devout christians generally aren't manipulated by poor bible arguments - especially ones that somehow conflate "say uplifting things even in hard times to those around you" with "gossip". his "atheism" shows how poorly he understands the written words and it's obvious he's spent zero time analyzing it.

a much more popular passage against using the bible to win arguments is the new testament's Acts 10, where Peter bascially says that the old stuff is historical and the new stuff is the expectation, and trying to use rhetoric instead of keeping faith with the spirit of the word is itself a blasphemy - the bible isn't there to win arguments, it's there to spread the good word among the faithful and be a reference guide.

they aren't very devout, imho, if the words of a prophet or priest exceeds both their personal conviction in the book, or their personal relationship with the Lord. people who replace their faith in God with faith in some man aren't particularly adherent to the faith imho. such manipulation speaks more on the charisma and maniuplation abilities of the man rather than the arguments presented by rhetoric.

also i really wonder what lucas means by "full blush face" because that's a rather specific (and repeated) turn of phrase. i assume he's trying to invoke or describe some kind of "blushing shyness" thing? most people i know with excessive blushing are drunk, very cold, very hot, have a skin condition, or suffering from an OD. there are some other circumstances that i know he isn't privvy to as well, but are more rare.

Never forget that incidental details and throw away events in the lives of others, are defining highlights in Lucas's.

Even more than Lacie, I believe Lucas's legendary encounter with the 16 year old Starbucks barista was rooted in this dynamic. The girl offered Lucas the same customer service any Starbucks patron receives: a moment's attention, a polite smile, a bit of professional friendliness. Lucas, thirsty and feeling the unfamiliar warmth of female attention, interpreted this as sexual interest and left her the infamous love quest note.

It seems like his hatred of religion might go beyond just because he thinks Atheism is good to pick up chicks with, but because he views the church attracting young women to it by use of words with jealousy. The god damn church just keeps plucking young wombs away from him so he had to hate it. Beyond his current environment influencing him, this could be a sign that he is becoming far more desperate. Since he thinks getting zoomer woomber will magically cure his life, a direct attack attempt on a woman might come sooner rather than later.
