So, are you guys familiar with Lizard Squad?

If not, they're a group of unconscionable script-kiddies who are responsible for systemic DDoS attacks against various server networks and platforms, and have been active since mid 2012. In the past, they've temporarily offlined Steam, Origin, PSN, and Xbox Live, and rather infamously knocked out Twitch - but they only hit true notoriety in early August of this year, when they managed to divert the flight of Sony Online Entertainment's head, John Smedley, with a bomb threat. This, paired with a series of tweets proclaiming sympathy with ISIS, succeeded in managing to get about half their number party vanned by the FBI.

Well, they're back at it
, and they're once again patting themselves on the back about it on Twitter. They managed to offline Xbox LIVE and several other games' servers, including Destiny, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and more. Because of how catastrophically offlined Xbox LIVE was, people couldn't even browse or use Netflix. LIVE is already back up, and PSN is expected to be back up to speed in a few hours.

That said, I really don't get how these fuckers have been repeatedly allowed to operate on Facebook and Twitter. Their pages have been wiped out multiple times, and each time they have, they have a new one go up that somehow manages to persist for months whilst masutrbating furiously about it.

Your thoughts?

Is that why XBL suddenly went to shit? I was tearing my network apart trying to find out what went wrong, then again to figure out what went right.

DR. MEME IS AT IT AGAIN

Can we get Brianna Wu and the Twitter cadre to bitch about Lizard Squad? I'm hoping the sadness in both camps will somehow cancel each other out.

And anyway, that would explain why LIVE was being shit for me earlier. I was about to get pissed off since I've had to reformat my 360 a couple of times over the years and it's always a joy to do that...

All this does is waste everyone's time.

It's not really amusing in a funny way, and doesn't really let them gain in any direct way. It's like kicking a store display at a Walmart and laughing as an employee has to pick it back up.

LizardSquad has shown themselves to be very... low tech and weenish, but I find it very interesting that this most recent attack has happened right at the same time a TON of unreleased Sony pictures were leaked to file sharing sites.

Now, I know what they WANT - for people to conflate some DDoSing of vidya services to what is an incredibly high profile heist. In the public eye, DDoSing the FBI is the same as hacking the government, so one hacker is the same as the next. No articles I've been reading have been making that connection even if they reference previous attacks, and some of the less reputable sites are insinuating North Korea did it, but...

I know this was a Cyber Monday attack and all, but as a closet conspiracy theorist it makes me wonder if they'll try to claim credit for that too.

Seems kind of ween.

Personally I feel like this is one of the weenest things you can do. At least if you DDoS Scientology or something political, then you can argue you've achieved something. What's the point in closing Xbox Live for a few hours? Is Jack Thompson behind this?

I only heard about these guys a few days ago when my BF was sperging over Xbox Live. Personally, I think they are just claiming responsibility for something they didn't do.
