My question about moe is why all the stormniggers love it so much. K-On is not about the glory of the white race it’s about a middle school band. Nichijou is not about exterminating Jews, it’s about a silly gang of friends. The only one to escape this fate was Azumanga
I've thought about why anime always seems adjacent to mental illness and I think it boils down to two things.
1) Anime as a medium is hypersexual.
2) Anime is friendly to autistics.
The medium is sexual to its core regardless of what people want to admit. This is an extension of Japanese culture, which treats both sex and youth differently than the West, both as individual concepts and as a unified one. This manifests in scripts where there is more raunchy content than puritanical western designs. Women are drawn sexier, with flawless bodies, and with bright colors accentuating eyes and hair to make them more exciting to the viewer. There is also an interesting fascination that the Japanese have with making protagonists women, especially teen girls. This is very different from the West where the protagonist is designed to be relatable to the viewer. If I had a Ph.D in psychology I would explore why the Japanese choose to make so stories about middle school and highschool aged girls.
I am probably at least somewhat face blind. As an adult I've noticed I do not have the ability to compare two pictures of the same person wearing different clothes and hair styles and make a concrete determination if they're the same person, especially if I am unfamiliar with them. This is a very common trait of autism. Anime solves this problem for autistics by having elaborate outfits and unique hair and eye combinations. Below is a hair style I cropped out of a very popular show. I bet
a lot of who routinely watch anime, despite the huge volume of what they've seen, can still identify this character from the hair alone.
There's also a meme about how dubs are better than subs in Anime. In normal media, it is basically unthinkable to try and sell a movie or a tv show to a general audience without dubbing it. Big countries like Germany and France have huge voice actor industries where the most famous celebrities even get their own dedicated localization doppelganger so that their voice is consistent across different shows. This is not the case in Anime. Nobody watches dubbed shows.
IMO the reason for this is that when an English speaker hears Japanese written dialog in English it is absolutely horrifically cringe. It only works as text where the confines of your head make it sound better. Hearing a real human speak aloud in your own language what the Japanese write is a painful experience. The distance of the alien Japanese language is comforting.
Anime is written very direct. There is little subtext left up to the imagination. Characters clearly communicate how they are feeling and what they are thinking. I could not finish Death Note because Light basically speaks aloud his plans even when it's very obvious what he's doing, and that frustrates me. This is a frustration I've had with other shows. I watched the Madoka movie with someone and the ending builds up to this very sad sacrifice, which ultimately resolves itself with a Space-God-Cat explaining (for about 15 minutes) that the laws have physics have changed because the sacrifice was so big, and that means everything goes back to being normal and the sacrifice wasn't even a real sacrifice. This is autistic friendly writing.
I'm not saying anime is autistic to be flippant or offensive. It is important to my point about extremism. Both extreme left and extreme right are adjacent to anime on the Internet. This is because autistic people are more susceptible to being groomed. If you are looking for someone to groom, you would have better access to autistic people in anime circles. If you happened to be a white supremacist extremist or a transgender pedophile, you will find autistic and lonely teenagers on anime-adjacent discords. Show them lolicon and say that their loyal white virgin gf is only possible if we get rid of the niggers. Show them futa and say they'd be a beautiful sexy dickgirl woman too if they took HRT. Surround the lonely autistic person with people love bombing them and porn bombing them.
That's just my take. I think there is something about anime that filters people. When I turned 18 I had no direction in life so I decided I was going to learn Japanese and go to Japan to teach English as a new years resolution on the NY a few weeks after my birthday. I seriously dedicated myself to watching Japanese shows, learning the language, and learning about the country. I hated the shows, I hated the language, and the more I learned about Japan the less I liked it. So despite deliberately trying to get interested I could not do it, despite watching a pretty wide variety of stuff. Even as a kid, my best friend LOVED Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon. I gave all of them a shot and religiously watched DBZ so we could talk about it, and all I remember about DBZ is how fucking slow it was. There is a filter built into the medium and it sorts people by some sort of criteria. I won't say it's "autism" or "pedophilia" because I am for certain my best friend as a little kid was not autistic or a pedophile. He was Filipino though.
