my 50s house the two or three areas where i got occupancy sensor switches, so they turn on the lights when you enter the room and turn them off a little bit after you leave and they are smart enough to not trigger if ambient light level is high. 80s level technology with no ip addresses, and it is far more impressive in actual use and trouble free than any smart home shit.

i doubt imbecile linus is doing anything more sophisticated than that with his "smert home" except maybe slowly giving his family cancer from all the RF pollution.

If there is one thing I hate more than the linus house videos are videos about "personal rigs" , or building a PC for whatever cause. Jayzfatcents is one of the biggest culprits and he can't ever finish a build in a timely manner because he has to wait for all his free parts to come in. When I first started watching LTT like 3..4 years ago or so, I watched because sometimes they had actual tech tips. Or reviews of tech... be it video cards or headsets... and the behind the scenes stuff was fun, I really enjoy the server episodes. But now it's reviews of cars or fucking his house shit which every always feels fucking weird to me. Exploiting your workers for free labor on your house. And he's got his family in his videos so much now he might as well rebrand as a "mommy blogger".

Anthony's no dollar wasted PC build video from 4years ago was and remains a legitimately good build video despite some dated parts. That's what people wanted, and is a reason people liked him so much, and perhaps this is when his ego got fed too much and he drank the HRT koolaid. The humor was at the beginning with Dennis but it didn't try to be le Reddit gay in the process or have way too many memes in the video from editors. Then Linus went and decided he needed wacky builds and a pointless "this is the last pc build guide you'll ever need" which is full of filler and fat.

And for glimmers of hope, the newest comments show it's Anthony, not Emily:

I have these in my living room, hallway, and bathroom.

Not this exact model, but something like it. I don't have a hundred things to plug in, in most places, so can lose one of the electrical sockets. I also like that you can get them in that super bright "white light" or "warm light." So when you stumble into the bathroom at 2AM and don't want to risk turning the light on and blinding yourself, you don't have to piss in the dark. And like yours, if there's enough ambient light, they don't even turn on. Pretty sure the dogs like them too, so they have an easier time getting outside on their own. Just a solar cell and motion detector, literal 1980's (if not earlier) tech that makes shit super convenient.

I really like the light switches that have a dull orange LED in the switch that turns on when you turn the switch off. Doesn't really light anything up so it won't make it harder to sleep or anything but makes it super easy to find the switch in the dark.

Watercooling is for posers and I've never understood why people would risk damaging their components with it just because Linus Troon Snips does it.

I watercool my sub 20L itx build with 2 280 rads with a 7900xtx and 7950x3D
It runs cooler and quieter than air for its size.
I could get a bigger case, I could run air or an AIO in it, but I like ITX builds and watercooling is the best option for cooling it.

That said, watercooling is very very easy and near impossible to fuck up, if you can plug in a garden hose you can watercool.

What's unreasonable about this? He's not going to fight a battle he'd legally lose. Nintendo, however, more likely than not does not have legal ground to stand on, and while I have a lot to say about Linus and his channel, this shit has been going on a lot with Japanese companies in general unfairly abusing the DMCA. This is actually more of the shit we need from LTT, not "I made my employees hired to send emails remodel my house."

Any normal lawyer will put the axe to that - Nintendo puts all those rules into their use of license agreement as its a public performance of the software. Is ironclad what direction a judge would rule? No, there's a chance that a Judge decides its unenforceable. Is it likely? probably not, there's well established precedent ruling against public performance of single-user licensed softwares, especially when theirs a profit or financial motive involved for people - if not the org, then the players. Any sane lawyer will laugh and say fuck off no way. What's important is that it wouldn't get Nintendo laughed outta court, the case would be heard and it would be financed by Nintendo, so your not gonna outlast them. LTT does not have the capital to play games at that level, they'd be liquidated in short order.

But we've all seen the quality of LTT's usual hires. It might be they have an ego retard who thinks he can beat Nintendo of America in a dirty tricks legal ruling.

You'd think as a supposed tech guru, that he'd be more careful to keep up with the basics of what he's supposed to review. Linus can't even use the excuse that he's super busy running multiple projects and therefore doesn't have the time to learn, because he's stepped down from being the head of LTT (but will still be closely connected to the company, iirc).

Actually, in addition to incompetence, I wonder if he doesn't feel the need to improve because the spectacle is what people flock to his videos for. His new project doesn't have to be on the Mr. Beast scale in terms of size, it just has to be big enough for interest to pique. The arguing in the comments just pushes his video to more people, since YT cares about interactivity metrics.

Well, the point is is that Nintendo is doing this contrary to the law. Whatever I think of him, I wouldn't expect him to do something that would lose him a lawsuit, especially deliberately so like that, the courts would award Nintendo even higher damages. This however would set a precedent and may discourage Nintendo in the future. If you remember back to when Codemasters (of Game Genie fame) sued Nintendo and cemented the right of things like GGs and GameSharks to exist, it's just like that. Nintendo has been doing this kind of shit for a long time.

It was ruled before that licenses are not enforceable by law and when they are, they can't go against the law. I don't know a lot about Canadian law but by they having a lot of anti-monopolistic and anti-corporativism laws, I imagine that Linus could have a good chance of winning.

The thing about Nintendo against modders, abandonwares and community events in general is that they don't have the money to sue them but Linus has, so if he win, he could get out with a precedent and more money.
