Speaking of his boat, how long until he makes a video about putting a $5000 pc inside a drawer in his boat or a "worlds first lan at sea" type video?

On WAN show Friday Linus mentioned the yacht idea is dead, the boat doesn’t come with a mooring spot and there’s nothing affordable in the area.

He also mentions the workcation and said people weren’t supposed to film at Disneyland as he wanted it to actually be the vacation part of the work trip, and it seems like maybe he met with Disney people just to talk about managing people because they do it on a much larger scale (36,000) people for Disney California alone).

There is also a big inventory sale on the store now (which also received the Shopify equivalent of a gold play button by selling 1 million items), of which the tech vest is 60% off and seems like it’s not going to be restocked so lol.

Finally, it seems the labs website has been refreshed and updated and has a way to click and see more columns of info as well as a product finder for what your needs or limitations are. All of this I just heard and did not see as I was doing yard work and I’m not going back to search.

His plans for the boat do include renting it out as a literal location for luxury floating LAN parties.
I hope that was just joking, because I struggle to think of the kind of person on the intersection of "Holds LAN Parties" and "Has enough money to rent a Yacht" who's also actually interested in leaving their house.

A rare Linus lucky break, saved him a fortune. Thank fuck this idea is dead.

So he was looking at 120' boats. The company is based in Surrey, BC so lets assume vancouver pricing applies and look up the costs at a couple marinas that can actually fit something that large.
No spots open, so a waitlist. $35,000 refundable deposit, with another $500 year admin fee.
$45,500 annual pre-paid or $4200 monthly
for a 120' boat, they charge $35/ft per year or $46/ft per month so $50,000/year or $5,500/month

Seems like this retard didn't spend 5 minutes looking this shit up, which isn't even going to include maintenance nevermind that something that big realistically is going to require actual staff that know wtf they're doing.

Linus is a fucking retard if he ever assumed that would somehow make money for some LAN party shit.

Not sure if it was posted already, but after Anthony's recent video I decided to check his Xitter history and sure enough, he was already talking of "educating kids" about trannies way back in 2021. This along with his Discord certainly checks some disturbing boxes.

I'm sad the Yacht story ended.
It would have been a hilarious and incredibly tone deaf waste of money. The latest in a long line of hilarious and tone deaf wastes of money while he underpays and overworks his employees.
Yachts are the ultimate money wasters. They're known for it. Like unless you actually know what the fuck you're doing you're just going to burn money constantly.

Buying a yacht to rent it out for LAN parties is objectively one of the stupidest fucking business ideas I think I've ever heard. A 120 foot yacht no less.

How much crack this nigga smoking?

Yeah but it'd be funny.

Not only yachts its all boats, Boat = break out another thousand.

The only reason you should buy a boat is (just writing this for the benefit of any kiwis):
  • You will actually use it and use it regularly (or have some seriously sound business plan)
  • You know someone very well who seriously knows their shit about boats and can take a look through the entire boat before you buy it (or failing that you will have to hire a marine surveyor. If you cheap out on that shit you will fuck yourself over hardcore.
  • You clearly know where you're going to park it and you have plenty of disposable income to do maintenance and you know what needs to be maintained. If you have the money hire someone to do regular maintenance for you (but that will be expensive) - it's worse than owning a house where you have to clean out the gutters and use mold remover and all of that shit regularly, there are tons of small things you have to do to keep it in shape. You will need to do engine refits and all sorts of shit over time.
  • If you know nothing about boats, plan to have someone who does know boats teach you the basics and go out a fucking lot so you know what to do. Better yet go out on a rental boat or a friends boat tons before you even think about buying one.
  • If you don't maintain it properly it will lose its value very quickly and maybe even just straight up fucking sink.
  • If you think you're going to rent it out you're retarded. Go speak to actual charter companies first to understand the local market (and of course, it is better if you know a friend who knows this shit for you because people will just lie to you). He lives in a place where no one will rent shit for several months of the year (winter).
If you don't use it you're either wasting money or its just going to end up costing more in maintenance, but if you actually actively use it then you're less likely to have issues and it makes more financial sense.

Linus trying to buy one as a spring of the moment thing is beyond retarded... especially a fucking 120' boat. I've had friends start talking about doing similar and I instantly bitchslap them with facts & logic.
Linus must have a lot of cash or credit sitting around that he has nothing to do with and for some reason can't just park it in his bank account. Anyone getting into that shit without serious planning and consideration will fuck themselves over hardcore. It's almost as stupid and spur of the moment as the fucking badminton court shit.

The absolute last person on earth who should be thinking about buying a boat is a fucking nerd who spends 90% of their time indoors in front of a computer. Surefire way to burn tons of money.

edit: jesus christ he seriously wants to do a "tech boat" and retrofit it with technology shit? I'm about to have a fucking aneurysm.

Or, he's desperate for extra lines of revenue for whatever reason, and is just grasping at straws. The fact he didn't even know how expensive berthing the thing is doesn't indicate someone who put much research into the total cost of ownership, which tells me he was starting from the revenue potential side.

Its also possible he's gotten a weird boat fixation recently, but that usually starts with small boats (even model boats), maybe joining/renting a sailboat, not immediately jumping to a yacht.

A 120' yacht as a "starter" is fucking insane.
And yeah it seems like he's trying to make alternative forms of revenue, probably to have stable cashflow if the company ever goes to shit for a while. If you think about it, the company is a giant money sink with a huge number of staff and extensive floor space and if they have a terrible 3-4 month period they'd probably go bankrupt. It does make long term financial sense for the company to have alternative assets/revenue streams but a 120' yacht is a terrible idea. Maybe there are some tax benefits as well to doing it.
