I think we're looking at this the wrong way. The best way to say that you're not insecure is by saying it's someone else (women, society) has high standards you must meet. Thus, if I am not skinny handsome enough, I will never get a job and be mogged by all other men who all look better than me (except the ones I deem FAT).

I think a lot of these men are just terrified of always being passed up by others and rationalize it in the most extreme way possible. Let me put it this way:
