be for a very long time.
