Love Death and Robots - Animated anthology series from David Fincher and Tim Miller (Deadpool)

Season 2 was a step down overall, doesn't have highs of season one but also want to say it doesn't have the lows of season one as well. Biggest issue was it being only 8 episodes and too many of them went for a more realistic look. Do wonder with covid if they split up season 2, as season 3 is due for 2022, and odd for netflix to renew it before seeing how how season 2 did.

The only best part of Season 2 is this:

I'm assmad when the robot shaved the dog

Nice to know this is another show I can just skip over because Season 2 completely fails to deliver on the intrigue and interest of Season 1. Why are there so many of these lately? The Boys did the same fucking thing.

After a pretty terrible and short S2, I'm surprised Netflix decided to continue the series as S3 is now out. This time we get 9 episodes and if you've seen the first season, you can pretty much accurately guess the contents of S3. You get the usual mix of cell shaded and 2D CG, the hyper realistic military shorts, random English fantasy short with Lovecraftianesque monster, and the comedy shorts using cartooney stylized CG. The only thing that stood out is probably the last episode, which is basically like a mix of the game Zeno Clash in terms of janky camera movement, weird modern dance routines with a bejeweled female river kappa and lot of ragdoll physics. It makes no sense and feels like a film school project.

That weird siren one was just plain bad.

That last episode, which people are loving on twitter, was mostly bad.
Sometimes it looked good, looked like they were actual people but then you get scenes like when he's going down the hill and it looks like it's been ripped straight out of a video game. As if the money run out and that was the best they could do.

Night of the mini dead was my favourite one.

I do wish I had watched the final episode first, having it be the last one was a letdown after the previous ones. Definitely better overall than season 2 was, of which I only liked two episodes (the 'santa' one being the best of the lot).
My favourites of season 3 were Night of the Mini Dead, Kill Team Kill, Mason's Rats and In Vaulted Halls Entombed.
Least favorites were The Very Pulse of the Machine and Jibaro.
It was nice getting another episode of the three robots again, but there were others from season one which I would have preferred to see get sequels, such as Sonnie's Edge, Good Hunting, or Shape-Shifters (which all had worlds I would like to see more of, not necessarily with the same characters).

I forgot about this because of season 2 being so bad. At least most of the episodes of season 3 were better than season 2 as a whole.

I liked Mason's Rats, the Mini dead one, the one with the crab and the Vaulted halls one, I kinda liked the Jibaro one simply because the main guy reminded me of an old friend from High School

Season 2 and season 3 should have been released as one season and it would have been more forgivable: weaker than season 1 overall but at least it would give the season more variety. Also, Torrin is based, best protagonist of the shorts.

Also, without netflix. Anyone know how to watch each season with every short edited together?

Love death and robots is proof giving animators more budget won't always result in a better end result. 80% of the episodes rely on fancy visuals to trick people into liking them when their story is rushed and incomplete at best and beyond dogshit at worst.

Most the series feels like a tech demo reel for animators to point out they worked on because the writing sure as fuck is tech demo tier.

Another problem is that the episodes have a 10 minute runtime and half of them waste the 5 minutes with busywork that barely counts as setup (or alternatively 5 minutes with pointless action) resulting in attrociously slow pace where the first half puts you to sleep and the second half (if its not another 5 minutes of pointless action) has to cram a 10 minute story in 5 minutes.

Tall grass is the worst culpript of this. 5 minutes of setup, 5 minutes of pointless action, 1 minute of exposition.

This series has the most extreme variance in quality I have ever seen in any series EVER, with some episodes being straight up unwatchable and some being peak fiction.

Kino episodes that are unironically good fiction by any standard:

Pop squad (bonus points, this one pissed off a lot of reddit antinatalists), witness, beyond aquilla rift, drowned giant, bad travelling, zina blue, ice (last one is a bit undercooked tho).

They're the only episodes with an actual beggining, middle and end that tell a complete story without being riddled with plotholes, shit pacing or just being boring.

Night of the mini dead and All through the house are hillarious for what they are and also good. Night of the mini dead is ice age but good.

Special mention: Swarm. Go read the original short story. The retarded coomers in charge of this episode cut out multiple crucial parts of exposition to insert pointless sex scenes so the episode by itself makes no sence unless you've read the original ending, which is actually good.

Everything else is boring, lazy, rushed, bland, generic, pretentious, badly writen or just botched. I need to make 2 special mentions. Sonny's edge and good hunting that a lot of people praise.

People praise sonny's edge because of the twist at the end without realizing that as soon as you spend more than 1 second thinking about it it makes no sense. Sonny has the technology to just swap bodies to whichever one she wants yet choses to spend 99% of her time confined to a cramped tube unable to move and 1% risking her life? Why? There's no reason for it. She's not FORCED to stay in the kharnivore out of nessecity, she just wants to because she's an idiot.

Also, in the original story the short is based on she wasn't raped, that was a lie she made up to cover up her drunk driving. Netflix just had her be raped because men are evil rapists and women can do no wrong.

The other one people praise is good hunting, which is a pretty intresting story about technology vs magic, and progress vs tradition which is alright until the fox lady turns into a fucking steamepunk terminator vigilante hunting down englishmen in fucking top hats and monocles raping chinese women in alleyways, in this case its white men are evil rapists.

I can elaborate on why any episode is shit, but since the series is more bad than good I couldn't be fucked to write 30 reviews on why every single episode is dogshit, I will do so upon request tho because I have so much to say.

Also, Jibaro is the most pretentious piece of shit ever.

My problem is the animation, good portion of them feel like video game cut scenes. That was most of season 2.

That one is based off a scifi short story by Alistair Reynolds, so makes sense why it has a proper story arc.
Afaik all (or at least the overwhelming vast majority) of them are based on short stories.

The only originals are witness, jibaro (one of the best and one of the worst episodes made by the same guy, hillarious), blindspot and maybe night of the mini dead.

It has nothing to do with with the source material, the directors and writers adapting them were just incompetent hacks.

As I mentioned, in the original sonny's edge there was no rape, sonny just lied to cover up drunk driving and netflix just made her a raped tragic brooding captain marvel knockoff, rending the whole point of her "edge" pointless, if the lie was real, then you can't give her 2 fucking edges. "The rape didn't matter. Still happened tho." if it didn't matter why did you change it to have happened dipshit?

In Zina Blue, the scientist was a white man, netflix turned him into a sheboon, this isn't story breaking, but it is another reason to hate netflix.

Swarm originally was a lot more intresting, but because the coomers making it HAD to shoehorn in a sex scene they cut out multiple crucial parts of exposition that literally make or break the story. In the original story the swarm makes it clear that after it breeds the hive superhumans to fight off the regular humans coming to attack it it will more or less leave them to their own devices and they will become parasites on their own, and the scientist claims that he will teach them and they will rebel, with the hive going "yeah right lol", that was the "challenge" issued, human spirit vs hive indifference, with the hive going "we dont even have to break the humans, they'll break on their own". The hive even appears benevolent. "We have existed for trillions of years, humans a few hundred thousand at best, when humanity goes extinct in a couple thousand more by its own hand, the humans we breed will be the sole preserved survivors of the entire species and they will stay by their own will", which the short doesn't make clear because they didn't have enough time to make it clear because they had to put in the fucking sex scene at the expense of cutting the ending in half.

Snow in the desert is also an intresting story that wastes half the episode on pointless fight scenes leaving no room for the characters, if you have 10 minutes to tell a story about the plight of everyone wanting a loner's immortality, don't waste fucking 5 of them on fight scenes. Also, the woman was lonely? Really? Are there no other fucking cyborgs in the entire galaxy? If being a cyborg gives you immortality and invincibility, why do they care about snow?

Also, good hunting has a bunch of changes from the original like making the chinaman Jimmy neutron tier genious when in the original he was mid at best. I haven't read it though and don't plan to because its writen by an immigrant taiwanese man aimed at americans (i.e retard pandering), instead of an actual chinese story.

From season 1 I think i liked Suits the most, i'm just a sucker for this Starcraft-esque, American countryside in space type aesthetic - simple story with beginning and end, bit of drama to get you invested, wouldn't be surprised if this was someone's Starcraft fanfic. I would gladly watch a miniseries in this setting.

I would agree that Season 2 was way weaker, compared to season 1, but i did liked Ice and Pop Squad.
