What is Looksmaxing?
Born from the cesspit of incel forums, looksmaxing is self improvement taken to the extreme. Whether it's working out, DIY cosmetic surgery, or taking meth, looksmaxers will do anything to improve their looks.Looksmaxing has roots in old Incel forums, specifically PUAHate, Sluthate, and Lookism. A favorite pastime of incels is rating the attractiveness of people. After many years, this process was refined into an autistic science of what gay losers on the internet found attractive. It was only a matter of time before some intrepid young men took to using this knowledge to try and improve their looks in the most misguided ways possible.
Glossarymaxing
Before we get into the craziness, we have to learn how to speak like a looksmaxer. Here is a list of common phrases and concepts.Ascending - Ascending is making it to the next tier in your looksmaxing journey. Looksmaxers often say, "Such and such procedure ascended me." This means that the procedure made them look better. The inverse of this is Descending.
Mog/Mogging - Mogging means outclassing someone in terms of look. The end goal of looksmaxing is being able to mog anyone (be the prettiest boy in the room[NOT GAY]). Comes from the manosphere term AMOG, an acronym for "Alpha male of the group"
jfl - Acronym of "just fucking lol". Basically their version of lmao
Caging - Anytime you see the word "caging", you can just replace it with the word "laughing". It comes from their tendency to use gifs of Nicholas Cage laughing.
Softmax - A softmax is any non-invasive procedure that can be used to enhance your looks. Examples are working out, manicuring your nails, haircuts, etc.
Hardmax - A hardmax is an invasive procedure done to enhance your looks. These include plastic surgery, implants, and drugs.
Halo - This refers to the halo effect, the tendency for positive impressions of a person in one area to positively influence one's opinion or feelings of a person in another area. For instance, if you have a nice car, people are (theoretically) more likely to like you despite you smelling bad. Looksmaxers generally try to maximize these in an attempt to make up for their shitty personalities.
PSL Scale - Named after the three original incel forums, the PSL scale is a rating system that looksmaxers use to quantify someone's attractiveness. The scale is as follows:
- Subhuman - Very ugly
- LTN - Stands for "Low Tier Normal". Someone that is below average in terms of looks
- MTN - Stands for "Mid Tier Normal". Your average joe in terms of looks.
- HTN - Stands for "High Tier Normal". Someone that is above average in terms of looks.
- Chadlite - Model-level attractiveness. This tier used to be called "Brad", but it seems the term has been deprecated
- Chad - The highest level of attractiveness one can achieve
The Redpill - The redpill is a reference to the concept of the same name from The Matrix. It's used as a metaphor for learning the truth about something. With the redpill comes the implication of working to overcome these hard truths.
The Bluepill - The opposite of the redpill. If you are "bluepilled", you are ignorant to the truth of things.
The Blackpill - The blackpill is a nihilistic version of the redpill. Instead of working to improve yourself, you do nothing because there is nothing you can do.
GTFIH - Usually used on forum thread titles. Stands for "Get the fuck in here".
Jester - Basically a looksmaxing tryhard, describes someone whose efforts are cringe or embarrassing.
Looksmaxing also encourages the making of your own terms as well, with a few basic suffixes.
-fuel - Used when something makes you want to do something. For instance, if something made you suicidal, you would say, "This is suifuel/ropefuel."
-maxing - Used often jokingly to refer to an activity as reaching a goal. For instance, if you have a cheat day, you are "fatmaxing". A common use is "ropemaxing", which means suicide.
-cel - You can use this to basically describe any trait of a person. For example, if someone goes to the gym a lot, you could call them a gymcel.
Common Looksmaxing Practices
Mewing
Mewing is a sort of jaw exercise meant to emphasize the cheekbones. It was named after John Mew and his son Michael. Here's Michael explaining how to do it:Mewing
It should be noted that Mike was struck from the UK dental record in 2024 after causing a seizure-like episode in one of his six year old patients. Does mewing work? The science says probably not.
Bonesmashing
Bonesmashing is based on Wolff's Law, which states that a bone will adapt to the load it is placed under. If you increase the load, the bone will restructure itself (ie increase thickness) to compensate for the increased stress. The most common application that you might have heard of is astronauts losing bone density due to the lack of gravity. In terms of looksmaxing, this means smashing your face with a hammer or other heavy object to cause desirable bone growth in your face.PDO Thread Lifts
Poly-Di-Oxanone (PDO) threads are dissolvable threads used for cosmetic procedures known as thread lifts. Thread lifts are a non-surgical procedure. The way it works is that the thread is inserted, and the skin is pulled into place. The thread then triggers the body's collagen production, tightening the skin (Source). The most common procedures are:- Fox eye lifts: lifting the corners of the eyebrows towards the temples
- Eyebrow thread lifts: lifting sagging eyebrows
- Neck thread lifts: tightening sagging neck skin
Without medical supervision, they have taken to using PDO threads in other places as well, such as their dick.

Buccal Fat Removal
Your buccal pads are the pads of fat in your cheek. Looksmaxers seek to remove or reduce these for a leaner face. There are two ways to remove buccal fat. The first is removing the pads through surgery. The second is dissolving the fat.Socialmaxing
Since most looksmaxers are cripplingly autistic, they need all the assistance they can get in the social department. The goal for a looksmaxer is to be "low inhib", having low inhibition. Coloring
Coloring is the art of not looking like a pasty sick Victorian child. In other terms, coloring refers to your skin tone. Looksmaxers use Melanotan to minimize the amount of time they have to spend outside. Melanotan is a group of experimental peptides (Melanotan-1 and Melanotan-2) that boost melatonin production in the skin. Anything to stay inside glued to incel forums.Surgerymaxxing
Looksmaxers often turn to cosmetic surgery to achieve the results they desire. This category can be split into three categories: bone restructuring, implants, and soft tissue. I'll be picking a few standouts from their surgery guide to highlight here.These surgeries are ones where the bone is fractured, and then moved into a different position and allowed to heal. There are a few common ones talked about by looksmaxers
- Limb Lengthening surgery - The legs are broken at the shin. The bones are then forced apart by metal rods. The bones will then heal like this, adding a few inches to your height.
- Lefort Osteotomies - Named after Lefort fractures, these surgeries are based around restructuring your jaw.
- Lefort 1 - A surgery in which the upper jaw is fractured and repositioned
- Lefort 2 - A surgery in which the middle of the face is fractured and repositioned
- Lefort 3 - A surgery that moves the entire midface forward
- Lefort 1 - A surgery in which the upper jaw is fractured and repositioned
Surgeries where implants are inserted into the face to enhance certain bone structures.
- Cheekbone implants - Implants that emphasize your cheeks
- Jaw implants - Implants that widen the jawline
- Infraorbital implants - Implants that go around your lower eye sockets
- Chin implants - Implants that define the chin
- Canthoplasty - Reshapes the canthal tendon on the outer corners of your eyes
- Blepharoplasty - Removal of fat, skin, and muscle from under the eyelids
- Penile fat grafting - Fat is removed from the body and injected into the penis, to increase girth/length.
Pubertymaxxing
Pubertymaxxing is the process of taking hormones to optimize your growth during puberty. The timing is critical, if you don't take these drugs during puberty, you will never reach your true potential. For most of you, this should ring an alarm bell. These arguments are very similar to the arguments that trans people use to justify pushing puberty blockers onto kids. Here is their guide on how to pubertymax.
