Exactly. Both people with disabilities and older folks can, and do have happy, loving relationships - just don't be a misogynistic creep, and your chances are already good.

Lucas and Rusty use their "plight" as a means of guilting people into liking them despite their horrible personalities, and to also justify their awful behaviour.
