To be clear, I am supporting this, and several ways have been mentioned of doing it with zero risk anyway.

@Null, since the processing cap seems to come and go, you might want to change the banner. A flat statement that "we have hit the payment processor's daily volume limit" might be too discouraging. If someone puts donating out of mind for a whole day, they might not come back. Suggest something like, "We are seeing intermittent 'merchant daily transaction amount exceeded' errors and working with our processor to resolve the issue. If you get this error, try again in a few hours."

Edit: But maybe I don't understand the error. If the transaction is not denied but merely delayed, I don't want someone to try again every few hours and make duplicate donations.
