‘Log off! Log off!’ teacher orders students when sexual assault livestreamed during first grader’s remote learning class

An 18-year-old man out on bond for a gun case was held without bail after he livestreamed himself during a sexual act with a 7-year-old first grader on break from her Chicago Public Schools remote learning class on Thursday prosecutors said.

Catrell A. Walls, of the West Chesterfield neighborhood on the South Side, was arrested Thursday afternoon shortly after 3:30 p.m., after he was seen molesting the girl , police said.

Walls, charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under 13 years old, appeared for a bond hearing Saturday afternoon before Judge Charles Beach.

Police were made aware of the attack when the girl’s teacher saw it on a computer screen during a Google classroom e-learning session.

Walls showed complete disregard of children and a “wanton callousness for human life,” Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Andreana Turano told Beach.

In addition to Thursday afternoon’s incident, which alarmed multiple students who viewed it and were heard asking, “What’s going on, what’s happening?” the victim told authorities Walls has a history of sexually assaulting her, for the last year, Turano said.

The victim initially said Walls “just hit her” and said it was a “secret,” Turano told Beach.

"The victim disclosed ‘he made me put my lips on (him) and this has happened before, and I don’t want my daddy to know, it’s a secret,'’' Turano said, quoting the victim.

This was broadcast in the daytime on a website accessible to many young students, while the girl was on a break from the class during a time when her teacher asked the students to turn off their cameras and mute themselves.

The 7-year-old muted herself but did not turn off the camera. When the teacher saw them performing oral sex, she repeatedly ordered all the students to log off and then called out the victim’s name and told her to turn off the camera.

“She saw the defendant close the computer,” Turano said.

The teacher called the police, the school principal and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Officers went to the victim’s location, and Walls was arrested after she identified him.

While being taken into custody, Walls began crying and said, “I don’t know why,” said Turano, adding he also said, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

Walls is a senior in high school and plans on finishing, said his lawyer. He works 40 hours a week, sometimes six days a week, in construction; has “extensive family ties,” including several siblings and other relatives; and is not a flight risk.

Walls has no history of sexual crimes, or violent crimes, his attorney said, adding Walls has been diagnosed with a disorder that impairs his ability to control his impulses and concentration, said the lawyer, calling it “somewhat of a disability.”

Beach, before ordering no bail for Walls, said he had several reasons he made that decision, the first being Walls was “currently on bail for a felony offense.”

Additionally, the crime was “broadcast on video … multiple people saw it, including the teacher,” Beach said.

The judge also noted that the victim’s outcry was “immediate” to the principal of her school and others, and Walls made an “admission,” said the judge.

During an unrelated news conference on Friday, Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson called the situation “disturbing.”

Jackson said the district in recent years has increased supports for students who experience sexual assault or harm, and teachers or counselors are often the first to identify an issue a student is facing.

“We provide a lot of basic needs for our students, and safety is one of them,” Jackson said.

“DCFS has already reported a dramatic decrease in the number of cases reported. ... We know these things have not stopped occurring, but what has happened is there are fewer watchful eyes looking at students, connecting with students to make sure that they’re safe.”

Walls was arrested late one recent evening with a loaded Glock handgun, Turano said, and he was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a pending case that is up for arraignment Nov. 30th.

Walls will be back in court on the sexual assault case Oct. 19.

The kids saw something for sure.

my only concern with this is the numerous other people stating in this very thread "Kids that young don't even know what's going on" or "it's almost like seeing someone get molested is shocking and traumatizing"

yeah almost like a bunch of other 7 year olds may not make good witnesses or want to talk about it.

As much as I agree with the idea of recording that shit for evidence as its happening, somehow I suspect that would end with the cops charging the person with recording and/or possession of kiddie porn or something to that effect when they handed it over. I mean would anybody be surprised if they did

7 year olds (the boys at the very least) know what a wiener is. And they could attest to the fact that a wiener entered the little girl's mouth. Them not wanting to talk about it? That's a legitimate concern. You have a point there. But I would imagine investigators are trained to deal with that sort of situation or have people on hand that are.

To be fair being a nigger is quite the disability.

Yes I would.

If the teacher was already recording the class (which is possible), and therefore the event was recorded, nobody is going to try her for child porn. This was immediately reported to the authorities, so it's not like she just ignored this happened and kept whatever footage she may have gotten. Contrary to current rhetoric our law enforcement isn't inherently evil and they're not going to put forth the time, effort, and trouble into charging this teacher with child porn.

I probably would have started recording as I called the cops.

I get why you want "evidence", but doing that would make you guilty of producing child pornography. Best to just call the police and hope they get there in time. Teacher had already seen enough to be an eye witness and sign a statement.

No need to get yourself wrapped up in criminal charges, too.

I don't know if this is state or federal law and I'm too lazy to look it up. But here in Cali a physical consent form is required for recording of audio (but not video). All classrooms have cameras, but they don't record sound because if even one student declines to sign the consent form that means they can't record audio in the class at all and they can't make signing the form a requirement. I imagine the same applies to zoom calls or whatever. So while they could record video without issue, unless zoom or whatever they were using has an option to record just video without sound the district is kinda fucked. The CP angle is dumb though.

Pedophiles lie to kids and tell them they’ll get in trouble or threaten harm to their family if found out. Of course we as adults know that’s not true. The question remains of why he was left alone with this child.
I’m horrified that this happened, but thankful that teacher took immediate action and called police. I can see why she told her to cut the livestream, as this was being broadcast to other children. I mean, what do you do in this situation? It’s all gross and the teacher was probably in shock. Good for everyone involved getting this creep behind bars.

And the gorillas are probably going to start demanding that the teacher be fired for calling the police and "placing his life in danger" while calling her a racist.

"impulse control issues",

That's just being a nigger, though.

But I would imagine investigators are trained to deal with that sort of situation or have people on hand that are.

they are very trained to deal with that, there are people who's *entire* job is to pretend to be a molested child and mimic their behavior so investigators can practice on them.

even with that in mind, I want to make clear I'm not attacking the teacher for her actions or anything. When it comes to people molesting kids I just want there to be no room for error in catching them. Which I guess is an unreasonable expectation, but can you blame me?

NGL, my first impulse would be to tell the other children to turn off their cameras, they DON'T need to see that. And I would record the crime if I wasn't already doing that, the more evidence the better. This festering boil on the ass of humanity has likely molested other children before, he was lucky enough to be caught this time.

I don't think you're blaming the teacher. And I get the sentiment. Everyone wants a smoking gun when it comes to a heinous crime. But that's just wishful thinking. Crime requires investigation, and this is actually a case where there is more solid evidence than most.

would it? because there seems to be serious contention about that in this thread. Because if I see a child getting fucked and my best option is to just "hope" it gets taken care of. not really good enough for me.

I'm not sure how lenient the law is, but I'd imagine recording the incident, even as evidence for police, might risk one getting walloped with recording/possessing child pornography. I understand the good intentions, but there might not be any moral gray area with the laws. EDIT: I'd posit only glowies are probably able to get away with it. Really makes you think...

Ideally I hope I'm never in the situation to be making that decision. I don't think the teacher telling everyone to log off first is wrong. Just witnessing sexual abuse can cause lasting psychological trauma as well. These are also seven year old kids who don't know any better about what the hell is going on.

If you were just recording it in this situation and handed it over to the police, they wouldn't bother you as you were clearly not looking for it, it sort of landed on you and you did your best to record and provide the police with evidence. They are pretty decent with that type of thing if its proven you were acting in the interests of helping someone rather than being a fucking pervert.

But the pedo is black, so he will likely get off on some historic, genetic racism charge.

I just saw this and stopped reading after the dindu nuffin shilling of the lawyer.

If the little girl didn't want her daddy to know it's either cuz he's doing it too or she knows he'll kill him.

It's 2020 so it's a toss up which one it actually is. If it's the latter, I hope he kills him.

Or the parent is a POS who is the "Uuuunnngggh, don't make me do stuff!" parent.

Honey Boo Boo's mom took up with some chomo who raped Pumpkin and allegedly mama June deadass said "How could you do this to ME?"
You guys gettin' that? "How could you do this to ME?"
Not: Kicking the guy's ass, not committing murder or reenacting Hostel on the fucker, just... "How could you do this to ME?"
And that kind of reaction is WAY more common than you think.

I worked in my local public school district teaching High School Social Studies. All school personnel are mandated reporters and are required to get and update DCFS mandatory reporter training.

I feel like most courts would throw a charge out like that even if the prosecutor was dumb enough to go forward with it. Intent does actually matter under the law, and in this kind of situation it would be clear that the teacher was not intending to view child pornography, rather they were documenting a crime that had occurred within the space of their awareness.

I hear it's not uncommon for hoes to get mad/jealous over daughters who get molested by their (step)dad, as in you little slut you asked for it/why are you doing this am I not attractive?

Sick shit.

I agree. I think the only reason she didn’t try to document it was because the event happened quickly I’d imagine. It’s easy to say that now in hindsight but realistically the teacher couldn’t have predicted this.
It begs the question of if all of these zoom classes should be recorded and documented.
This is fairly new after all; protocol is still being set. I know online schooling isn’t new, but online schooling on such a large scale. Could documenting these classes help more kids in horrific home situations get out?
