I think there's another step for Lucas before actually finding dates - getting a job. I don't think any woman of sound mind would respond to a near-40-year-old and goes "Hey, baby, wanna get some budget alcoholic drinks? But not today, let's wait until they deposit my tard bucks for next month."

Lucas said it himself. The government does everything for him. At his age, he was assigned a "payee" to make sure his rent is paid. He couldn't even fill out the college and financial aid forms on his own. He needed help. He's unstable and it's very unlikely he'd be able to hold on to a job.

The ability to think yoursef quite a catch because of your stunning personality alone, while demanding physical perfection in a mate, is not limited to any one gender. I think women are more prone to settling because they don’t want to be alone and men are more prone to settling because they’re desperate for sex. But there are entitled idiots everywhere, searching for a mate who puts a ton of work into his or her looks, while dismissing doing anything about their OWN looks because “I should be enough as I am, I’m worth it, if you don’t want me how I am now then you don’t deserve me.”

People with few/zero experience in relationships tend (imho) to be more focused on attractiveness in their potential partners. If you´ve never been in a loving relationship its hard to look for character attributes in people I guess, because you never experienced the importance of it (Kinda hard to explain).
