Lionsgate has a Highlander Reboot in the works - The Floggings Will Continue Until Morale Improves

Why can't things just exist in their original form? This doesn't even NEED a remake. Inb4 it's a cast of all black women for diversity reasons.

It's going to be shit, Highlander was a cheesy fun but Good movie from the 80's. It's best aspects were a product of it's time and could never be replicated in today's holywood. The remake would at best be bland, lifeless, and completely forgetful like the Robocop or Total Recall remake. At worst it would be like a Netflix original.

So, John Wick's Stahelski is directing, and I can kinda-sorta see Cavill as a Celtic immortal swordsman.

This could work, if they let Stahelski do his thing alone, without any kikewood interference.

Stahelski isn't a bad director, if there's minimal ESG/Chinese pandering and a good script arises against the luck of Lionsgate this could be decent but that's a big if.

I don't really have a problem rebooting this franchise. Outside of Clancy Brown hamming it up as Kurgan I've never had a high opinion of any of the films. So, taking another shot at making the concept into a decent film is fine with me.

Of course the possibility of it being a good film is fairly low in Current Year.

Highlander fans at this point are hard-guarded to assume that this movie's going to suck.

Seeing someone competent at the helm with Cavill on board, however, is certainly grounds for taking pause.

Highlander fans have got to be the most battered wife syndrome-afflicted fandom of all of them. All of the films are awful except the first. With nearly every other franchise there's at least a couple of good sequels.
Daily reminder that I can imagine Arnie sitting with Cameron, watching "Highlander" and going "see this guy? This is how I want you to look and behave".

Clancy Brown was basically a swordsman Terminator, before Terminator was a thing. The similarities are quite striking.

Highlander as a franchise is the shittiest thing ever. The only good thing other than the first movie was the tv show(not the animated one), that one was pretty decent.

They also made a video game adaptation(Highlander - The Last of the MacLeods), it's complete shit and was exclusive to the Jaguar CD. Jesus christ.

@verissimus Cope and seethe.

I have a somewhat funny story to tell that I don't know is truly interesting or not but fuck it:

>Be me
>I was either 9 or 10 years old
>Highlander TV show is a thing
>I recognize it from commercials when I would watch Monday Night Raw and one or two other things on USA Network like Duckman or whatever
>Somehow I end up on a mailing list for a catalogue of Highlander merch including replica swords
>I watch part of one episode and I'm like "Eh."
>I get another notice in the mail that the catalogue is late
>I obviously don't care
>Fast forward a few more months and it's a Saturday morning or whatever and my family gets a phone call
>My dad answers it and it's for me
>I answer the phone and it's the star of the fucking Highlander show Adrian Paul
>I shit you fucking not
>I have no idea who the fuck he is
>He is calling on behalf of this company that sells the merch and apparently there was an issue with fans not getting their catalogues
>He asks if I like the show and how long I've been watching
>I go "Uh... Two years?"
>Adrian Paul goes "Oh cool. Long time fan!"
>I bullshit a little bit longer and he has to go
>Get assured I will get a catalogue
>Nice guy
>My parents ask me what that was about and I say I don't know and it was about a TV show
>Still never even got the catalogue

@verissimus I personally talked to Adrian Paul and you didn't. Get fucked, nigga.

I was invited to a test screening of the second movie, my comment card after read; "Really bad joke, please don't tell it to anyone else."

Sadly I'm nobody so my comment was probably tossed in the bin.

I guess when he started acting somebody said "don't quit your day job" and he took it to heart...
Of all the random things to have a celebrity encounter over too... Why couldn't it have been something I was really into? If I got a phone call from the Undertaker I would have absolutely lost my fucking shit!
