What's all this talk about travel screwdrivers? I didn't know traveling computer repairman was a thing. Are you guys really opening up your laptops on the road? Why?
I've helped two of my nephews install upgrades in their computers because my sisters didn't trust them not to simply break their computers, and brought some screwdrivers with me on both occasions because it seemed more convenient than sending their fathers to fetch things from the garage. I expect most of this "traveling computer repairman" stuff is simply helping your tech-illiterate relatives install a bigger SSD, or cleaning out the dust in your dad's computer because it overheats, things like that.

Basically this. You'd be amazed how many people are abjectly terrified of the idea of opening up any kind of electronic device, even the people you'd think are technically capable and competent. And that's just in computer stuff, a good screw kit is useful outside of that. A good screwdriver kit is a great little addition to the "Hey can you help me out" travel kit when a friend calls up.

Marques "MKBHD" Brownlee drove 96 MPH (155 KPH) in a school zone in an ad he made for a Chinese GoPro knockoff (PreserveTube):
An update on MKBHD, a few separate bodycam videos have been uploaded of Marques getting ticketed THREE times. He got ticketed for tinted windows (twice), speeding (59 in a 25 zone) and a missing front license plate. Marques was also unable to provide his drivers license during the first stop, and he pretends to have forgotten why he has points on his drivers license from YET ANOTHER ticket back in 2022 (spoiler, speeding).

We are featuring 3 traffic stops involving Marques Brownlee, who is a prominent influencer with his own YouTube channel.

Around 10:36 AM on June 30, 2023, Patrolman Benjamin Dippe with the Alpine Police Department observed a 2021 Tesla being driven with tinted windows. This was in violation of 39:3-75 in New Jersey. He initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Marques Brownlee. He also did not have his license with him. Patrolman Dippe was able to verify who he was and gave him a citation for a violation under 39:3-75 before letting him drive away.

On June 16, 2024 around 5:18 PM Officer Shayna Bohus with the Closter Police Department observed the driver of a black 2024 Porsche speeding 59 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. She initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled over on Cleveland Street. She made contact with Marques, and he provided all his documentation to her. She told him that he had been speeding 59 MPH in a 25 MPH zone and asked him if he knew why he had 2 points on his license. Marques told her that he did not remember, but New Jersey court records indicate that he has been previously ticketed by the New Jersey State Police in Paramus, New Jersey on January 21, 2022 for speeding on the Garden Staten Parkway. Instead of citing him for speeding, she decided to give him a break and only ticketed him for improper display/unclear plates in violation of 39:3-33.

On August 11, 2024, Officer Gabriel Roldan with the Palisades Interstate Parkway observed a 2024 Porsche being driven on the Palisades Interstate Parkway southbound with tinted windows and no front license plate. He initiated a traffic stop and Marques pulled into the gas station in Englewood Cliffs. Officer Roldan made contact with Marques and asked for his documentation. After checking his information, Officer Roldan cited Marques for having an obstructed windshield in violation of 39:3-74 and improper display/unclear plates in violation of 39:3-33 before letting him drive away.

Court records indicate that the fines for all of his citations have already been paid. As of December 15, 2024, Marques does not have any outstanding fines.

What a retard. Going double the speed limit without a license in a car with opaque windows (in a state that doesn’t get hot enough to need tint) and a tinted license plate cover (obviously to dodge the toll/speed cameras that are common in the NYC area). Dude is a walking “pull me over” sign but I bet you he believes that he only gets pulled over because he’s black.

I was one of the ones shilling this, and it's still my go-to travel screwdriver to keep in a backpack. I did buy one of the iFixit Mako kits a while back because i needed something with a tri-point bit on short notice, and those are also nice if you don't care about how compact the case is. The iFixit kits also come with a flex extension, which makes a lot more sense for an electronics screwdriver than a fucking ratchet mechanism.

Ratcheting rules for screws in awkward places. Flex shaft is probably more useful overall though. Might be able to get both

LTT precision driver has bit storage which is unusual for these small drivers

in practice computer screws have so little torque applied that the ratcheting mechanism never really comes into play. I only found ratcheting screwdriver useful for those fan screws the first time you put them in where they cut threads into the frame. and i used a 12$ husky not a 90$ LTT® Dildriver™

No surprises Markass Browny is a complete moron in his personal life. The guys videos offer absolutely nothing useful or insightful and are so dripping with shill dollars that you would be better informed by watching a real advertisement instead. Get that swarthy nigger off the road before he kills someone.

Yeah I'm currently on a trip in the US but working remotely so I brought that Wiha screwdriver set that I shilled in case something happens with the laptop like the memory or SSD dying. I have had to open it once already to check on the Wi-Fi card as I wasn't sure if I had put those fiddly antenna connections back on correctly after swapping the card.

It's worth it since if I can't work, I forfeit wages and it's not much of a hassle to have it in your checked luggage.

Good point. Most tech audiences would have a grade-school science education to vaguely recall learning about SI units but not remember enough to realize that Steve & Co.'s reasoning for using it is retarded. "Muh Kelvins" is the equivalent of a quirky factoid that two spergs in a computer store can get themselves into a huff over and claim they're victims of false advertisement.
People say translating is easy until they have to localize "sentry gun". Same way they think Borderlands writing is cringe until they have to write a contemporary joke that isn't a 10 year old cliche or a 6 month overdue skibidi rizz ohio type sentence.

In some European countries you'd loose your licence for driving double the speed limit + a big fine.

Especially considering he was speeding past a school. Most European countries treat areas around schools special, and the punishments for endangering children are particularly draconian.
School areas in the US are double fines if it's during the posted "school hours". There's flashing signs with a reduced speed limit on them during those times which tend to be when kids are either getting to school or leaving it.

For example:

This should have been a couple of big fines at a minimum. Three of those in such a short time would normally force someone to be before a judge (or in Marques's case, pay a lot of money to a lawyer to try and get him out of it). The irony of all of this is that he probably avoided actual tickets because he's black! I honestly think a white people in NJ/NY wouldn't have been able to get away with just warnings.

this looks stupid
buying used enterprise drives on ebay
This looked familiar, and I want back and saw this same company also was in a Level1Tech video not too long ago:

It's a much better video because Wendell is much more knowledgeable, he's had running arrays from this company for a while, and listening to him doesn't want to stab myself in the ear with an overpriced shitty Canadian screwdriver.

I think for regular at home data hoarders and pirates, buying dual high capacity drives (1 for storage, 1 for backups) and setting a calendar event that reminds you to put in your backup drives, run a snapshot and and put them back in a fire resistant box every month -- is probably more worthwhile than buying a shit ton of old data center drives.

I guess if you need a petabyte of live storage and setup your RAIDZ redundancy properly, this could be a solution? 🤷‍♂️
