It's been noted earlier that Luna's school had/has an awful digital art program. It wouldn't be out of the realm of plausibility that Luna traced to pass the course given earlier examples of her heavily referencing. However, that's just a theory. Her traditional art is also fairly decent, but if it's the same quality now would be shocking.

Everything about her art is just painful.

That's pretty much exactly how I read it.
