Community Lolitas - 1000% more backstabbing than you'd expect.

Just a heads up, /cgl/ loves to bait. I'm 90% sure that the person who started the current ita thread on /cgl/ started it with a muslim loli because they knew it would get them replies. Other popular targets are girls who are even the slightest bit overweight and people who have a lot of piercings.

The term "ita" is usually connected with the Japanese word "itai" which means that something is painful. Itas are painful to look at, and their outfits are unsalvageable.

Here's an outfit, or coord, on the less painful end of the spectrum.

The issue here is that literally nothing matches. Lolita is extremely matchy matchy and you would usually would work with the colors that are in your main piece, the skirt in this case, with maybe one other outside color. For some reason, she is wearing maroon, black, and dark purple which make little sense with a print that should be sweet.

Here is another step up the spectrum. I don't know what this girl's story is, but I'm willing to be that this is her first coord ever and she's super excited about it.

This style with the wide sleeves is called wa-lolita, and it is pretty much universally associated with weebs, itas and newbies. The red x black color combo and stringy purple hair don't help. But like I said, she's probably new, so let's find a target more worthy of our criticism.

I don't think I need to point out what's wrong here.

This style of dress is usually known as a lace monster.

Also, the reasons why people don't like brolitas vary, but the fact that there have been instances of male fetishists dressing up as lolitas and creeping the girls out, which has influenced opinion on them.
Here's an old getoffegl post about Brolita Jenny, who liked to post online about his feminization fetish.

Getoffegl is the now abandoned chronicler of mainly livejournal based lolita drama. If you're curious about the kind of shit that normally goes on, here's part of an old yearly roundup. It's mostly about scammers and incompetent mods.

So what I'm getting from this thread is that a bunch of rich bitches are:

1.) Getting mad that normal girls are able to look better than them at their stupid hobby, so they harass them.

2.) There are LGBT people who look better than them at their stupid hobby, so they harass them.

3.) There are clearly unprofessional teenagers posting themselves posing in "lolita' gear and are getting harassed because they look stupid in it.

4.) There are people who are dressing like this for genuine fun and are getting harassed because girls are cruel to each other.

What a great community.

I'm not really sure how LGBT people got brought up here. Most brolitas aren't trans so that's not the issue. There are a bunch of lesbian lolitas, in fact a couple of girls recently had a lolita wedding. Maybe someone who already has a vendetta would take potshots at someone for being gay but no one would accept that or think it's okay.

I used to enjoy Lolita style fashions. Sometimes it's just fun to dress up in a ridiculous outfit that I made myself and hang out with people. I would go to various cons dressed up , and even forced my boyfriend at the time join in... but the lolita fandom itself is horrendous.
Think of all the worst stereotypes of fashion culture, the backbiting, stealth insults, brand loyalties, etc, and pump them up to 11, then add a healthy dose of mean girl attitude and unwarranted self importance, and you have the Lolita fandom in a nutshell. And god help you if you dare to wear something from a thrift store...

So yeah, you can't just wear a fun frilly dress in this fandom, you have to be an uppity jerk about it too. This whole fandom is toxic.

Like others, I thought that lolita was just a thing to wear elaborate and pretty dress. I didn't know just how big the drama was. It's a shame that freedom of expression includes drama a lot.

Also, I recently read somewhere that most into the lolita thing don't do it to cater to male attention (aside from anyone they're romantically involved with, I'd assume).

It's more like dressing up like a pretty asexual doll for other loli's. There was a huge ruckus when the Japanese mags started incorporating lingerie and fetishism.

Right, that's another thing. I think a lot of it, at least in the West, has to do with reclaiming an idyllic childhood that never existed. You'll see a lot of loli groups prohibit their members from doing drugs, drinking alcohol, or having sex. And these are all girls in their twenties.

Okay seriously? No, this doesn't happen. Can we stop spreading misinformation? Your 16 year old weeaboo friend who wears cat ears with her hot topic "jay ess kay" isn't an expert on lolita fashion. Yeesh.

I heard there are lolita groups that only allow 30+ year old women who have intact hymens. Everyone else is a normie or failed normie and banned.

I'm just going off personal experience, which I'll admit is a pretty narrow selection of the population. But it's always the most extremist elements of any group that attract the most notoriety.

Bless you for making this thread :')

The shaming Muslim women thing really bothers me. Why can't they, shouldn't they, be allowed to dress up in pretty dresses too? People are weird.

I actually have some context on the muslim lolita girl in the OP. That girl (Ellejay) is rather infamous in the lolita fandom in Chigago and 4chan's /cgl/ for being an attention whore and making every conversation "me-me-me".

Muslim lolitas are a new thing, and quickly gained traction on Twitter with japanese lolitas praising it that Ellejay, thinking being a disabled, mentally ill lolita wasn't enough, changed her religion to being muslim for attention on the internet. She's hit the Lolita-tumblr oppression jackpot.
