If he's pursuing genetics then he'll have to take some variation of Cell & Molecular, which is usually the weed-out class for Bio majors.
Depending on the college/state rules, there is a good chance he would have to get through Organic Chemistry as well; quite possibly Epigenetics, and of course basic Genetics itself isn't exactly a walk in the park.

Unfortunately this. Even freshmen year Bio classes were a total face-slap to those who coasted through highschool with good grades on minimal effort.

Is there a way he could be on the hook for financial aid if he just immediately fails, because he will? Something like staying in classes long enough to be beyond withdrawing, and then failing to appear because the class is "full of classist ageist misinformation" or some gay shit like that. I hope the Wern Owes The Government Money saga is coming up soon

In order to receive the full amount of Pell Grant, fed sub loan and fed unsub load, an undergrad student must be enrolled in 12 credit hours (generally 4 classes). At the BARE minimum a student may be eligible to receive half the anticipated amount of Pell and loans if they are enrolled in 6 hours (2 classes.. so if he was eligible for $2000 he would only get $1000)

Now this is all assuming he doesnt have any holds from his previous term and a GPA of at least 2.0. If he has holds/low GPA he would then have to submit a "satisfactory academic progress" form which is a federal document that only flags on a student account generally after they have been reviewed for aid (this typically wont happen until weeks into the semester) this basically means, the Wern may think he was awarded aid, but still have to submit said form. If he fails to do so within a certain deadline, hes aid is removed for the current and upcoming semesters, and he would have to get into good academic standing on his own dollar for at least two semesters before hes eligible for aid again.

I'm happily waiting for the REEEEEing we will get if my prediction is correct.

At the very least, he will not get the full amount if he is only taking 2 classes - either he will straight up only get half, or he will be awarded the entire amount but have to pay back half of it. Also if he withdraws early, he has to pay it back.

This is also a greatly favorable outcome. He very well may be awarded the entire amount, only to have half of it removed and him owing the school a substantial amount. We all know hes going to blow through whatever money was giving to him and this will leave him with a hold not just with SCC, but flag him for any other universities he tries to apply for.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention, is that once you are awarded a Bachelors you no longer qualify for a Pell grant (or after 12 terms/6 full years, so he better take more than 1 or 2 courses a semester). How's he gonna pay for that master's and doctorate?

ETA He better watch it too, because if he gets convicted of a sexual offense then he's no longer qualified to receive Pell.
